You unlock the V Matrix when you advance to 5th job. There are three types of cores.
- Skill Core - You receive new skills when you equip it. These are the "V Cores" or also known as 5th job skills.
- Enhance Core - You can upgrade your existing skills from previous advancement when you equip it.
- Special Core - You receive new abilities if you meet the required conditions for it. Only one kind can be equipped in your matrix and it is only available for a fixed duration. These cores have a purple background.
These cores can be obtained from the
Core Gemstones.
These gemstones can be obtained through different contents and the battlefield as in monster hunting.
Each gemstone contains one core of any type. The core you receive is determined by RNG, so it may take a while to get the one you want!
You can also find
Core Gemstone Piece items, 5 of which can be crafted into a Core Gemstone, available after your 5th job advancement.
Finally, there is the
V Skill Core Gemstone which allows you to obtain a V skill for your class. There is currently no information on where this item can be obtained.
Back to the V Matrix. You can open it through the Skill Window by clicking on the V tab.
Your V Matrix starts with 11 empty slots. There are also 7 locked slots, but there is currently no info on the method used to unlock them.
It is also apparent that you can have more than 18 slots in total as there are arrows indicating
"slot pages".
In your V Matrix, you can see different tabs for "Show All", "Skill Core", "Enhance Core" and "Special Core" for easier browsing.
You can even enter a name in the search box to search a specific core. On the right side of the matrix you can see information on what cores you have equipped and their descriptions along with how many V Core pieces you have.
I previously mentioned that you can recieve cores by opening the Core Gemstones that are obtained through the battlefield and other game content. However, that's not all! You can upgrade your cores which I will explain further below.
The enhance skills from the
Enhance Cores have a maximum level of 100. The skill they grant boosts the
final damage by 3% per level: 3% at level 1 and 300% at level 100.
V Cores, which grant entirely new skills from the
Skill Cores have a maximum level of 50.
Special Cores have a maximum level of 1. The skills they grant have a variety of effects.
As previously mentioned, you can upgrade your cores by combining them with cores of the same type. This can be done at the
V Core Master NPC in the first area of continent of Arcane River.
After talking to the NPC and selecting the upgrade/craft V Core option, your V Matrix will appear on screen.
I have a lot of cores in my matrix since Core Gemstones are given free for testing purposes. From the image above you can see that I have duplicate cores of the Rolling Curve (Rolling Cross in GMS) skill of Zero.
Since this skill is from a previous advancement, this means that I can enhance it.
If you right-click a core, you will see an option to enhance it. When you select the option, a new window will appear where you can see your duplicates of that core. Combine the secondary core into the primary core and the primary core will gain some EXP. This process is time consuming since the cores you acquire from gemstones are determined by RNG. The
V Update trailer from the private showcase mentioned "choose, combine and enhance" during the V Matrix Segment, and there is room left for one more option below the enhance option seen in the image above. This is probably where the combine option will go; it will presumably be used to get rid of the clutter and cores that are unusable for your class.
I have used enough duplicate cores for my Zero skill and enhanced it to Lv2. You can see in the tooltip that it says it increases your final damage of that specific skill by 6%. You can do this for both the Skill Cores and Enhance Cores. The Special Cores have a maximum level of 1.
To conclude my post, there is a possibility that we will see new V skills in the near future. The V Matrix is a system that will involve a time investment to get and enhance the cores you want to their fullest potential.
Bonus:
Decent skills can be obtained from Core Gemstones.
