As the day draws to a close, opinions clash. Some of you demand action, picking out scapegoats to direct your fear and anger at. Others demand patience, arguing for peace and reason. Some voices argue emphatically and loudly, others make their opinions known with their silence.
At some point, however, the chaos reaches its peak and you find yourselves pushing Chilly into the center of a human circle with a noose hanging limp around his neck. You hoist him onto a crude structure erected in haste and secure the other end of his noose to a beam at the top. It is only after the support is removed and he hangs limp that any feelings of remorse begin to sink in.
There is no expected "cleansing of the soul" nor confession. A search of his personal effects showed nothing linking him to Fiel's murder, and the ensuing search of his home reveals him to be what you feared most: an honest, ordinary man. You return to your homes as the daylight retreats, sick with horror at what you have done.
