Let's assume you are a dexless, level 100 Hermit. You have a 50 ATK Claw, 10 ATK WG, 12 ATK pot, and Ilbies. How will your damage be affected for after the patch when you hit a green snail? This is assuming NO CRITICALS and NO SHADOW PARTNER.
First of all, stats:
508 LUK
4 DEX
99 ATK (50 + 10 + 12 + 27)
Lucky 7
BEFORE THE PATCH:
For Lucky 7:
Minimum Damage: 1885
Maximum Damage: 3771
Multiply that by 2 stars for a total range of 3770 ~ 7540
Now, just for the sake of it, let's calculate that you hit a crit for both stars which is the absolute best damage you can do and happens only 25% of the time. That would leave you with a range of 6286 ~ 12,573

AFTER THE PATCH:
Regular damage range:
Minimum Damage = 2620
Maximum Damage = 4031
Lucky 7 Range:
Minimum Damage = 2620 * 1.7 multiplier * 0.9 (Mob damage penalty) = 4,009
Maximum Damage = 4031 * 1.7 multiplier * 0.9 (Mob damage penalty) = 6,167
Multiply that by 2 stars for a total range of 8018 ~ 12,334
So, even figuring before the patch with crits and after the patch without them, you are much better off after the patch regardless of what happens due to a higher amount of mastery. The 200 damage off the top end really won't affect your killing speed near as much as the extra 1800 damage on the bottom end.
Also, we're figuring a damage range after the patch which will happen 100% of the time versus a situation which will only happen 25% of the time in the before patch scenario. The after-patch scenario is the clear winner.
Triple Throw
BEFORE THE PATCH:
For Triple Throw:
Minimum Damage: 1885
Maximum Damage: 3771
Multiply that by 3 stars for a total range of 5655 ~ 11,313
Now, just for the sake of it, let's calculate that you hit a crit for all three stars which only happens 12.5% of the time. That would leave you with a range of 9429 ~ 18,859

Regular damage range:
Minimum Damage = 2620
Maximum Damage = 4031
Triple Throw Range:
Minimum Damage = 2620 * 2.6 multiplier * 0.9 (Mob damage penalty) = 6131
Maximum Damage = 4031 * 2.6 multiplier * 0.9 (Mob damage penalty) = 9433
Multiply that by 3 stars for a total range of 18,393 ~ 28,299
So, after the patch even not calculating crits you are still better off than before the patch. Your minimum damage range after the patch is the same as your maximum range before it. Also consider that in the "before" calculations we're calculating something which will only happen 12.5% of the time. The "after" patch calculations will happen 100% of the time. The after-patch calculations are a clear winner regardless of what happens with criticals.
