View Full Version : Your favorite anime?
Thought I'd start something like this. Everyone has their favorites, and if you can't pick one, pick all that apply!
My absolute favorite would have to be -AIR-, closely followed by sola and Clannad.
H20 ~Footprints in the Sand~ was actually a really good one as well.

Fushigi Yuugi is by far my favorite anime. It's one of very very few which I prefer to watch with the English voice actors. Kenshin is another which I prefer English, though I haven't completed that anime. I also found Ranma 1/2 to be better in English--and it's always good for some laughs :D
I really enjoyed Full Metal Alchemist as well :]

Air was good and I loved it. Its probably my all time favorite.
I couldnt get into H20~Footprints in the Sand (even though I love the poem).. I got through 2 episodes and couldnt get myself to finish it.
I dont watch any animes but my top 3 would look something like this:
1. Air
2. FMA
3. Tsubasa OVA (read the manga, didnt watch the anime/movie)
What Im watching now that I like: Geass R2, VK, Macross, Bleach, D. Grayman (in no specific order other than me liking Geass better than the others).
I have a short attention span for animes so I dont really watch them to the end a lot of the times, even when I like em, lol l=X

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Quite thought provoking. Not many people would seem to agree though. Gundam 00 was something recent that I loved. Besides that... Would a movie count? 5 Centimeters Per Second is pretty amazing.
I don't really watch all that much since it's difficult to find the time (to download/stream, and then watch).

NGE was okay IMO, but it seems overhyped.
It did have a lot of thought and such, but I guess I really didn't like the ending.
(I believe that's the only anime w/ mechs that I watched. I'm not a fan of action / mech / future type stuff. I guess I'm more into Drama / Life type things. =P)

I'll be honest, although I haven't noticed if an English version has been released yet, I rather like D. Gray-man, manga and anime. FMA was pretty good too.
Edit: almost forgot about Fooly Cooly too.

Not a lot of people liked the ending.
Your other post reminded me, Hayate no Gotoku! is pretty great too. One of the funniest things I've ever watched. Can't wait for season two.
If you're into Drama/Life type things, watch 5 Centimeters Per Second if you haven't already. You'll be left speechless.

Yeah, Hayate was awesome when it was coming out every week. I hate it when series end. I check for the next episode, but then I remember it's over. Back when it came out, it seemed it'd go on forever. I don't watch long animes like Bleach and Naruto. I can't stand it when an anime goes on forever.
5 Centimeters per Second? Never heard of that one. I'll download it tonight and watch it tommorrow. I need stuff to watch while I wait for some other series to come out (again).

It's a good movie (63 Minutes). You'll probably need a box of tissues for it though.

Cowboy Bebop is like the perfect anime.
Others I like are .hack//Sign, Evangelion, Chobits, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note, and Code Geass. I also love most all of the anime adapted from CLAMP works.

For me, it was only a good movie because of the animation. The plot was a bit too slow for my liking sadly though the storyline was pretty nice.

Since you were talking about the slice of life type of animes I rememberd Honey and Clover. I loved that series. ;-;

Not sure what my all time favorite could be.. Paprika? Mind Game? Who knows....

Picking a favorite for me is near impossible. Those that round the top of the list...
One Piece
Eureka seveN
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Black Lagoon
Azumanga Daioh
Welcome to the NHK!
I didn't think 5 Centimeters per Second was THAT sad. It was touching and a bit depressing, but I don't think I shed a single tear over it.
Dunno why School Rumble is popular x_o I thought it was one of the worst comedy anime I had ever seen. There's a point when reusing the same god damn joke to keep the entire anime running starts to get unbelievably old and contrived.

I agree with Issac, I love CLAMP anime alot as well. CCS, Chobits, xxxHolic, Tsubasa, all great anime. And their manga is great as well, I love their artstyle.
Back on topic, my favorite anime is easily Last Exile. I love the story, the characters, the setting, everything about it. I can watch that anime over and over again and again. Other than that, I like alot of the popular ones, FMA, Ouran, and R.O.D, although i don't know if it's one of the popular ones.
Kenshin, Ai Yori Aoshi, Midori no Hibi (Midori Days)
and something that's related to MS and it's drama:

I really liked Claymore.
Haven't watched any animes in months though.
I see some good series on some of your lists.
I'm honestly not a fan on CLAMP anime, but I guess it's just my taste of anime. I've heard some good things about them.
Also, thanks for some of the suggestions. (Although this wasn't a suggestion topic, I wanted to watch some that were recomended) I've watched / downloaded some of them and they're pretty good. I don't know if I'm a good person to ask if one is good or not though. I'm easily entertained and I generally never stop in the middle of a series.

Indeed, KyoAni is overhyped. I really like their animation style, but really the only reason I like KyoAni's work is because they use Key's work.
I don't understand most of the Haruhi / Lucky Star craze. I watched the anime, but I didn't find them so appealing that everyone rants about them.

Overhyped... maybe, I think they just have a really rabid fanbase. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is certainly different, but I prefer the light novels. The characters are slightly different, and I think it's better in a medium that allows you to visualize more of the things it expresses.
Lucky Star was decent, I disliked the fact that more than half of it was a Haruhi-mercial, which reeked of KyoAni kissing their own ass. Doesn't deserve a lot of the flak it receives from the utterly horrible first few episodes, but doesn't really warrant much of the "OMG BEST ANIMU EVARRRRRR"
@Jean: Wtf. You liked Kai more than the original? Orite, more Rika. lololol.
I never see Kino's Journey on these kinds of threads. I don't think many people have seen it, which is a real shame. Every episode is a great short story satire of human nature and it just drips with irony.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan was quite good, gave everyone their testosterone powered mecha animu for a while. The plot honestly got quite drab. Fight big dude first time, lose, get motivational "BELIEVE IN ME WHO BELIEVES IN YOU" speech, fight bad guy, get wtf big mecha, start all over again.
Simon was just fucking annoying as an emo bitch.
Although, it does have the record for one of the few anime
to have a main character killed off fairly early in the series - and actually stay dead, none of that shit with Goku

@Jean: Wtf. You liked Kai more than the original? Orite, more Rika. lololol.
How could you say maybe to them being over hyped? You and I both know there are way more animes that should be getting more attention but aren't. Look at Seto no Hanayome, [Zoku] Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, even NHK ni Youkoso! as far as comedies go, since I don't quite understand the romantic tension in those drama things like Air, Kanon, or Clannad. At least Nana was popular....
Haruhi was definitely over hyped, maybe not over rated if you didn't find it boring. I really hate how a majority of people rabu rabu Hirano Aya because she was Haruhi. There are so many other newer seiyuus that deserve more attention. And no, I'm not bashing her acting, since it's decent. I just thought Minorin was the better one. Hey, at least she can sing live, too. Ugh.
Think of the KyoAni fanbase as the Type-Moon fanbase, olol.
AND YES SEAN, IT WAS TOTALLY BECAUSE I GOT MORE NIPAA~
Really though, not just because there was more nipaa~ and the added auauau, I like the art style more in the second season, how my questions were answered, how the mystery was solved, and how they had a happy ending. I'm sure I'll like the answer arcs of Umineko no Naku Koro ni more than the question ones as well because of this.
I can't be that weird for liking the answers more than the questions, can I?
Zaotsu
2008-07-15, 11:56 AM
Yeah, I meant overrated, stop making me think so much!
I actually prefer the question arcs more. I think its much more interesting that they leave things up to you to figure out. It adds a sense of mystery and uncertainty that makes it more thrilling. (Even though I hate anime with super open endings)
It's like... the reason for everything sorta wears out the mystery / horror part of the anime. Sorta like how the monster in your closet is scary until you finally figure out "Ohay it was just my clothes. lololol". Then again, maybe I just hated Miyo with an undying passion (except for the one scene when she is all "I CAN GO IN HERE? REALLY? IN HERE? REALLYYYYYYY?
Not that Kai was bad in any way, or that the answer arcs were bad, but I merely preferred the questions more.

Really I cannot decide, I read three of my favorite manga simultaneously:
Naruto, One Piece and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Also I watch all three anime as well and all of them are my favorites. To my opinion, the manga explains more than anime.
Here are my favorites (from top to bottom with the top being my most favorite):
One Piece
Naruto
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bleach
Scrapped Princess
Rurouni Kenshin
School Rumble
Love Hina
DBZ
I tend to enjoy fantasy or adventure anime/manga

Gantz being on the list is a funny story. As I'm watching kannagi, i'm starting to like it more and more. The show is hilarious. Nagi is just too damn funny lol. Comedy animes where the shy guy is getting hit on by all the girls is funny to me. That's why I like To-Love Ru and Sekirei. Ouran High School Host Club was pretty funny too even though it's opposite (girl getting hit on by the guys).

I don't have any order, these are just the animes I really like:
Death Note, D.Gray-Man, Code Geass, Claymore, Chrono Crusade and Berserk.
If you're into Drama/Life type things, watch 5 Centimeters Per Second if you haven't already. You'll be left speechless.
5 Centimeters Per Second has been the best for me since it's realistic and all. The drama was not overly done, but simple enough for everyone to be able to feel and relate to. And yes, you'll need a box of tissues for the grand finale. (Plus the scenery and animation is awesome. So are the piano pieces and the theme song.) :')
I've got to say though, AIR kinda lacked for me in the first arc. It was not till the last one did I cry and bawl my eyes out. The mother scene was touching. ;~;
