Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
I think this video by MasteringGaming / Masterobert sums up the Masteria's Legacy Set perfectly:
For context, people were skeptical about the Masteria revamp until Anna (the current producer, who replaced SavageAce) said that it contains "powerful equipment". Upon the patch date, people were able to dig up the new accessory set, learning that it contains a cumulative set bonus of:
Spoiler
All Stats: +50, Weapon ATT/Magic ATT: +50, MaxHP/MaxMP: +1000, MaxHP/MaxMP: +5%, Ignore Defense: +40%, Boss Damage: +40%, Critical Damage: +10%
Recently, Nexon edited the v210 update notes to include Phantom Forest / MesoGears details, They featured the updated stats as follows:
Spoiler
All Stats: +50, Weapon ATT/Magic ATT: +50, MaxHP/MaxMP: +1000, MaxHP/MaxMP: +5%, Ignore Defense: +15%, Boss Damage: +20%, Critical Rate: +5%
They also listed it in a way that made people think that each additional set effect stacked upon the previous, when it reality it was a cumulative set effect.
Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
On the one hand, it was obvious to anyone who's been watching GMS for the past few years, that Nexon would not let us have a better set than Gollux. Not when the Gollux set, itself, is already a thorn in KMS's side, as it makes GMS players completely ignore the items KMS players work for (like Dominator Pendant, that they keep pushing into our Relay boxes as if it's a coveted prize).
On the other hand, it just makes all the work on this revamp even more of a waste of resources.
I had expected that their way of getting around the "power creep" of it would be making the cusp of the set - the time-limited Totem - very rare. I was imagining it being something like Dojo Gloves or Oz Emblem. But I guess a rare reward from a rare boss works too. Trouble is, since they nerfed the set effect, even min-maxers aren't going to bother trying to obtain it.
People might still play this content for a bit, to get the ring and maybe some anvil-fodder or throwing stars from the shop. But the area as a whole is not going to be any more active than it was before.

Swear whoever came up with the revamp needs to be sent through a few tables. Preferably actual physical tables, though would also be fine with a spreadsheet showing how badly they screwed the pooch on the GMS player base in terms of user data as well. Pity some of the current staff seem to be flipping the bird to the GMS player base as a whole.
Just sick and tired of the "Blockbuster" format that has been used to death to this point where it's no longer even worth the read.
Thought the whole thing felt like a lazy mess showing up. Right now it feels like the aliens in Masteria again with a terrible idea that should have been binned instead of being brought forth. I suppose it's coming from doing the content as a higher level player as well as running with one at level. Not a fan of Corine's recolour to blue or the fact that the entire race is/was an entire bloomin' blue man group. If I wanted to see lots of azure folk, I'd watch Star Trek with the Andorian people. Also have to deal with more bloody tropical aesthetics in a game where we've got more than enough tropical locales.
I agree man, Block busters after Black Heaven seems to be a bit more annoying, nexon doesn't like the idea of coding enterely new stuff for new content so they usually reuse content.
Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
After playing again for the first time in 6~7 years, the biggest lost opportunity is Party Quests and Expeditions, or the lack of the two. Those are what made the game enjoyable back in the day, but now it's more grinding, capping event coins or doing dailies
Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
So I compiled a list of issues I have with the Phantom Forest, excluding the story changes:
Everything Wrong With the Phantom Forest
- Dailies and Quests
There are 6 daily quests given a day to earn coins: 3 normal monsters, 2 elite monsters, and 1 elite boss (or field boss, whichever you prefer). This means you have to hunt a few specific elite monsters and one specific elite boss, the latter being far worse. For reference, there are 3 elite bosses that can spawn, and it's completely random. You get a total of 9 Raven Ninja Coins and 8 Shadowknight Coins per day. The Raven Ninja Coins can be used to purchase collector's items, as well as Ginger Ales (10 for 3 coins, which is a ridiculous price). Ginger Ales are also no longer sold by Miki in NLC. It's really saying something when even MapleSEA, a version that outright removed NLC after not updating it since Big Bang, actually moved Miki and her Ginger Ales to Henesys Market (despite it being more expensive there).
One of the quests for the Level 190 questline actually requires you to have one of each class to complete it (Warrior, Magician, etc), which is a one-time deal, and a bigger hassle for players in low-population servers than it needs to be.
- Sanity
As you travel through maps in the Phantom Forest / Crimsonwood and kill mobs, you start to lose your sanity. The sanity will create additional visual effects on screen, causing lag, memory leakage, and screen shaking / flashing (which is horrible for people with motion sickness, epilepsy, or are prone to seizures). These effects, ESPECIALLY the memory leakage, become unbearable when an Elite Boss spawns. At some point you will barely be able to survive because you will start to see phantoms that attack and cast potion lock on you. You can only restore your sanity up to 3 times a day, meaning that if you run out of sanity while trying to find that last elite boss, you're not completing it for that day.
- Equipment
Before the patch hit, our director advertised the set as "powerful equipment", and given Nexon's track record a majority of us were skeptical. When the patch hit, we were able to see the stats of the equipment set via the Pet Item Ignore tables (since it wasn't accessible in-game for about a month as it was postponed), and players calculated that it would be Best-in-Slot, so some people got their hopes up in regards to a new set replacing Gollux. However, the equipment set was nerfed when it was released, replacing the critical damage with critical rate while reducing the IED and Boss Damage. The equipment requires 100 Shadowknight Coins and 500m mesos each. The scrolls can be purchased from Mo's coin shop for 10/20 Raven Ninja Coins OR 400m/200m mesos. However, we also learned that to Star Force these items, you need both mesos AND Shadowknight Coins, in increments of 5 (0->1 = 5 coins, 1->2 = 10 coins, all the way to 125 coins for 24->25). Keep in mind that the success rates are unchanged compared to normal Star Force. As Astrum in the Maple Discord calculated, and I quote:
"On the model where you take advantage of 5/10/15 events you would also spend 7,356 hours grinding in Phantom Forest, assuming you spend two hours doing dailies each day. Which is actually a lowball based on how long it's currently taking people... Keep in mind that's on top of the time-gating which spreads those hours out over 10 years."
In conclusion, the Phantom Forest is in an incredible state of disarray. Not only has Nexon went out of their way to make it not viable to train at or do dailies, but I have little hope that Nexon will address any of these concerns.

Classic Nexon hijinx. Adding game play elements that come with a hint of (self torture?) extra difficulty. Reminds me of the good ol' days when Jump quests were still being made more often. Or perhaps like playing a game of hot potato!

Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
So I've decided to upload the new Masteria questline, section by section (excluding the blockbuster). I'll also be uploading the original Masteria questline later on (what I could salvage anyway). I'll post these in the OP as well. Never mind it's 3 videos per post, I'll just link them here
Part 1: Masteria Introduction
Part 3: NLC

Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
Here are parts 4 and 5 of the revamped Masteria. I'll be uploading the OG Masteria tomorrow, as well as what I could salvage of the NPC dialogue.
Part 4: Phantom Forest / Crimsonwood
Part 5: MesoGears / Masteria Conclusion
For those of you who haven't played in a while and don't know who the Afinas Knights are, they were introduced in the Monad blockbluster, which hints at all the main non-KMS storylines being tied together (namely Sengoku, Jett, PULSAR, and Masteria, especially the Masteria Through Time blockbuster). Here's the ending cutscene for Monad:
Re: Masteria Revamp 2019 - The Dead Horse Beatening
God that Narcian resurrection was so...underwhelming. Feels like they wanted to just quickly get this all over with and move onto their new shiny toy which will probably be something with Afinas. The thing is..I actually kind of liked Monad
