Dear Lord. Help.
@MariaColette; They were in the maze earlier AND pineappleING USED DIG. Guh ._. They're back to where they were now though...
this is what happens when you claim pineappleing eevee
Instead of sticking around on the Red stream I decided to play around on "Piapwns" Pokémon Gold stream. We spent about three hours headbutting trees to grind Eevee to Lv30 so it could learn Bite. Luckily there were only about 180 people at most, with the usual viewer count sitting around 110, so it was relatively easy to get things done.
There's a live update over at the subreddit now

Our lord and savior Helix Fossil is back!
And a new mythos and fandom are born...
How does the twitch chat control the game? Is it seriously one person trying to keep up with all the input spam or is there some program that essentially reads the inputs and tries to input them as fast as the game can handle them? Also, this is just hilarious to watch. Imagine how many Kappas per minute an audience of 57k+ could achieve.
It'll be the new Let's Play, calling it now. Twitch plays Super Mario Bros would be such a trainwreck.
Twitch chat is available via IRC (or was). Various tools exist on the web that allow you to grab the chat. They then take the chat and run it through a script that strips everything but "up down left right start select". The chat is then read as commands for the game via a different script probably and displayed on the screen via another tool of some sort.
Basically, no there isnt a monkey hammering away on a keyboard that moves the character. It's all done by the chat.
It's in the FAQ on the stream page.
What is this?
TwitchPlaysPokemon is a social experiment, it is a stream of the Gameboy version of Pokemon Red (151 romhack) running on an emulator. An IRC bot translates buttons said in chat into keypresses (simulated in software, no fancy typist robots).
Ah, so this confirms my second guess. I wonder who was the genius person that came up with this idea.
My bad. I don't Twitch enough to know the very bottom of the stream can contain more information. I don't scroll down at all if I can watch the stream.
**Also, my god this current part of the game:
Team Rocket security.
I just saw this today. Was away from home for a few days and wow. I weep for humanity.
You weep for humanity because ~50,000 people are trying to coordinate and play a game, where there's bound to be some people wanting to troll and purposely spam unhelpful commands for laughs and giggles? It's like trying to coordinate a sports stadium to tell one person where to move or what to draw. That's hardly something to weep about.
The parody stream "RNG Plays Pokemon" actually had to restart the game from the beginning, because it released Charizard and the game was stuck with a level 7 Magikarp. Here's hoping something similar never comes across this game.
