ever since I got hacked like 2 years ago I'm super paranoid, even when I'm NOT playing
I really had to stop leaving my laptop on at night
this was one of my previous passwords
since symbols are "derp derp NO" now I had to settle for mostly keysmashing
brb changing again because I haven't done it in a few days :c...
Oh my gosh lol that is hilarious. It's like a little parasite latching onto your account and doing illegal stuff, you find it and squash the issue. Congratulations on being able to do this before it was too late.
the same happened to me... except they hacked a level 70 acc... I reset it all to find I got 7 free levels and 6m... on the other hand my favorite noob clothing is gone... D:
I wonder how they got my info... anyway, probably scanning my computers with all I can.
Ironically, being someone who hasn't change his game password for ages, I never got hack.
My password ain't complicated either, it's that kind of password you can just take a look on it and remember it instantly.
Of course I'm not that stupid to reuse my password anywhere else.
Haha I saw your thread on Basil about it. Loving how everyone automatically assumed "You got keylogged." That wasn't the case for me but I did use that password on other Maple fansites.
I have heard that the meso farmer websites like to hack into other website databases like fan sites for their ID's and password, and then they try it for Maple to see if it matches.
Ha, some asshat litterally hijacked my connection. He ddos'd my modem and caused my internet to crash then hitched onto my connection on my character. Some basil mod tried to explain that was impossible, then got silenced for saying that he was wrong. I know this was the method because
A) The character was hijacked, not the account. Nothing else on my account was touched besides my mains equipment. (I had like 15b-20b left over when everything was said and done)
B) I was so shell shocked I didn't even bother changing the password for 48 hours, no other entries were made.
C)I wasn't given a notice when a new IP was accessing my account, or that my current Ip wasn't the same as the other.
Ridiculous.
Gotta love the different ways of which you can come up with passwords. Take mine, for example. Wasn't derived from words or numbers... They were taken from finger pattern/ keystrokes from playing a piece on piano. To specify further, a favourite phrase of mine in that piece.
How many more innovative ways can be derived via lateral thinking, I wonder...
O/T: I'm still waiting for your Snail Legends...
Chances are the hacker got the account because of the database leaks they had in the past. Passwords like that are actually safer than most "safe" passwords are, and you can actually remember them. The passwords that are like Locked's are the only ones that are significantly more safe than that, and running down the keyboard twice like this isn't any less safe than that either though.

If you're that worried, just lock your account whenever you aren't playing.
Some people's uses ridiculously long password for MS. MS was released in 2005 and the password hash of the day were MD5, guessing from how proactive Nexon is, MD5 is 90% certain still in use by Nexon today.
For those that thinks the longer the password the better is wrong! You have to consider the hash function's "resolution" to not to exceed it.
MD5 is 128 bits hash function (but its some what flaw), when passwords consist of upper, lower letters, numbers and symbols (total of 95 different values) at around ~19.48 chars you will max out the 128 bit, any longer will cause your password to end up with the same hash (collision) as another password (could possibly be weaker).
Putting this here since relevant to account theft. This was retyped from a thread concerning Nexons latest assistant GM program 'Maple Advisory Council':
http://maplestory.nexon.net/Communit...2-1%26nxid%3D6
New: Account Security - All Council accounts will have a second line of defense for security when logging into their Nexon accounts. If the connection does not match an allowed area, it will not allow the account to be accessed or altered. If this program works well, it will be added to Nexon's system for all players and improved upon.
