Default What can Nexon do to prevent hacks or make the game less vulnerable to exploitation?

I'd like to know what you think Nexon should do to clean it up, or rather, stop the bleeding.

Is the game too client-sided? Why does Nexon seem to continuously put items/events into the game which can easily be exploited by hackers? Is 'hackshield' or w/e it's called, too weak? What would be better? Is the code not secure enough? Is data mismanaged? If so, why? Does Nexon do a good job of banning? What is the root of the entire hacking problem? What is the first thing Nexon should do to significantly curb the problem of hacking in their game(s)?

"It's too late now." Fair enough haha. So if you think the situation is too far-gone to be significantly improved, what do you think Nexon should've done in 2009 or 2010 before it got as terrible as it has?

The game is 10 years old and determines too many things clientside.

Maple Story 2 is the only answer.

They know what they need to do.
They have decided it's not cost-effective, and would rather put out the fires one by one.

Completely agree. But I don't think it has turned out cost-effective or whatever horsepomegranate excuses they blurt out. What do you think they should do or should've done?

give each spawned item a randomIzed unique identifier

when an item is interacted with, it performs a check to see if that unique identifier is in existence in any other instance.

    if so, delete both items.

duplicated items would have the exact data of the original.

log event coins. if someone has spent more coins than they could possibly have dependant on quest completion and event spawns from hot times and boxes, ban user.

To put it less delicately, we all know what the problem is, the solutions are not cheap, but are staring in the face obvious. There's nothing else to discuss on subjects like these because the only way they can fix it is a large investment. They don't make the "guaranteed" gross to feel comfortable doing that as of now.

It's at a point where it's very obvious that there needs to be a complete code overhaul, which is completely out of the question. It costs too much money, time, man-power, and effort for something like that.

The only thing we can hope for is that MS2, if it ever comes, will be coded more appropriately. We can hope that's why its taking them so long. The more hacks people come out with for MS1 is more crap they can look into preventing in the base code for MS2.

Absolutely nothing. There's nothing they can do, really aside deal with things case-by-case. So long as it exists, someone will hack it. And with Maplestory having the hacking community that it does, the game is always going to come under seige. They'll always find a way.

keeps things from getting boring, stir the dramapot
