Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
Settings -> Permissions Groups or
http://www.southperry.net/profile.php?do=editusergroups
Should show something similar to;
http://southperry.net/images/personal/optout.png
You may leave the group "Optional Force-Read Opt-In" to avoid being redirected to mass opinion polls that I deem optional. This will not prevent you from reading things I consider important enough to force you into, or things I consider important enough to force specific groups into.
Everyone should be in this group by default and upon registering at this time, so leaving is a choice.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
For a second there I thought you actually caved and weren't gonna force people to read the really important threads anymore. Good to see that isn't the case.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
You should have a medal for those who do participate to encourage people to keep in it. Kind of like the chinchilla thing

Nope, but in the future threads like this one may only be compulsory to the people who are opted in, and mods and similar who don't get a choice in having to read everything involving changes.

Actually that's very easily doable, since it's a user group. But I'd need something to use for it.

I don't really think we need to showcase every little thing a user does to contribute to the boards. I'd rather not have the area around our names become completely filled with "medals" or "badges" or whatever.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
Good idea. This should keep people from complaining. If they do now, we can just call them blissfully ignorant. :D
On a side note... I'd be scared to see what Southperry looks like on the inside. A hardly modified vBulletin can be scary enough, but with all of the usergroups and shiet Southperry has, it has to be a mess.

Inverse the color's of your display picture, and fade it to look like a stamp :f2:

Well that's usergroup #34 right there...our plugins table is 330k, our templates are 14mb, and our forum folder is about 250 mb larger than a clean install.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
Oh, this is nice. On more than one occasion I've been prompted to read a thread I've already read, now I can make that less likely.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
A nice addition for the complainers.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
While i think its a great function whats the main use for these threads - they have been used for important site update ect that i can get behind, but not sure if the last one was a troll.....
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
At least this will shut up the complainers. Although I actually like the way that we're forced to look at some threads. It's kind of a community thing.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
The only reason i would take myself out of this is because being forced to read such threads gives tapatalk an "unknown error" and refuses to work until you go on a computer and read the thread.

This is everything I wanted and more. Thank you Eos.

Somehow that makes me feel unclean.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
I really feel as though people shouldn't have a choice. If they want to be a part of the community they should at the very least contribute an opinion. I guess it's not too bad though since you'll still force them to read "the important ones" but still. People who get so miffed over something that takes two minutes to redirect to, read, and respond rubs me the wrong way.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
Some people don't like to be forced to do something on a schedule other than their own.
Re: Opt out of being forced to read mass participation threads
Because taking a second to click on an option on a poll is just oh so awful #FirstWorldProblems?

Takes more than a second if you actually read the poll question and think about your answer.

God forbid something take you two minutes to read and make a decision on.
