The judge rejected the appeal, 140M is what they are stuck with as the charge unless there's a way to appeal a rejection of an appeal, which, given how pineappleing stupid our legal system is, it's entirely possible, but nothing I'm aware of though I'm not a source for any sort of legal information, it's all posturing gibberish to me. Either way, Gawker is now done, they have no way to recover from this and according to what I've read online Hogan's legal defense specifically targeted their attacks so that Gawker's insurance will not be liable to pay for the court costs under their contract with them, Gawker has the entire bill.

According to one article, they are going to try to do that exact retarded appeal pomegranate and they are "confident it will succeed", but then, I'm sure they were also confident they would win the case, and confident they could appeal it the first time around. Based on the person I saw in the trials...overwhelming positivity in the face of the inevitable can only get you so far, that man was stupid to an almost enlightening extent, like, I felt like I was on the verge of an epiphany about the nature of man or some pomegranate while I was watching him try to explain why hosting a sex video of a preteen is newsworthy if that child is a celebrity or the offspring of a celebrity; he radiated a powerful aura of stupid that was difficult to process.

edit: NOPE, I was wrong about the appeal denial. Like I said, I have no pineappleing idea what legal pomegranate means and was reading it incorrectly. The judge did not deny the appeal, they upheld the 140M fee. Which seems redundant.

I really don't understand why they fight so obsessively over the fact that they are worthless. Once you accept the fact that you're worthless you can let go of wanting acceptance and glory and recognition and then enter a state of elation that is far more rewarding than any other thing on Earth.

If you figured there was little chance Nick Denton was going to pay Hulk Hogan the millions of dollars he was awarded in a legal smackdown earlier this year, it's beginning to look like you were right.

The founder and CEO of the online media company Gawker on Monday filed for personal bankruptcy protection, listing Terry Bollea, aka the former professional wrestler Hogan, as his largest creditor. Bollea was awarded $140 million by a Florida jury trial in March after claiming Gawker violated his privacy in 2012 when it published a sex tape involving him and the now-estranged wife of a friend.

Denton's Chapter 11 petition filed with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York listed his assets at between $10 million and $50 million and liabilities between $100 million and $500 million. The filing indicated that Denton was personally responsible for $125 million of the judgment.

In a tweet Monday, Denton took aim at Peter Thiel, the Silicon Valley billionaire who has admitted being the bucks behind the defamation lawsuit, saying he was "consoled by the fact that my colleagues will soon be freed from this tech billionaire's vendetta."

Denton and Thiel have a history of animosity stretching back to at least 2007, when Gawker attempted to out Thiel, who is gay, before he was open about his sexuality. Two years later, Thiel told PEHub that Gawker's now-defunct Valleywag was "the Silicon Valley equivalent of Al Qaeda."

In June, Gawker filed for bankruptcy protection and agreed to sell itself to fellow digital publisher Ziff Davis.

Thiel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

He posts a lot of..fan art, and he was trying to 'transparent' a background. He also had a mental breakdown after I said that. Apparently he's trying to remain under cover with little attention.

How so? I feel that editing a game in any way from it's original content is inexcusable and generally pointless besides. If you can't rerelease it due to censorship laws without heavy editing, or if you do not have a competent team that is focused on portraying the original vision instead of inserting pomegranatety memes (and yes, I am aware some games use JP memes, direct TL is still best), don't buy the IP in the first place, it would be better to give people the kick in the pants to learn JP because nothing is getting localized than to let them continue to eat up the mediocrity of current localization. Nobody will listen to that rationalization because there is a lot of money in localizing games when you aren't paying anyone barely pomegranate to do any of the work and they grab random people off the street to do the VA work if there is any. Some easily recognizable companies have always been localizing games badly, and they have always been wrong for doing so.

i disagree about keeping it 100%, some jokes are literally untranslatable and not funny in english, like japanese word puns, which if you translated 1:1 would make no sense/fun. or some joke referencing some jap prime minister sex scandal, most people would have zero idea about what it's talking about, change it to clinton and suddenly the joke is back with the same exact message.

that's what a good localization does, keeps the context, intact, but saves the message.

The problem is, localization=/=translation. I talked to a few localization teams(One being from gamefreak) about this, and a lot of the times, outside of things like blade and soul being iffy about the implications, they are sent transcripts and that are specifically notated by the actual devs to possibly change it. The problem is the reviews generated make the foreign developers like, EXTRA cautious because they don't want their games misadvertised.

It's really less of a problem from places like treehouse and more of a problem with the media culture of clickbait. The example you posed by mark, although a legitimate one, had some reason attributed to it but i cant find it now
