Disney buys Lucasfilm and plans Star Wars VII, VIII and IX (2015~2017)

I could be OK with them retconning some of it as long as they keep some of the good parts. The Sun Crusher would make a great plot line for instance. The Jedi Academy founding seems a natural progression for the story and nicely dodges the holiness that is the Thrawn Trilogy. Any rewrites there would have the fans wanting blood, myself included.

It has been a super long time since I read any of the books, but I'm pretty sure I read the Thrawn Trilogy as well. Sun Crusher sounds familiar but I can't remember if it was just mentioned in another book or not.

Oh, and I meant for the Han Solo Trilogy to be sort of a prequel like ep1-3 were.

It was announced yesterday that Disney has bought Lucasfilm and plans on creating an all new Star Wars trilogy with Episode VII hitting theaters in 2015, followed by a new movie every other year.

Once this was announced and we all calmed down a little, the typical fan fare of who would direct the new films, who would star in them, and what they would be about began. Many fans began to speculate that the new series would be an adaptation of Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn Trilogy," a series of novels considered canon by the people at Lucasfilm; however, it doesn't seem that way.

E! Online has learned from a source at Lucasfilm that the new films won't be an adaptation of the books. Their source says "it's an original story."

There's still hope though fellow Star Wars fans, as Disney plans on using all forms of media for their newly acquired purchase. As George Lucas said himself in the press release, "Disney's reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products."

Sources even tell The Hollywood Reporter that one possibility being considered is an Avengers-style movie universe with not only Lucas' planned final trio of films but offshoot movies focusing on individual characters.

I actually liked the newer trilogy. Old trilogy might be a bit better, but I feel like it's still a bit overrated by "retrohipsters". I was shocked about the news at first, but I'll give them a chance. It's not like it's anything away from the older trilogies.

III was the best of the prequels, but I and II just dragged on and on with what seemed to me like weak acting. If Episodes I and II were merged with a time skip and a few scenes cut out, I'd be happy.

I'm Ok with this. Star wars is a vast world of possibilities, but if they want it to succeed they'll have to make it a bit darker than Avengers/marvel movies, because star wars can have funny moments but not as often as those worlds, I don't know what to expect from them now, we can't really go into episode VII without a cliffhanger or base in the previous episodes because without it we would feel like a bit off place, if they are going to finish the Skywalker story, they will have to skip a lot of it or at least only show flashbacks of it, because people still only have one Luke Skywalker on their mind.

Okay now I'm utterly scared. The first E! Online quoted paragraph directly killed any hope of canon being adapted, and the second, with Lucas' quote, essentially said "Disney has the rights to milk this now, and that's the main reason I sold it to them."

Through from a complicated legal standpoint I understand not using the canon, as they'd have to involve/credit/royalty pay dozens of authors, but still. TEARS OF SADNESS.
