Valentine's Day is nearly here, and the best way to celebrate it is to have your pixelated avatar pretend to marry someone else's pixelated avatar. MapleStory allows you to do just that, and the game has thus far had around 28,000 couples tie the knot in-game. It's also seen 15,000 of those couples subsequently divorce, which seems like a staggering number when you realize that the game does not offer any systems to model the crumbling of your emotional bonds and the slow desertion of your childhood dreams.

As it turns out, the staff at Nexon keeps track of a lot of interesting little tidbits about the marriage system. The longest marriage in the game is at 1,100 days; the shortest one clocks in at just three seconds. The average isn't too bad at 518 days, but couples that both married and divorced in 2012 wound up with an average run of 107 days. And some poor soul is already on marriage number 13, which implies Larry King-like devotions to remarriage. 13 weddings. That is impressive to many ways. I want to see the medal for 11 marriages though I have a feeling it'll be hard to find someone who has it.

1100 days can't be the longest. Last I checked I was still married in game, and our ceremony was in like 2008, so way over the roughly 3 years that 1100 constitutes.

...well, that being said the "last time I checked" was like a year ago, but still I'd imagine there are couples together longer than us.

I've been married to the same character since sometime in 2007. While I am not sure of exactly when in 2007 counting 2008/9/10/11/12 would put my marriage at 1825+ not counting the time in 2007 or 2013.


I could be very close to hitting the 2000 day mark.

Last I checked the patch that introduced Amoria was in December 2006, so yes it's been much longer than 3 years.

The pixelated characters aren't pretending, though.
Inasmuch as they can be said to exist at all, in their own world, they are truly getting married, with all the rights and obligations that state incurs.

Lol? I've been married since 2009...and will continue to be married to the same person.
I blew up my ring some time ago...
and wouldn't divorce him anyways.

It was a completely mutual thing (and he's gay lol), and we each paid for half.
He's still a good friend, so yeah. No need to divorce.
