It's permanent. It's part of the class' quest/growth line.

You have to accept the quest at 60 or 70 to rescue the princess. Not exactly sure which ones you need before that, I don't think you need the Athena quests but i'm not sure. I think as long as you do up to the part in Orbis Park with the pixies you should be able to unlock it.
