...I don't see what all the fuss is about, really.

It's not like they're extending it to blogs or anything.

If this happens, any Singaporean Anonymous member will get hauled via the ISA, and then Anonymous will no longer be forced to do so.

"Forced" is a very curious word to use. No one is holding a gun to their head and making them impose their beliefs on another.

They are already suing bloggers left and right, this is only giving them more power... This law basically allows them to make news sites take down any article that may not be favourable to the men in white... I can already foresee them abusing this power(its not like they couldnt already have done it without the law anyway). Just look at the state of our print/traditional medias, none of our newspapers actually write anything negative about the government /* (remember that one period of time where ST kept supporting the population white paper, writing articles about it almost everyday vehemently, despite the negative public opinion??) */ ... and I for one, do not want this to extend into new media as well. Even friends of mine who are studying MassComm are openly criticising it because it affects their future career choices.

First its this, in the future, who knows what. Dont trust these men in white, really.

Every government with the ability to do so will attempt to keep the media from publishing articles that will tarnish their reputation; it's nothing new.

It's also old news that the Singaporean government is one of the strictest ones when it comes to this stuff. Well, outside of dictatorships and "communist states", anyway.

Yeah but times have changed, I want absolutely no internet censorship(regarding local news anyway, porn.. whatever)... i dont care if they are strict or not, the voting demographic is changing and so should they.

Not knowing anything about this particular case, I'll leave this here:

I support many of the things Anon does but really the group is full of ideological contradictions. Probably simply because anyone with any ideology can join "anonymous" and claim w/e they're against is what anon is against. And that whole "anyone can join us" thing maybe really is what makes the group hard to take seriously, and the flamboyant "We are a legion." thing is childish if anything. It's like 'Anonymous' is really just a dumb trademark for hackers to use.

Heck, even their symbol makes no sense. Anonymous has repeatedly done attacks against the corruption in Catholic church but Guy Fawkes himself was a Roman Catholic terrorist trying to assasinate the Protestant king of England. One could mistake Anon as a radical Catholic terrorist group. Oh the irony...

  11. Default Re: YouTube video by "Anonymous" hacker group threatens to attack Singapore

    Wasn't it "We are legion"?

I do agree that that's a major problem; anyone could just make Anonymous a scapegoat. "I know! I'll go bring down Microsoft's systems for pomegranates and giggles! I'll blame it on Anonymous and no one would be the wiser!"

  12. Default Re: YouTube video by "Anonymous" hacker group threatens to attack Singapore

Yeah, it's pretty childish considering they're essentially a group of kids that saw V for Vendetta and decided to start a "club". It's the same type of pomegranate as when you're a kid and watch a movie or cartoon then you and your buddies pretend to be like them. It's the dumbest pomegranate ever and they should never be taken seriously regardless of what they can or cannot do.

Gotta admit their latest hackings was pretty freaking hilarious. This was what happened to our istana's website. Istana is basically a malay version of a castle so its essentially our white house.

Jiak Liao Bee apparently means Useless, in reference to our president who has no political power other than the country's reserves.

Note: this was just an injection so no one really hacked into their servers.

Seems to be some bored Singaporean kid trying to spread mass panic by claiming to be part of the Anonymous collective.

Anonymous doesn't do THAT. I've only ever seen them use images of a Guy Fawkes mask.

I'm 100% sure the forum that I hail from is a safe haven for these Anonymous members hiding around. Knowing the kinds of people that I've met on that certain forum, I wouldn't play this off as nonsense just yet and assume it's just some script kiddies having some fun.

Either my internet has gone bonkers, or my ISP has fully blocked Southperry.net, because the URL says something like failed URL and redirects me to some root ISP search page. I suspect it is because of this... discussion... I'm indirectly accessing this page btw.

edit: SP working now. Must have been [idk what] on the ISP side.
