Was surprised there was no thread for this, so I made one.

Hurricane Sandy could affect as many as 60 million people.
"This is the most catastrophic event that we have faced and been able to plan for in any of our lifetimes," Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy said.
An expected storm surge at midnight could raise water levels to 11 feet above normal high tide, bringing "the potential to cause unprecedented damage."

All I can say for people at the East Coast:

Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Yeah, I'm sitting essentially at the north face of it. Power hasn't gone out yet, I don't think it will. The last hurricane knocked the power out for a week, this one doesnt seem threatening.

Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
perhaps it's time for the east coast to take Florida's example for dealing with hurricanes. flash flood in higher elevations are a peach though and I'm not looking forward to the snow were supposed to get
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
I'm following this obsessively, being in the middle of sunshine and happiness here in the Midwest. Like what.

Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Some noisy wind and a spot of rain so far, but we're only dealing with like the very edge of the storm so far. Looking at it now, there's apparently a nice big band above us right now.
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Welp, here's an excuse for me to start posting again.
It looks really bad outside and the streets near me are starting to flood.
In Southern Long Island by the water.
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
I'm in Delaware and so far it's just been windy and pretty rainy. Doesn't seem so terrible yet, but apparently it hasn't reached landfall yet.

Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
When a hurricane hits america its not as bad compared to when it hits all the tiny islands in its path. I have been on a small island for 5 hurricanes. Hurricane Andrew took the roof off our house and we had to stay under the bed mattress until it was over.
Hope things dont get to bad, rather have a few flash floods than gusting winds.
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Whoops. Did not mean to rate the above post, dam iPhone.
Just made a status on Facebook about how I cannot believe we will have classes on Wednesday because my school advised students to go home (most people that go here live in the direct path of sandy).
>newsfeed updates 5 seconds later to tell me he University has cancelled classes.
Whelp. Time to finish my work and then let loose.

Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Still got power, but the lights are constantly flickering. It's like an epileptic's nightmare up in here.
Anyways, a huge tree branch fell in the backyard. Guess who has to help move it. And it's super windy so it sort of has a Halloweeny feel to it.
I CAN SEE THE pineappleING WATER. MY STREET IS FLOODING. AND SO IS MY UNCLE'S CAR.
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
posting from my cell phone's internet because my services are out
i live by the coast and it is HELL here right now
our shed got smooshed by a tree >:
Hurricane Sandy Discussion
Ahahahahahaha this hurricane is the BEST. I just got back from swimming in my street and walking around. Watching the waves waterfall over the sidewalk is the most unreal thing to watch.

As of yesterday, Virginia Beach, where I live, had the highest recorded rainfall at the time. It's strange. All we've gotten here has been rain and wind. It's kind of disappointing. I was expecting a little more out of a hurricane, as opposed to previous years.
Re: Hurricane Sandy Discussion
I still have power, surprisingly. *knock on wood* Been keeping up with Sandy news all day and been on /r/Sandy/new for a good part of the evening. Seen some crazy things.
