I don't think it is hard to imagine that planes need some sort of runway to take off of. These people aren't stupid and considering Iroh is a General of an army, I feel like he is trained to evaluate situations. As for the device Sato made that was a defense against other planes, I did find that very bizarre. You would've thought that the Equalists would be cocky enough with all their security and power that they wouldn't need a backup system like that to take down a high jacked plane, but whatever.

The thing that was shot out was the same "technology" the Chi blockers use to capture people. If anything, that was intended to be used to disable soldiers. But Sato having designed it knew it was there and used it to take out a plane instead.

Thoughts:

1. Animation is amazing as always. Probably moreso.
2. I kinda felt they started Korra off a little TOO strong. Having all 3 elements, with only air left, which was learned at the season finale? Aang had to struggle throughout ~2-2.5 seasons just to get them all down.
3. Amon's ability to take away bending doesn't feel like an ass pull after thinking about it. Bloodbending probably went as far as affecting areas of the brain. He probably just shut off the "bending" part of the brain
4. I do feel it felt rushed to give Korra restorative bending powers already. I expected at least a season or so in getting her bending back.
5. Not too big a deus ex machina on restoring bending powers. What Amon did, while powerful, was nowhere as earth shatteringly powerful as Spiritbending. It made sense that Amon's victims could be restored. If it was spiritbent away, then good freaking lucking getting your bending back at all.
6. I could just FEEL the shipping all over the place as I watched.
7. Iroh and Mako gets ALL the ladies. Possibly guys too.
8. Tarlok and Amon in the end was so sad. But I guess he didn't want to risk his brother carrying out their father's wishes again.
9. The setting was great. Really loved the steampunk/retro.

Overall thoughts: I really liked it. I do kinda wish they didn't put so much on the table so soon. It only means they will have to raise the ante even higher for next season. I mean, all Korra needs to know now is how to achieve the Avatar state reliably. The biggest threat has already been taken care of, with no foreshadowing on who's the next big villain. Again like I said, Nick really put down a whole lot of chips down for season 1. They will have a lot to do to make season 2 awesome.

Well, as Jamesie pointed out, the entire series was only supposed to be a miniseries, 12 episodes long. It was later that they decided to make it 26, with a 14 episode second season. Instead of rewriting the entire first season, they decided to just leave it the way they had planned and leave it open for the future. That's why points 2, and 4 are the way they are.

I was considering mentioning #3 myself, I've been thinking that for a bit.

Well yea, it was obviously the same technology, but I can't see that being very effective against soldiers. If nobody else except the Equalists has planes, how would shooting that from the back of the plane be effective on ground troops. That's just it, it wouldn't. The fact that it just happened to be there seemed kind of ridiculous to me, but again, I'm not losing sleep over it. There are other things in this series that annoy me more than the backwards-plane-shooting-takedown-thang.

The episode was amazing! I loved everything about it, except the ending. They should of just ended it with Tarlok blowing up the ship. I feel like Korra just got granted abilities out of nowhere. And what about this "Oh I love you! I wuv you too!" garbage. What happened with Asami? Mako just threw her out the window, jeez.

I hope in the next season, Asami gets together with Bolin maybe. They did do a lot together in the end, especially where Bolin saves Asami from her her father. And the ending with Amon and Tarlok.. It was cool, but they killed off the most badass thing EVAR. Kinda sucks. Maybe Amon survives the explosion by making an ice shelter with the surrounding water. Hopefully something, that guy was a bamf.

Also, I like how Yakone changes his whole face, but Amon just uses paint. Cause that could never backfire right.

There is new info about Book Two!

- Book Two will be named Spirit and takes place 6 months after Book One.
- We're finally going to see Aang's daughter Kya. She's a hippie who's into healing.
- Asami takes over Sato's company.
- Korra has an uncle named Ulak.
- Everyone get new costumes.
- Bumi will be introduced in Book Two.
- Korra in SPIRIT WORLD. She will also be fighting a spirit which looks like it will be a massive battle.
- There will be a festival in the Southern Water Tribe where I assume Team Avatar will be headed to.
- There will be ''two very special episodes'' that'll deal with the lineage of the Avatar.
- Mako is now a cop while Bolin is still a Fire Ferret.
- Korra going in Avatar State to win an air scooter race on Air Temple Island.

They showed some concept art and bits of animatic clips too I think. And the audience were voice actors a day haha. At the panel they recorded a few crowd sounds that'll appear in Book Two for a Pro Bender Tournament.

After averaging 3.8 million viewers for Season 1, Book 1, which concluded June 23, the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel is receiving a second-season order of 26 episodes that presumably will be divided into two parts called Books 3 and 4, bringing the total number of episodes to 52.
