The extension scares me.
Extensions are normal, but annoucing one so early and so long (instead of the usual incremenal 15 minute extensions announced 2 minutes after the servers should have been back up) means something went very wrong, very quickly.
Possibly they changed the clock and the database choked. Now they are working hard to try and find a way not to rollback.
Or we could be optimistic and assume the development team just delivered the news that they have fixed some bugs, like say Captain Latanica, and a quick decision was made to include these fixes in the Maintenance. The extra hours are for testing the new bug fixes before unleashing them on us.
