I had to cheat to get the sorceress hat, but I did so after beating the game.

I found it easier to kill the Octopus King first.

Make sure you have your basic spellbook, an upgraded glove (I preferred pink over red in most situations, but red does add a lot of damage), and items from the Monkey Wizard and Octopus King (upgraded monkey staff and octopus crown with jaspers).

It's easier without the boots of introspection.

If you keep running forward and then teleporting back to the entrance you can stack them up that way. If you miss the chest, just teleport back and jump back up.
