Thread: The Pride Of Gunslinger!

  1. Default The Pride Of Gunslinger!

I have finally chosen to make gunslinger my main instead of brawler(after like wasting hours of thinking what i need to choose).I am personally enjoying it.
Although i hate when people say to you something like "Gunslinger suck you should have chosen Brawler".

So my question is are you loving your gunslinger or are you regretting choosing it?

PS:How in the world do you post a poll(i know its a noobish question lol)!

I really REALLY like the speed of a GSs personally.
Once I get some mastery things should get even more fun.

Hm. I think slingers are weak at least in first/second job, but after that they are much stronger. In spite of that though, they're amazingly fun and I am enjoying my slinger. Weak =/= sucky. Getting to 3rd job looks like it will take more work than the average class, especially since NLC and Singapore are broken still, but it has been really fun so far

You make a poll by checking the little "Yes, post a poll with this thread" box at the bottom when you're making a thread.

I like my gunslinger, but the low damage irks me slightly. I'm used to low damage though (cleric to 51, bandit to 36, etc.), and I really enjoy the feel of my slinger.

Slingers were massively underrated at first. The initial videos showed Double Shot hitting two-digit damage in late 2x and everyone assumed the class would have great movement, but low damage potential. And Double Shot actually is that weak. It's the weakest 1st job skill. Gunslingers have the lowest 1st job damage output; lower than even Bandits and only improved by the fact that they have range. DS is so weak, that SK-first is actually a valid build for Gunslingers. Double Shot is also the only single-target skill Gunslingers get until third job. Second job offers no improvements to the skill other than Booster. This means that Gunslingers are using the worst 1st job single-target skill as their main form of 1:1 damage until level 70. Invisible Shot outdamages it on 2 targets, making that your go-to skill. You can't train on the single-target 1/2hko mobs that Assassins and archers train on nearly as fast. That hurts. The other ranged classes, in comparison, have very good 1:1 damage. Assassins have the best 1:1 damage in the game in 2nd job. This makes Gunslingers look horrible and useless at low levels.

As the release of Pirates got closer, two things happened.

    1. The Float video was released. This was the first big video that made Gunslingers look fun, and it gave us a much better understanding of what the skills did.
    2. We figured out how the Durability of Battleship worked. Before, it was assumed that Battleship would not hold up at bosses. Rapid Fire is much weaker than typical 4th job skills, and would suck as the main attacking skill at bosses. Now we know that Cannon can be used for at least as much time as a typical Buc can use transform. Calculations factored this better understanding of Cannon in, and showed that Corsairs are actually near top-tier in terms of 1:1 damage output.

Of course, it'll take a while for this information to digest, and the masses of MS will continue to assume that Slingers do no damage, their assumptions reinforced by the weakness of Double Shot. I'm happy with that. This keeps gun prices cheaper than Knuckles, at least until more Corsairs show up in the rankings and people realize how strong they are.

Think of it this way; in first and second job, you are opressed. But when third job rolls around, you've entered the promise land.

Liking it so far, but the low damage is pissing me off. I've never had to grind this long just to get a level. Eh, but it's worth it in the end. Atleast 30-51 will be easy. Yay for cPQ mules.

equips for pirates are still hella cheap in jms, then again I never see other's around but we'll see what happens

i like it but the training is a B**** .... i find it really hard to train in the 40's ... i just made it to 47 and im hoping with the new equipment i have at 50 things will speed up. i hit my first 1k in invisi so im some what happy... at one time i was like you thinking should i make a brawler and leave my gunslinger behind but i decided not to cause the speed of attacking is nice and im really looking forward to 3rd and 4th job knowing that things will be a lot easier there then it is now .

Hmm, I guess I've never really had a problem with low or normal damage. I made a normal-DEX sin, and although I get a lot of insults for that, mainly from my friends/guildies =[, I still enjoy it lots. After I made a gunslinger, I realized it's very similar. My boyfriend made a brawler and he's doing like 2x-3x more damage than I am, which makes me sad sometimes, but MEH! I say. FUN/will not make me want to quit when I need to train > DAMAGE.

Basically, I really enjoy it. I make characters so that they are ENJOYABLE, not to show off my uber damage. I like having fun skills to mess around with - FJ on my NL, dash/recoil and whatever on my gunslinger so far (she's kinda noob xD). Anyways, pride to gunslingers! (:

Gunslingers have an excellent DPS (Damage per second) rate which makes up for their low damage. Who on earth would say "Gunslinger suck you should have chosen Brawler"?
I'm not saying Brawlers are bad but they do have their disadvantages like all classes. If you're capping your dex equal to your level then you're going to miss a LOT even if you maxed Bullet time (My bro has a Brawler and I've used it before in training). Gunslingers on the other hand have the accuracy of a bowman but their damage is somewhat weaker but faster.

However I prefer Gunslinger over Brawler coz I'm more comfortable with ranged classes =P.

i hit level 73 last night and just...wow. i am low-str with good gear, but a 100%-ed, lvl 50 gun since i refuse to rescroll over n over. i am now at level 10 burst fire and im doing average 8k damage. i come from a strictly mage background and to do 8k at level 73?!?! it's just a WOW moment for me. my speed alone helps me to keep up with my hubby who plays a brawler.

this is how our leveling has thus played out. start: lvl 10brawl/10gun; lvl 20brawl/15gun; lvl 30brawl/20gun <--- as u can see in first job, i was slowly falling behind. this was with equal training time and gear. once i hit 2nd job it became 35brawl/30gun; 45brawl/41gun; 60brawl/58gun; 70brawl/70gun

by 3rd job we had caught up and are now same level, with him just a little ahead. but i must say that he spends more time actually training than me. so i wonder if we both sat down and trained the same time/effort, would i ultimately pass him? i'm going to keep track thruout 3rd job. this whole class has been simply amazing to me from start to finish :)

If you go to newties by lvl79 you'll pass him very easy without any doubt (marauders have pretty low % per hour from late 7x - lvl 88, compared to outlaws), unless windraiders beat newties in terms of exp, and he will have like 20% per hour on 1x exp (which I doubt) :o

Well this is talking on 1x exp since kMS doesnt have 2x cards, and neither windraiders.

I'm enjoying my Gunslinger so much. I'm level 75 now, which is a ton of work, but with Burst Fire it makes it soooo much better... Finally seeing some actual damage coming from your gun is great. Invis shot was nice doing about 6k per shot, but it was so slow. And now I can pump out damage pretty well with level 12 Burst fire.

I had to put point in Gaviota, Octopus, etc... Just so I could see them haha. But yeah... 2nd job was a pain, but at least we have really nice accuracy... I was in my 50's at newties joking around with a friend to see if I could hit newties and I could. Fun times... Haha

Well it may be so weak to the point I get pissed off, but I guess I'm used to making weak, yet fun classes; I've got a 102 CB. But I guess the fun and speed of a slinger makes up for that, as well as the fun-looking second job skills and intense 3rd job skills.
