My second thought (from the Engineer in me): This a rather elegant solution that bypasses 3 incredibly difficult problems.
Pretty cool article. Sending people past Mars is a pretty ambitious job, but I am curious to see how they solve some of these problems. Interesting times ahead

I just wonder, if they are only gonna orbit around mars and turn back, how is this any different than sending a satelite? It's extremely risky if anything, seems no different than that RedBull guy jumping from the edges of our atmosphere.
Also I don't get why they put dealing with feces as such an incredible obstacle to deal with? In the scenario they don't need them for anything , can't they just dump them into the nothingness?
