And the Khaini channels return!!
Until the users get their grubby little fingers on them.
Does anyone have any good reason why things are the way they are with the servers? Have Nexon bought shoddy hardware, is it a software issue or is it something not of Nexons doing?
I don't think anyone is capable of answering that, even guessingly.
Too many variables? I know nothing about running a games server, I just thought there might be some basic things you'd check if you encountered such a problem at work.
There would be, but they're all on the side we have no visibility to and there's so many we could write a novel.
One would assume they've already checked all the basic things.
If I truly had to hazard a guess, I think it was the renumbering they did. They restacked everything so that more daemons are on less unique IPs.
The two more obvious beginning points from that are that either the boxes aren't specced big enough to handle it or the network cards aren't capable of handling the amount of throughput.
But from there it could continue on to being virtually anything.
Not too much point in speculation, but hey, I'm bored too.
The random channel crashes and/or hangs (when it's green but can't be played in) are probably attributable to software bugs, either triggered at random or "assisted" by dupers.
The Khaini channels staying down puzzles me, because they normally have an automatic restart. Even if not, a human should have noticed they were down by now and manually restarted. On the other hand it doesn't seem like a hardware problem because the computers themselves are up and online (otherwise the latency would be ~20 seconds, not 0.07 as normal).
It could be some kind of data corruption (either in the application or in the OS, possibly disc full or something like that) or hardware problem in some peripheral, which makes the auto-restart of the Maple channel application keep failing. In that case, the fact they are up now is encouraging, because it means whatever it was got fixed.
Anyway, we already know Nexon's coding sucks. We also know their game monitoring is pitiful. Attempting to pinpoint just exactly which is to blame for our current suffering is rather pointless.
It's been almost an hour now. Can't log in.
Weirdest crash ever. Shops are intact and MapleStatus.com fails to show any faults.
