Let your voice be heard (Korean MapleStory user survey)
Today a user survey has been posted on the MapleStory homepage. The developers are asking for the feedback of users. They want to give a large update that exceeds our expectations.
So I opened the survey and the first question is: ''What is the class of your main character''. Since I logged on with the account info of my Viper (Buccaneer), I was looking for the ''Adventurer Pirate branch''. BUT IT'S NOT THERE! Nexon forgot about us... I'm not filling it in until that option becomes available.
Since this is a user survey, I thought I could ask Southperry for feedback. I want to ask your most valuable feedback. How about this: I'll translate your English feedback in Korean and submit the user survey. I can do it twice. Because I have two separate accounts. The deadline to submit the user survey is March 31st.
Posts with the highest amount of pineapples are chosen. Is that cool?
Most of the questions are multiple choice and some not. The available choices are in italics.
What is the class of your main character?

Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
A: No, it is absolutely not.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
A: 180-250
In all honesty, the level cap just opened the opportunity to train again.
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
A: No I'm not.
I think Maple is one of the only games I've played that have this kind of trading system where every other has a marketplace system of some sort.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
A: No, I am absolutely not.
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
A: Somewhat likely.
For those who ACTUALLY read and pay attention to it, it's nice to see the flow. However, there are too many people who just skip it just for the benefits.
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
A: Somewhat likely.
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
A: Organizing boss runs and meeting up with guildmates for a huge event.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
A: Lots of people are able to kill steal because of amount of funding poured into their characters. There's many pros and cons with that but it creates stress to both sides.
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
A:
Fan-based content but that will never be implemented.
Something that requires a lot of people to do certain roles. One example would be Crimsonwood Keep Party Quest. That brought challenge until overpowered people and glitches made it easier.
Maybe bring back an updated Guild Party Quest based in Present Perion and Future Perion.
Create more ways to encourage solo training. Even though party play is great, there are some who are outcasted to train by themselves due to barriers.
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
A: I've been playing it since the 2005 or 2006. The community back then was the reason why many people probably want the old "pre-big bang" challenging MapleStory version. Try to make it so that we can get that feeling.

I would enjoy the story in Maplestory if it wasn't so fragmented. I mean, the whole thing is just a convoluted mess that gets lost in the details. It seems as though some older quests don't always reflect newer parts of the story, so it's very difficult to determine what's canon. Any concept of a timeline is just mind-numbingly stupid to figure out.
My suggestion would be this: streamline the story. Get rid of unnecessary side-plots. Make all of the old content compatible (story-wise) with new content. And for crying out loud, flesh the story out a bit. There is so much lore just thrown by the wayside (IE Why humans used to live near Orbis, etc.)
Big Bang was a fantastic start. They cleaned up the story and quests a bit, but it just wasn't enough.
Edit: To clarify, this should be Nexon's rule of thumb:
The buying and selling system may be biased on our end since GMS and KMS have different economics/prices and GMS doesn't have the cash shop trading system (with all cash items, not from surprise style).
I would still put absolutely no though. I don't like how you have to pay NX for get good, unique/legendary potential.
Re: Let your voice be heard (Korean MapleStory user survey)
Curious, if we have a KMS account can we do this ourselves as well?
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
No, it is absolutely not.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
Lv. 171~180
Honestly, 160-200 needs real level up content, but I assume you can only pick one, so I feel like 171-180 is the biggest issue.
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
I'm not.
It shouldn't be a cash item to set up the simplest of stores. Almost every F2P MMO since MapleStory has allowed a simple store to be free, with better options for people who pay.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
No, I am absolutely not.
Speaks for itself, really
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
It's not.
It's honestly too fragmented and scattered to be fun and interesting. It never develops, it just...gets bigger and more complex somehow without actually really doing much, at least in my opinion.
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Somewhat likely.
Familiar, but not convenient in many places. It needs more than the appearance revamp we got in Big Bang, it needs to be redone completely, especially when they're giving us another resolution increase. It needs to be adapted to the new resolution, and have the ease of use that MMOs of today have with their UIs. It's very clear that MS's UI is 9-10 years old, even if it looks flashier than it used to.
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
Back in Beta, when it was beneficial to explore and experience the entire game. The game was interesting to play in general. It was exciting to enter a new area for the first time. Still is. Problem is that there's rarely a new area to enter.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
The very second potential was realized to be a cash grab and a power boost to the ridiculous extent that it is. The very most dissatisfying moment in MapleStory was when they added Legendary tier, because it's just so unnecessary, and so much worse.
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
Useful quests. More diverse gameplay between classes. More class roles (everything shouldn't be DPS related). Reason to explore. Reason to use other areas. Less power split between slightly paying and excessively paying players.
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
MapleStory used to be fun, until they switched from adding areas to adding class after class, and making every month a repeat of the previous month with a new character. There needs to be a reason to want to play old characters again, and a useless 50 new levels doesn't cut it.
What is the class of your main character?
Demon Slayer
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
Yes it is. at least to the extent where there isnt a giant visible gap. small discrepencies and situations are fine.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
Lv. 61~70
Lv. 71~80
Lv. 81~90
Lv. 91~100
After Tour of Chryse, its pretty much dead for in game story content
Lv. 120+ More end game content is always good.
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
Somewhat likely. I feel that there's something missing. game needs more sinks and visual appeal items to spend on.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
I'm not. super P2W system. it hates any new player and is NOT new user friendly
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
Somewhat likely. The story is going, but spending so much time rebalancing classess is getting on everyones nerves. It wastes too much time on filler patches.
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Somewhat likely. I think quest UI and party hp ui and other ui like luminious can be fixed. hopefully in the new resolution
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
When i actually did a GM event and got somethign actually worthwhile from it
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
gap of p2w and f2p skyrocketed. game just kept favoring p2w
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
rather than rebalance classess. stop making future classes significantly stronger. you can make them flashy though. making them stronger burns up another 4 months of rebalancing, leading to power creep
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
for its genre, its unique, but on the path its going, its the same thing over and over again. something HAS to break the chain.

Yes, but it's a survey in Korean. Questions and answers are in Korean. Therefore I suggested that the feedback from the posts with the highest amount of pineapples gets translated by me. This is more leaning towards question 7, 8, 9 and 10 since those are the only questions that require some text from the user.
By the way, I like how you add your own thoughts to every question.

If we agree with the translated responses you could post them here, and we could copy them into our surveys. Would probably help get the point across on what at least some of the players want.

I agree with you completely. My ideal solution would be a class-unique chain quest (IE Corsair's would be different from Buccaneer's). Make it on the level of Evan's, and give SP from doing the quests, or some other incentive. Also making sure that it isn't one new quest every 5 levels, or whatever (Re: Resistance), but consistent.
This way, no matter what class you made, it would be a guaranteed new experience (at least until you start making duplicate characters).
What class is your main character?
Battle Mage =] it's the funnest character to me, and because of that I was able to make it all the way to level 140 on it, making it my highest level character. I also felt like I was never disappointed with any of the Battle Mage updates, they were never really made weaker with them; they were always improved in some way, which also meant to me that they weren't over-powered when they were first released which was good to see.
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate? No, it is absolutely not.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
I wanna answer ALL THE THINGS, but if I had to choose I'd just go with anything 100+ so...yeah.
EDIT: The big thing is, for most MMOs the end game is what you worry about. You get your character to 'max level' then start doing all the big things while you work on making your characters' armor better. In maple, they chose to give the game an unreasonably high max level cap, and as such it's always suffered with the "there's nothing to do now..." issue. I like to treat anything 4th job+ as this game's 'end game', and as such being able to level past that is just this game's way of tracking your 'end game' progress. Idk, regardless there needs to be more to do once you do finally hit 100+ Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
I don't really have much experience with buying and selling items, it was never much my thing. But I know for sure that I hate the FM market system - especially after playing other games like Vindi which just let you post items for sale with ease. I also dislike that you need to buy Owls just to quickly search up items that you're looking for...that seems really greedy to me. So I'll answer with... No, I am absolutely not.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
Eh, not really. Obviously potential's sucky cause it's so tough to work on getting an item with good potential unless you use NX, so I'm not a fan of how that all works. On the other hand, I never had too much issue with the idea of scrolling, I'm not much of a scroller cause I can't really afford to buy scrolls all the time, but I remember really enjoying scrolling my Maple set last time they had that Maple Memories shop with the armor set + scrolls. Enhancments are another toughy, I don't have much experience with em, but it always felt like it was just an extra way to accidentally destroy your item after doing all that work of scrolling it. I liked what I heard about that new "additional options" feature though, with Unlimited. I really liked the idea of fighting monsters over and over trying to get the armor you want with good extra stats, but I guess that doesn't count as enchanting since you have to find the item like that and I don't remember reading about a way to change those stats once you got em. So I'll answer with... I'm not.
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
Eh...not quite. I liked where they were going with the whole Black Mage story the release of the five heroes, and I remember being really psyched to play Resistance with the idea that they'd have a lot of Black Wings plot added into them. The problem I have is that pretty much the only time that they add to the story is when they release a new class and give them their quests to 30, and few quests on the way to 100. I'd love it if there were more story areas that would then link together with another story area later down the line. To be fair, my highest level character is only at 140, so I haven't really started on ToT or any of the "Future" areas, so it could change there. Even then, it would be sucky for the game not to develop an interesting story up until 140~160+ As such, I'll have to answer... Somewhat.
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Yeah, I guess. I don't really have much else to say about that, I never really felt like anything specifically bothered me about it, and I there isn't any other game that comes to mind as having a 'better' interface. So I'll answer... Yes it is.
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
The 'Big Bang' update and making my Battle Mage, for sure. I really interested in the idea of having a brand new area to go through, and just from looking at the map, it felt like I was going to be able to do all of my training up to 100 there instead of having to re-use the same places I've had to train in on every other character. That didn't quite happen as well as I had hoped...you still end up going to the same usual Mushy Castle at level 30, Kerning Square, etc etc up until 65ish when you have the option of coming back to Edelstein for Verne Mines, but it was still cool.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
>.> LHC staying Party Play when it became a Theme Dungeon...
I quit because of that stupid decision...I know this is a KMS survey, and GMS made the really stupid choice of keeping in both, but I this was the first thing that came to my mind. I was very happy and excited to have the option at 110 to start working on the LHC theme dungeon with the chance of obtaining Von Leon armor <3 ...and that was crushed when I watched the live show they did showing that they didn't change it... It felt insulting seeing them have all of the drops they needed (which was like 200 per quest, or something dumb like that) pre-optained completely skipping over what felt to me like the biggest issue with keeping the Party Play intact. I've never trained in LHC on any character I've ever made, and when the update happened I tried my best to do the first quest, but I hated how it felt grinding on those monsters and barely progressing on the quest. I still have hopes or the day they realize their mistake and get rid of the Party Play there...
I think what really bugged me is that, to me Party Play was removed in places like LHC because of the addition of Monster Park, which I really enjoy. Their decision to keep LHC has also left Monster Park in the dust....sure people still do it every now and then, but I was certain that if LHC had lost it's Party Play, Monster Park would be as I had hoped it would be, giving people the option to either go to solo places, or Party Play in Monster Park.
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
I'd like it if they'd go back to places that people barely visit anymore and revamp them to be more 'Theme Dungeon'-like. I really like doing Theme Dungeons, even though I've gotten bored of repeating them on every character. It would just be nice if you knew you could go to places like El Nath at a certain level, do any quest you can there and leave with a prize equip item and medal to remember the place by as you progress in your adventure.
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
I don't know, I have mixed feelings about the game. On one side, I really like it's art style and the little story it has is wonderful to see. I also look forward to any update that adds something new to progression from 1-100+, and I'd like it if one day there were branches in the progression. I picture making a new class and deciding I should go train/quest in Ariant or Mu Lung and come out of either place with something cool to continue on with and some put together story to remember it by. Yeah those places have quests and story, but it it doesn't feel like a story-line to me, it just feels like bits of story spread out in a messy way at the moment. Another thing I'd like to say is that although I've been perfectly fine with the idea of new classes coming out, mainly because it also means some form of new story added to the game - I'd like if they took a break from that, and focused more heavily on just adding stuff to do for the existing classes. I'd love it if they take advice from a game like Mabinogi, and maybe instead of new classes all the time, they do something like Role-play quests, where they could add you into someone else's story, by letting you be someone else temporarily. But I that's just me wishful-thinking, I doubt they'd decide to do that when they know new classes mean new characters for people to spend money on =/
Man, this is my longest post on this site =3

Re: Let your voice be heard (Korean MapleStory user survey)
Posted a survey.
Spoiler
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
No, it is absolutely not.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
Level 140+, especially level 180 to 250.
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
No, I am absolutely not.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
No, I am absolutely not.
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
No, absolutely not.
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Somewhat likely.
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
I enjoyed spending time with forum members like joining the official guild of the forum.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
Potential System and Mystery Mastery Books. To me, it's more of a P2W than F2P, especially if it's luck based. It takes a long time and so many tries to get what you want. For MMB you have to hunt for them to get the book you want hoping it doesn't fail.
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
Useful and challenging quests (not get certain number of items or kill certain number of monsters.) Balanced characters, Enjoyable solo training, Make everything a theme dungeon (no Party Play.)
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
Back in 2006, this game used to be fun and all about exploring new areas. Now we're in a dark ages where there was always fast EXP training spots, who's stronger than who and what not. I prefer playing older classes than newer classes, because it gets tired fast.
As with Polantaris I'll be elaborating on my thoughts in italics where appropriate. Darn close-ended questions being located where I want it to be open-ended.
Spoiler
What is the class of your main character?
Phantom.
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
No, it is absolutely not.
Each new class has only worsened the balance between the new classes and it is readily evident that most of the classes released after Phantom are heavily unbalanced and overpowered, which leads to round after round of attempts to rebalance all the classes that fail to address the issues inherent with the most left behind classes: The Adventurer classes.
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
Level 181 - 190.
This was the stage I found to be the most tedious. While levelling up is slower at the end I don't feel motivated to level up when I'm in this category because I'm done learning all of my skills.
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
No, I am absolutely not.
I dislike being forced to buy cash for a store. Though it is still more value for money than almost anything I care to name it greatly inconveniences people who do not have much to sell and were only hoping to unload some items; in that sense the ability to change rooms within the FM has only served to make players buy cash for shops.
Besides this, I know this may be impossible but I would like to see an actual trading system in-game that allows us to trade items for cash. I do not know how often cash trades happen in KMS, but items at other versions may be so costly to make that buying it in cash is often the only option given.
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
No, I am absolutely not.
I don't think I even need to elaborate on this.
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
Somewhat likely.
I'm split here: While I do find the story more fun and interesting than not, I still want Nexon to tie up the loose strings and re-do the storyline so that it's an actual story of Maple. Currently, you could do all of the quests but you wouldn't be too endeared to the characters as most do not meet up in their storyline (Looking at you, Heroes).
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Yes it is.
No comment here, the ease of using the interface is one of the technical reasons why I play Maple Story.
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in Maple Story.
Making my Phantom was by far the most interesting moment I had in Maple Story. I had never considered maining a Thief class until I saw the trailers and quest info about Phantom; liking what I saw, I could not wait for the time when I could make my own and what a moment that was. From the opening that links the past to the present and Phantom's own dive into a conspiracy designed to overthrow the current Empress just a while after he wakes up, I suddenly felt as if I was playing a real console RPG instead of Maple Story.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
There are many moments, but the one I'd pinpoint specifically is the moment when we as players of MapleSEA discovered that Asiasoft was putting the Hot Time hats into the Gacha machine, effectively forcing us to spend cash if we wanted it. Things have gone downhill since then; our Pink Bean chairs can be sold for money since we can't buy one from the Justice Shop, our weapons did not come with epic potential at the final Justice event and Clean Slate scrolls are non-existent which drives the price of items through the roof.
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
I would love to see a story and quest update. Most of the quest rewards are not worth anything now and I'm bored of doing them since I know the story and I'm not allowed to make any interesting choices that would lead to quest branches.
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
If it's true that you approved all of the nerfs that Asiasoft has done, please, please revise that decision. I and many others love this game and we have little alternatives in SEA, so it breaks our hearts to be marginalized all the time and even be denied signature hats for our characters.
What is the class of your main character? Adventurer Pirate branch
Q1. Do you think the balance between classes in MapleStory is appropriate?
No, it is absolutely not.
(The fact that they even have to ask this is pretty funny)
Q2. For which level range should level up content be added?
Level 191-200
(I assume we must pick one of those level ranges, but really I think level 180-250 needs more content).
Q3. I am satisfied with the current buying and selling system for items.
I'm not.
(It shouldn't cost NX for a basic store permit, and Owls are the dumbest thing ever. Keep the Mushroom Permits NX only but regular stores and FM searching should be available to all players.)
Q4. I am satisfied with the current item enchantment system (scrolls, potential, enhancement).
No, I am absolutely not.
(Favors NX buyers too much. In my opinion, cubes should be available through in-game methods. Giving them as rewards for Quests or PQs would provide more incentive for people to do them.)
Q5. The story in MapleStory is fun and interesting.
Yes it is.
(But the problem is that there isn't much incentive to pay attention to it unless you actually care about it. The storyline has little to no effect on gameplay.)
Q6. The interface in MapleStory is familiar and convenient to use.
Yes it is.
(It could use an update though, to make it look more fresh like the item UI from Unlimited)
Q7. Please write what your most interesting moment was in MapleStory.
It's hard to narrow it down to just one, but the most recent would be Root Abyss because it caters to a lot of players. The bosses are fun and can be taken down by an average party. The rewards are nice and the storyline is pretty interesting as well.
Q8. Please write what moment in MapleStory left you with dissatisfaction/inconvenience.
When cubes were released. It started the massive power creep we've seen in the past 2 years. In particular, the Legends patch that released Mercedes and DS along with the Legendary tier. That started the trend of "release overpowered class -> nerf -> release even more overpowered class".
Q9. Please write what should be updated in MapleStory?
Balance between classes improved. Classes should have more distinct roles instead of giving everyone similar skills. Quests and Party Quests should have better rewards and experience, maybe make them a good alternative to grinding. Also less NX dependency on the equipment system.
Q10. Please write something about MapleStory.
It's a great game but it has many glaring flaws that need to be addressed. The power creep needs to stop.
