At level 118, I'm beginning to use Silver Hawk more but finding that it is almost as disruptive as it is helpful. I've been at Red Kents trying to find myself a White Nisrock and when mobbing Kents on one side or the other, the Hawk will normally wait and if something spawns behind me, will attack it and keep me safe until I can thoroughly fill the mob with steel point objects and strafe away at the stunned target.

However, it doesn't always work out as planned. Sometimes it won't attack the target behind me and wail on those in front of me that are dealing with puppet. Is there a science to it that I'm not aware of?

A Science? Sorta... Little Birdy threat-sensors are distance based. It'll attack whatever's closest to you.

How a bird thinks:
1. Is there anything in my range (492 pxls, 246 left and 246 right)
2. No there isn't anything in my range -> Float around
3. Yes there is
3a. If there is more then 1, pick cloests
3b. If there's only one attack the shit outta it.

That's about it. If there is more then one monster in its range, it will pick one the closest.

You sure about that Techno? It's never faultered from attacking stuff closest to me..

What level is your Eagle? You probably use it less (Mine's been 20 since 96 or so)

I always thought it attacked the closest monster as well... though I could be wrong.

Yeah, it's closest. Just checked it at rashes. Never once did my Spifficus attack anything more a distance away than the stunned one that was in front of me.

aye theres a science to it, stand closer to the monster you want it to attack, regardless of whether its in the front or back. This process becomes 1000 times easier once you have Dragon pulse (or breath as it's called...but pulse is cooler).

Seeing as you can pulse away the 4 skelegons in front of you, leaving the one behind you to be stunned while you storm the living hell out of the other four.

you're probably just standing too close to the monster in front of you. It simply attacks the closest. Just make sure the monster behind you is litterally RIGHT next to you, and then as long as you're still able to fire at the monsters in front of you, you'll be fine.

from my experience, hawk is not good at kents, i found myself running as hawk will stun and agro 1 monster once and move to another soo after.

I also find Hawk not very useful at Kents.
Hawk will usually stun monsters you did not want it to stun and make a whole mob of Kents go after you.
In time this will be extremely bothersome when you have a bunch of Kent spear things flying at you making you waste a bunch of pots.

Hawk is mostly good when you're taking things out one by one (bone fish, newties, etc) and can get annoying in mobs as others have said (just had to say this so that there's some "organization" in which senses hawk is useful and not useful, lol).
