I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but I've been brainstorming about a new area I'd like to see in Maplestory. Now, the names aren't the best, and this is just an idea, but this is what I have so far:
WARNING: LONGISH POST AHEAD!
Well, I have a huge idea for a new area...
WELCOME to the continent of Makkah!
General Information:
Makkah is a new, civilized, domsticated, high tech continent. It features several countries, including the one and only Kesko, the high tech capital of Makkah. Makkah features a variety of terrain. Starting off with the basics, it has a beach area, a high tech capital, a low tech country side, mountains (desert mountains), an oasis, forested area, and new to maple, an archapeligo of islands.
The Capital-Kesko.
Kesko is the largest country/city in all of Makkah. It has several key parts. The first of which is the business district, Kappan Street. Kappan Street features many different maps. The whole premises of Kesko is sleek, streamlined buildings, robots, and other stuff. Kappan street is where you will see most of the different buildings. Other streets include, "Uptown Kesko," "Downtown Kesko," and the famous building, "The Toppah Centere." The Toppah Centere features some of the strongest monsters in the game, with a boss at the top. I will go into more detail later.
PQs-
Kesko features one main PQ, and that is the Boss Rush PQ. In this PQ, you form two parties, 120+, and fight through a version of the Toppah Centere. You start at a bottom level, fighting simple bosses, like the Enraged Lord Pirate. As you move up the tower, they get harder and harder. You won't have to fight Zakum or Horntail, but the final boss will be Pink Been. Before that, you face the Toppah Centere boss, which I will get to in a minute.
Monsters-
Kesko features a variety of monsters, all relating to high tech. Most of them tend to be robots, no matter where you are. Once you get into the Toppah Centere, you start facing difference creatures. They vary from regular people, to animals, to bewitched items. At the top, you face the second strongest monster in the game, Askal. Askal is a human-lizard-robot morph. It's stationary, and takes a about 20-30 people to take it down. Think of it like a buffed up Zakum, but not quite as much HP as it. It has 6 forms, each with 500m HP each. It has a body attack, that does 25k touch damage, a 1/1 Magical Attack, and several other strong magic attacks. For defeating it, you get a special eye accessory, called Askal's Shades. They are similar to NX glasses, but they give +12 to all stats, and have 7 slots for any scrolls you want to use.
NPCs
Really all the NPCs are just humans here.
Theme-
High tech, duh.
Storyline-
Back when Ossyria was first being started, some individuals got incredibly smart. They hated laws in Ossyria, so they decided to flee. After traveling for days, they cam apon Makkah, and decided they could get a fresh start. They spent years upon years, building, creating, and improving on everything there. After about 300 generations, their ancestors finally finished building the capital city, Kesko. The people from Kesko continued to build up, creating several towns, Tropica, Indur, and Forted. Tropica, the beach, Indur the oasis, and Forted, the forest. Nobody really knows what has happened to these towns, and they seem to be lost in any archive. No information has been found about them yet, so Kesko still remains the only city in Makkah so far.
This concludes the chapter about Kesko.
The Peaceful Resort-Tropica (Tro-pec-a)
General Information-
Tropica is a combination between a beach and a volcano (think Hawaii). The terrain on this island, just off the southern coast of Kesko, can vary depending on where you are. There are three main parts to the island: the beach, which surrounds the perimeter, a rainforest, which surrounds the volcano, and the Volcano, named Mt. Trope. This volcano has created perhaps the most interesting terrain that could be in maple: lava rocks, beach, and a forest area.
PQs-
There is a main PQ to this island, called the Volcano Exploration. This PQ is your generic PQ, in which your goal is to journey to the heart of the Volcano. Think of it as a simpler, much more rewarding, and better exp PPQ. That, and it's for 51-60. In this PQ, you will fight monsters (not named yet) around the perimeter. As your altitude gets higher, the monsters get stronger. Once you get to the rim, you fight the boss. It's pretty much a slaughter fest. There is an option of a solo match, and a multi party battle, which allows you to compete with 4 or more parties. The points are totaled based on how many monsters your party kills, how long it takes you to finish each stage, and how long it takes you to kill the boss. I'm going to go ahead and say the boss, as it is not an area boss. His name is Volcan, he's level 75, has 3 magic attacks, 1k touch damage, and dispell. The reward for this PQ is over 150k exp, a random 60% or 30% scroll (hoorah, no Def), and a Volcanic Ruby. Take the Ruby down to the main City to get it forged into the Smoldering Necklace, which adds +4 to all your stats, and includes 3 weapon attack. The ruby is obtained once having one 150 PQs, and has a market value of over 300m. (Note, the chance of getting 3 attack, or any attack at all, is very slim, thus the price being so high.)
Monsters-
Boy, Tropica has some of the coolest monsters possible. Down on the beach area, Pempa, you have a wide variety of lowish level monsters from 20-35. These make great training spots. They vary from crabs, to fish, to the occasional seagull. If you go to the southern tip, you can fight some level 50 sharks. Up towards the rainforest, you get some higher level monsters, 55-65. These monsters make great training spots. Examples are apes, birds, lizards, and the occassional Tropical Polar Bear (Lost Olol). Once you move up to the Volcano, you get much stronger monsters, level 80+. These monsters are usually combinations of lava, ice, and rock. Lava golemns are common here. The most notable training ground is, "The Volcanic Rim," which contains Steam Clouds. Steam Clouds spawn in packs of 10, perfect for mobbing. Their HP is 8700, while they have an exp rate of 760, the highest ratio in the game, making this place notable for training. There is a notable area boss in the volcano, Magmas, a level 110 boss, with high touch damage and several magical attacks.
NPCs-
All the NPCs here are natives. Towards the beach, you have Bikini Babes (Too make it fair for the woman, yes, your beach dreams are here too.) You also have tour guides, scuba divers, and others. Towards the rainforests, MORE TOUR GUIDES. Once you reach the volcano, they become hunters, tour guides, and other people.
Storyline-
One of the volcanos on the main continent exploded rapidly thousands of years ago. Constant waves pushing against the land broke pieces of a lava shelf off, causing the lava to float into the ocean. Volcanic ash kept piling up in a certain area, allowing an island to form. Eventually, the small island colided with the huge piece of lava shelf, forming the island. Years of abrassion has worn away the volcano, causing sand to form. As the climate changed, plants were able to grow on the island, forming a rainforest. Years after Kesko was finished, daring people decided to explore the ocean. They ran into an uncharted island, and started to build up a civilization here. They became known as the Tropescs. Explorers continued to venture into the sea, and eventually found Tropica, and recorded onto a map. Since then, many people have journeyed here, either for tourism or the thrill.
This concludes the chapter of Tropica.
The Stormy Forest-Forted (Four-tayt)
General Information-
Forted is a dense forest located just outside of Kesko. It sits at the foot of the volcano, Mt. Mesk. The forest is known for its high winds, deadly storms, and other dangerous weather conditions. It's nickname is, "The Stormy Forest." Many quests refer to it by that way, so if you are to run into that, you will know this is the place.
To enter the city, you must complete a series of fetch quests. You will be at a map called, "The Hidden Cave," just before you enter the city. An NPC there will ask you to hunt for many different items. Once you find the items, he will forge them together. Then, you must enter the cave. The cave is a giant maze, and you must find a certain NPC. Some maps lead to OHKO monsters, others lead to the next area. The map lays out like this:
*D=Door to Exit/Door to Enter
*P=Portal
*T=Valuable Treasures (worth a stop)
*M=Monsters
*O=Teleport back outside
*R=Returns you to a random map
You can use your mini map to find your room.
D T M O P R 1
M T R O P 2
P T O R M 3
T P O M R 4
R T P O M 5
R T O M P 6
R O R T T D
Once you reach the second door, you will reach an NPC. Give the NPC the item, the "Hidden Cave" map will be removed, and you will be able to enter Forted.
Forted is a city made mostly for 10-55. There are training maps all around the place, great for experience. Some monsters, so I have heard, give experience of over 400. This city is also the first to include weather effects. Monsters, or you, can get buffed by the weather (I.E. windy weather will make you and monsters move faster.) The more harsh the weather, the more increased the buff is. In the main town, someone will always have the weather and it's severity. There a several new pots introduced here, all weather based (Note: Weather will stack on these pots.)
Tornado Pot: Increased Attack by 25 for 20 minutes-Cost 150k Each.
Lightning Pot: Increased Magic Attack by 55 for 20 minutes-Cost 150k each.
Wind Pot: Increased Speed by 30 for 20 minutes-100k each.
Rain Pot: Increased Avoidability by 30 for 20 minutes-100k each.
Hurricane Pot: Increased Attack, Speed, and Magical Attack by 50 for 30 minutes-500k each.
Volcanic Pot: Increased Fire Base Attacks-50k Each
Hail Pot: Increased Ice Base attacks-50k each.
Lastly, a new type of skill can be obtained here: The Geomancer. This skill attacks based on the elements around you. Like most magical attacks, the Geomancer Attack has a base attack. The skill has one level, and does a base attack of 300%. An example would be, in Aqua, you'd use a water based attack. The quest to obtain the skill requires you pay 50m, and obtain several hard-to-find items. This skill is useful, especially to the beginners.
-Note, the Volcano is a non-accessible area.
PQs-
Too many PQs in other places, so none here.
Monsters-
Monsters are all fores based creatures. The Geostone, a monster based just outside of the town, is a stone based monster. The monsters are like the Geomancer skill, and they depend on the area. You could say the town is a Geomancer town, full of Geomancers. Even the monsters aquire the townsfolk personality.
There is one boss, named Geoforted. The boss is based on the Geomancer that formed the city of Forted. Like regular characters, Geoforted can buff himself, and the weather helps stack it. He has attacks based on the weather. Also, he is found at a map called, "Tranquil Lake." Unfortunately, this area has a little bit of all the types of land. So, in short, he can use a variety of geomany attacks, which are incredibly strong. The notable item he drops is called the Geomancer's Hat, which adds 5 weapon attack and 5 magic Attack. He is level 130, and usually a party is required to take him down, as he has a total of 1.2b HP. Like Zakum Helmets, these hats can be sold and are untradable.
Storyline-
Back when Kesko was first formed, one person, named Forted, was studying talismans. He learned of the magic of moving earth, called Geomancy. He was fascinated by this, and hated the laws of Kesko. He eventually became a refugee, and fled off to a nearby forest. Using the powers he studied, he was able to create a city, based on all the elements around him. He sealed off the city from the outside world by creating a cave.
Eventually, people became smart enough to travel through the cave, and eventually found the city. When it was found, Forted fled to the Tranquil Lake and hides there to date. The city became modernized, but to keep to the tradition, the people that reside there have all become geomancers. Lately, they have noticed funky weather going on, and have let outsiders come in to help with their needs. These outsiders must pass a special test, to prove their strength, in order to be able to enter. As a reward for their deeds, they are granted a special skill.
Some chosen ones are asked to defeat the dreaded Geoforted, who was once Forted. Geoforted had become so obssessed with geomancy, that he even studied it in refuge. He had become the heart of the lake, and almost every element made up him. His arms were water, his chest steely, his legs iron ore, and his head is a conglomorate of metals. He is one to be feared.
Forted is an unusual city at that, but once explored, your rewards will be great.
I may continue to update this based on my feedback. Any feedback is appreciated.
