    I saw that. But was reading about holographic data storage (assuming these 2 operate on different principles), and then I start to worry about read/write speed. 20Mb/s isn't a lot... (but it'd suffice for my usage XD)

    huh, I really thought the next big thing would be the bug protein coated disc storage, or greatly enhanced tape drives (though I heard some experimental tape drives can already hold up to 50TB).

    This is pretty awesome, though, holy crap.

    The problem with biological technology is that those systems are inherently non-durable and only work because they are constantly rebuilt by the cells. Even if those tapes contained the cells/bugs themselves that produce those proteins there's always the issue of resistance to temperature and shortage of substract.
