They seem to be on a roll as of late.

The incident was just part of something Anonymous is calling “Operation Darknet,” a move by the group to eliminate child pornography on the Tor network. Tor, which was originally developed as a way of protecting government communications by the U.S. Navy, now describes itself as “a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.” But the privacy and anonymity it offers has been abused by child pornographers, something that Anonymous aims to correct with its new campaign.
In its statement about the takedown, Anonymous says that the group “identified [hosting service] Freedom Hosting as the host of the largest collection of child pornography on the internet,” adding “By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites, among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date containing more than 100GB of child pornography. We will continue to not only crash Freedom Hosting’s server, but any other server we find to contain, promote, or support child pornography.”
The group’s statement ends with the following demands:
“Remove all child pornography content from your servers. Refuse to provide hosting services to any website dealing with child pornography. This statement is not just aimed at Freedom Hosting, but everyone on the internet. It does not matter who you are, if we find you to be hosting, promoting, or supporting child pornography, you will become a target.”

Seems like they are finally doing something less controversial that will help their image.
Everyone seems to be against child pornography these days, even SOPA supporters.

everyone (except those who fap to it obviously) is against CP, problem is when th government anounces that they'll combat it, but the measures taken have nothing to do with it.
i can't remember the name of that bill though, something like "stop child pornography act" or something like that, which could track your online BUYS and stuff. because everyone buys their CP from amazon or something it seems.
Re: Anonymous Takes Down 40+ Child Porn Sites
This kind of goes against what they stand for, but I guess if they take down CP sites then the governments can't pass internet laws in the name of eliminating CP anymore.
Re: Anonymous Takes Down 40+ Child Porn Sites
They're just mad because all the Tor addresses are b& on /b/ for CP.

b&? Really?
I for one don't actually mind this. The internet community needs some public image nowadays, and not much of our activity gets aired on public media if it's not batpomegranate insane.

That's the technical term, yes.

Anonymous =/= /b/
Re: Anonymous Takes Down 40+ Child Porn Sites
The term "Necessary Evil" comes to mind when I read this.
I have never supported Anonymous however I don't think anyone can disapprove of these actions...

I'm guessing free internet has some restrictions aswell. It's not like they support "anarchic" internet where everyone can do whatever they pineappleing want expecting everyone else not to give a pineapple.
If they were to take down sites that promote things that go against human rights or what have you, would you still call them hypocrites?

But that would be hypocrisy. All should be free, or nothing should be. I think its a good move personally though. The small percentage of CP papayagots are giving us all a bad name.

Well seeing as they don't really have an official stand point on stuff like this, I can't really say that per say. I guess if we want our internet to succeed we must abide by some laws.

Contrary to popular belief, anarchy does not mean everybody can do whatever they want and nobody gives a damn.
In a real-world anarchy, child molesters would be subject to "vigilante justice" or lynching.
In the internet anarchy, Anonymous do it.
Re: Anonymous Takes Down 40+ Child Porn Sites
Even if we say "Everything should be free", there are still some things that even free should be punishable, and if there are no laws to punish the wrongdoers then someone else does, after all people would be "free" to take these measures if they want to...
We are human beings after all, True freedom its something difficult to achieve and may have different meaning to some people.
