What would you do if the earth was about to end?
Posted by: whybanme - 2008-07-15, 12:13 AM - Forum: The Speakeasy - Replies (73)

Say you knew life on earth was about to cease as we know it, how would you spend your last hours?

I'd probably be trying to hide from the crazy people, but my friend (girl) and I already talked this over and said we would have sex before we died.

Pre-Med Thread: American Medical Schools, BCPM, and the MCAT
Posted by: Schrodinger - 2008-07-15, 12:04 AM - Forum: The Speakeasy - Replies (3)

The Pre-Medicine Thread: For Our Prospective Doctors

Introduction

Border Wrote:I just created this thread because I'm currently going through my undergraduate studies as a pre-med Biology major with two other majors in Public Policy and Psychology. There are a lot of complexities within the American medical system that many people do not think about when they decide to tell their friends and families that they are thinking about becoming a doctor. I created this thread to hopefully cover the basics. This thread will be updated around once a week when I have free time. So it's definitely worth it to take a peak every so often. Since I am a human being I am likely to be wrong on lots of issues and will probably not see the whole picture. Feel free to correct me if you find an error. As a human being, I learn through my mistakes. On a final note, the reason this only covers American medical schools is because other countries run their medical establishments very differently. As an American, I have a personal bias for which I apologize.

BCPM and Overall GPA
Border Wrote:In college, you will receive your overall GPA. Do not be deceived. When you apply to medical school, they will take into consideration two different GPAs. There is (1) your overall GPA as mentioned before and (2) your BCPM GPA. Your BCPM stands for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math. BCPM is also known as the "science GPA." This means that many courses in political science, humanities, and the arts will not count towards your "science GPA" but will count towards your overall GPA.

Commonly Asked Questions Wrote:Q: "Which is more important to maintain? My Overall GPA or my Science GPA? Can I still apply to medical school if one is lower than the other?"

A: "Most medical schools value Science GPA slightly higher than Overall GPA since you could have taken a lot of easy introductory courses in order to boost up your Overall GPA. In general, you should never try to sacrifice one for the other. Try to do your best for both your Science GPA and Overall GPA. If you do extremely poorly in Science GPA/Overall GPA but did extremely well in Overall GPA/Science GPA it doesn't matter. Medical colleges are looking for excellence in both your Science GPA and your Overall GPA."

Q: "What is considered the minimum Science GPA / Overall GPA to get into Medical School?"

A: "This depends on a variety of other factors such as whether or not you may have done volunteer work at a hospital, shadowed a doctor [which is not the same as volunteering at a hospital], participated in research, received journal publications in Public Health magazines ect. Generally, the average of all Medical Applicants that applied in 2007 had an overall Science GPA of a 3.6 (A-) and an overall GPA of a 3.7+(A and above)."

Some people have been saying things on some of my threads, though indirectly, but it was said, that all I do in my sigs and whatnot is brush, and slap on a render. True, that is what you've seen. But I'm capable of making a signature with the render blending in, rather than just being pasted onto a background I made for it.

Not as decent as I wanted it to turn out, but yeah, it shows that I don't NEED to use brushes o-o. Note, this sig was made without the use of ANY brushes, except some Splatter Brushes to add some effect (If you can see them).

Rate, tell me what crappy parts I should fix, C&C please.

Hey Everyone ^_^

This thread is meant to be a collection of general & common questions and answers.

Depending on how it goes, I might choose to archive some good questions & answers here, on the first post. Remember, the prime purpose is to let the members of the forum ask & answer questions.

Please maintain a level of maturity, and not ask pointless questions. Any questions regarding anything are welcome, as long as they do not break any site rules. As well, keep in mind the audience you are writing to, and be advised that for more intelligent disucssion, a separate forum exists.

Ask away Smile

At level 118, I'm beginning to use Silver Hawk more but finding that it is almost as disruptive as it is helpful. I've been at Red Kents trying to find myself a White Nisrock and when mobbing Kents on one side or the other, the Hawk will normally wait and if something spawns behind me, will attack it and keep me safe until I can thoroughly fill the mob with steel point objects and strafe away at the stunned target.

However, it doesn't always work out as planned. Sometimes it won't attack the target behind me and wail on those in front of me that are dealing with puppet. Is there a science to it that I'm not aware of?
