% Stat Potentials affect base or total stat?

For as long as I've been playing this game, I never knew if the % stat from potentials are based off the base stat or total. Some of my guildies say it's only affected by the base stat, and advised me to scroll equips for dex rather than luk (since I'm a thief and I'm having trouble trying to maintain enough dex to prepare for switching into the empress set even at lvl 200 and adding the remaining AP into dex). He said since % stat potentials only affect base, it doesn't matter if i scroll for dex or luk, but since I need dex, it would be more essential.

So does the % stat potentials affect the base stat or total?

I've got a decent amount of %str, like around 60% at the moment.
when i equip my +8str medal, my str goes up by like twelve.
if that helps in any way.

% stat multiplies with all +stat bonuses that are not potential bonuses.

It adds with all +stat bonuses that are potential bonuses.

goes pretty much like this:

{([Base*MW]+static bonus)*potential}

static bonus is for example "+30 stat" in an equip, or lines of "+10 str" in potential.

I was under the impression that flat +stat potential was not multiplied with %? o_O

it gets multiplied, if you have 100% str, and you equip a 5 str medal, you'll gain 10 str.

which makes scrolling for mainstat quite powerful too.

I've always known that +stat bonuses from equips multiplied, but I was talking about the flat bonuses from potential :f6:

it does, of course, since at unique rank you won't have any "+X stat" since everything is in %'s, it doesn't matter that much (but yes, it does)

i just double checked with some earrings i have (+8str from pot, no str on them)
gained 14 str from it.

so yea, i can assure you they get multiplied too.

On chars using secondary stats to equip things, it doesn't matter what you scroll with as long as it's the best stats the item can get, since either way you're getting more points in primary stats (+20 dex or +20 luk on a thief, if your base dex goes down by 20 your base luk goes up by 20)

You are forgetting about MW, it's better to scroll for your secondary stat so you can keep it lower and benefit more from MW.

what shidoshi said, if i required 104 dex to equip something, and i added those 100 points to dex, i'd be missing 15 str gained from MW, which then gets increased even more by my potential (say 50% str) i'd be losing on over 20 str, and growing with the more %mainstat i have.

So based on what you guys said about MW coming into effect as well (affecting only base) since I'm 200 and have maximized my AP into luk and put the remaining (i believe 23) into dex, and still require dex for an empress set, should I scroll items for dex or just try to upgrade on items that come with dex already?

On another note, any thieves know if we'll get that new skill that boosts dex and luk like every other job? And if so, how much of a boost is it because I'm still missing a good 17-20 dex to be able to equip empress equips (without relying on MW or dex potions or potentials)

I would personally scroll a few items for dex.

Yeah, we get the Physical Training skill (30 dex & 30 luk) in Justice patch.

are you missing the dex simply to equip it, or to have it self-sustain? because if it's the first i'd recommend not scrolling for dex and simply waiting for the buff you said, or getting some +dex accesories simply to glitch the gear on.

It's slightly more subtle than that - it's best your secondary stat base be at a multiple of 20, that maximizes MW gains.

20 base + 30 MW = 23 secondary stats (20 MW = 22, 10 MW = 21 stats)


If you have 4 dex 603 str, that's 4 dex 693 str [697 total base stats]. If you have 20 dex 587 str, that's 23 dex 675 str [698 total base stats].

Obviously only important on extreme optimization attempts, since your gear's secondary stat needs to be scrolled to the exact stat total you need.

but every point in main, is worth 4 of secondary, so it still doesn't matter, no?

That sounds better and much easier. The 30 dex from the physical training should suffice to be able to equip the item. Thanks!
