I. Intro
Since there isn’t really a guide on SP yet, here is a guide. Anyone can feel free to post this elsewhere, but please cite this topic.
II. AP Build
Wild Hunters are basically glorified Snipers; therefore, your STR = Level, and the rest goes into DEX.
This guide will not go into blood builds and washing, go elsewhere for that.
III. Weapons and Armor
Wild Hunter skills can ONLY be used with crossbows equipped. All other equips are normal archer equips.
IV. Getting Your Jaguar
After advancing at level 10, you’ll receive a quest to capture a Jaguar using your new Trap skill (in the Citizen tab). Talk to the job instructor’s jaguar to go to a map full of them. Weaken one to less than 50% HP, then use your Trap skill. Congratulations, you just caught your first Jaguar!
MAX Triple Shot
MAX Jaguar Riding
MAX Double Jump
MAX Crossbow Booster
Reasoning:
Triple Shot is your main attack skill for now, so 1 point immediately. 1 Double Jump for fun. Riding maxed first because it gives craploads of bonuses (HP, crit, avoid, speed), then some Booster to increase attack speed. Triple Shot maxed next for power, Double Jump for more mobility, then finish with Booster.
MAX Ricochet
MAX Mastery
MAX Soul Arrow
MAX Final Attack
MAX Jaguar Roar
MAX Swallow
13 Mine
Reasoning:
Ricochet is a very powerful ranged mob skill, so your first point goes here. Mastery is maxed next for some much-needed stability. 2 Soul Arrow can be put here or skipped for utility, then Ricochet is maxed. Level 2 Swallow is gotten to make your Swallow buff’s timer equal to the cooldown and to add utility, then Final Attack is maxed. Either Jaguar Roar or Swallow can come next, with Soul Arrow maxed in between. Mine is left at 8 because it has relatively little use compared to the other 2nd job skills.
Swallow/Jaguar-oshi Mechanics and Buff List
Spoiler
This is only a list of buffs that I have found. There is probably a full list of buffs on SP or EF. The "x" in the buff list depends on your Swallow skill level.
Note: Swallow will NOT work on certain monsters, specifically those that are not in KMS. Therefore, Swallow is useless at Singapore, NLC, and possibly Zipangu. Swallow also does NOT work on PQ mobs, and most likely doesn't work on bosses (since Swallow is an instant kill on the affected monster).
MAX Crossroads
MAX Riding Mastery
MAX Hawk
MAX Blind
MAX Claw Cut
MAX Wild Trap
23 Wild Shot
Reasoning:
Level 1 Crossroads is MUCH stronger than max Ricochet (although it is slower), so your first point goes here. Riding Mastery is a massive buff and a wonderful training skill, so get it next; then max Crossroads. Wild Trap is a useful utility spell that works like a damaging Puppet, so go ahead and get 1 point. Claw Cut is maxed next and may replace HP potions (at least for some time). Wild Trap, Blind, and Hawk can be maxed in any order. Wild Shot is left at 21 because Trap, Blind, and Hawk are all much more useful in the long run, and Wild Shot is replaced at level 120 by Wild Vulcan.
VIII. Fourth Job
As with all Fourth Jobs, your SP distribution can be confusing. However, consider the following:
Bossing
Spoiler
120. 1 Wild Vulcan, 1 Beast Form, 1 Expertise
121. 4 Expertise
.
.
.
130. MAX Expertise, 2 Wild Vulcan
131. 5 Wild Vulcan
.
.
.
140. MAX Wild Vulcan, 1 Flash Rain
141. 3 Wild Instinct
.
.
.
144. MAX Wild Instinct, 3 Beast Form
145. 6 Beast Form
.
.
.
153. MAX Beast Form
Although a bit boring, this build will give you higher DPS for bossing early on. Vulcan is a very strong single target skill like Hurricane, but unlike Bowmasters, Wild Hunters can walk while casting it! Expertise is a hefty DPS boost; Beast Form is an extremely strong buff spell that increases your HP and attack for the duration; at max, Beast Form will have 50% uptime. 1 Flash Rain is filler.
Training
Spoiler
This build is similar to the last, but after maxing Vulcan, do the following:
141. 3 Sonic Boom
.
.
.
150. MAX Sonic Boom
151. 3 Chemical Shell
.
.
.
157. MAX Chemical Shell, 1 Wild Instinct
Sonic Boom is even stronger than Crossroads (although it is slower), and hits around you (somewhat like Shout). Max this for a powerful mob skill, then max Chemical Shell for the EXP bonus (I’m not sure if this works like Taunt, it might not be as useful if it doesn’t work on mobs).
Why would you max Sharp Eyes before touching Wild Shot or Expertise? You never did that as a Bowmaster pre-BB and you certainly wouldn't do it now since SE has been incredibly nerfed.
I was under the impression that SE was -always- maxed first.
edit: From what I had heard other people doing pre-Big Bang anyway.
I guess I'll redo the 4th job builds tomorrow, too tired right now. I see your point though, Vulcan and Expertise would be better choices now. @_@
That was pre BB due to how baller SE worked for bossing parties of appled nightlords and bowmasters. Now it doesn't really matter that much, but a decent level like level 9 or 19(?) can do some good for timer/partial bossing. For self damage, vulcan and expertise do WAY more for the self than SE could accomplish.
You're missing a level 55, but all that really does is add 3 points to Mine, so no big worry.
Edit: Also, other guides I've seen (for resistance classes in general) have had 3 SP at 2nd and 3rd job advancement, but I can't really confirm that myself.
Wouldn't it make more sense to just max Riding Mastery then Crossroads? I don't think splitting your SP points upon level-up between two skills is even advisable.
This link from Ellin Forest looks pretty reliable for Wild Hunter builds. No 4th job information though.
At first, I was glad to see a guide up and wanted to use it for my Wild Hunter.
But then I read the posts and apparently there are a lot of mistakes and misunderstandings. There are too many to dismiss as being tired.
If you're not going to do it right, go to sleep and write a good one in the morning.
I'll stick to the Ellin Forest one. Thanks for posting it Shadow.
Soul Arrow ASAP. I cannot fathom why you pushed it back so far- I hate carrying around arrows.
I really only used that explosive arrow for 2nd job training. Not sure what the name translated to. Everything else was just there to keep me entertained.
I don't agree with the 1st job build, but it doesn't really matter much either way. This is how I'd do it.
10: 1 Triple Shot, 1 Jaguar Riding, 3 Booster
11: 6 Booster
12: 1 Double Jump, 2 Triple Shot
Max Triple Shot
Max Jaguar Riding
Max Double Jump
Max Booster
You want to get Booster immediately because it's the biggest damage boost you can get for your SP. Triple Shot is next, then Jaguar Riding. You don't really need the HP so early on and the crit rate boost doesn't do as much for you as Triple Shot and Booster.
