FCC PASSES Net Neutrality
I didn't even know they were working on it. It's their own version, which I consider to be worse than the one that was going through Congress.

the FCC passed Net neutrality regulation that reclassifies broadband as a Title II service, akin to the old telephone network
Welcome to the new internet, enjoy your stay. The law is over 300 pages, by the way.

The Verizon salt is very real.
Re: FCC PASSES Net Neutrality
you confused me with that article for a while, i kept reading it and going "wait, this doesn't sound bad, why are you complaining?"
funny the whole article resumes to "well, in the worst case scenario nothing improves!"

As the article states, it's bad for us right now, but it's much worse for us in the future based on the wording of the actual law and the things it allows them to do. As with every other thing, government over-regulation is not a good thing, and this can only spiral downward due to all of the concessions that they are given. The absolute BEST case scenario is "government spending increases a ton, but nothing technically gets "worse" for the internet itself", and that's an incredibly unlikely scenario to begin with.
And I have to note, a law over 300 pages CANNOT be in our interest if they refuse to even release it to the public, to think otherwise is far beyond optimistic and passes into the realm of insanity.

It didn't go through Congress, they used loopholes to get it passed, namely, older laws that gave the FCC rights to pass certain things for themselves without needing to go through Congress. The list of things they were able to do independently increased over the years across a ton of different bills, probably without Congress even realizing, because they have no foresight whatsoever. Incompetence is kind of our government's thing, if you hadn't noticed yet.

That wasn't the question.
The question is, how can a law work if it isn't released to the public.
You have to know a law to be able to abide by it.

I don't know. I thought about that as well but I don't know. I doubt it will become an Orwellian nightmare, they will quickly realize how stupid they are being and release it, because at this point, if a judge tells you "ignorance of the law is no excuse" I'm not sure what the proper response would be, maybe a look that's somewhere between laughter and distress for the absurdity of the situation?
Just look around for the paperwork online if you don't believe me though, you won't find it at this point even though it passed days ago.
Re: FCC PASSES Net Neutrality
Making the internet a government regulated public utility is a terrible move for net neutrality. It just gives them more access to the data being passed around because it's no longer a commercial enterprise.

I'm now imagining them accessing everyone's porn.

A chief at work was talking about this today, and how it was a bad idea. his point's were basically that we gave control of the most expansive form of open, free communication, which when used in china can be used by their government to shut it down to quiet dissenters and general disagreements, to an administration that tried to instill an internet kill switch during obama's first term, and can't even manage running the country properly.
He also made complaints about how the FCC in it's heyday made the rules over radio/t.v. that say "if we don't like what you have to say, you can't say it or you'll be fined/imprisoned," and that's the organization that's going to be in charge of it all, of which the entire upper leadership were appointed by obama, which would lead to them being told to do something by him, and them just doing it.
paranoia was rife.

So, every statement he made is completely true (minus the kill switch which wouldn't surprise me but I doubt is real), yet it's still paranoia? Sounds more like legitimate concerns to me.

Follow the threads, and you'll find sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.
