View Full Version : Pirate Release Speculation

Speculation has a "love-hate" relationship with people, you can either sit around speculating, intelligently or just say, "Lets wait for whenever they release it." I however love to speculate, and love so see what other people post. From their ideas to how they refute certain things others speculate.

So, I decided to start this thread. We we can all sit here and speculate the release of this new, interesting class or refute each others ideas with your own. Sounds like a good time, right?

Okay, let me get things started.

----------------------------------------
It started on June 12th, GMS Tespia just went live. Most people couldn't get in, but it was open for extraction. And that's exactly want happened. Fiel worked on an amazing thread posted on Sleepywood with everything added into GMST. We got over 120 MB's of new data! What could all this mean? Well, this was the first appearance of Pirate Data to our version, and most of us are excited.

So, we went along, waiting for the dreaded 25 hour Patch to end. If seems that after the patch, there was a new encryption. That did stop Fiel, he went along doing what he likes and posted his results shortly after. Most of us were extremely happen with the results of the longest patch we've ever had. We have most of the Pirate data! Or, at least a good majority of it. We have Skills, Guns, Knuckles, Armor. I'm not exactly sure, but I believe there were some maps added. Granted, some of the stuff isn't translated, but still! That's amazing, all this stuff in one patch. Most of us were thinking:

Is Nexon getting ready for something?

Most of us just passed thing, didn't think anything of it. They used the fact that we had Leafre in our data since what? Ver. .35? No, this didn't convince me. I see these two things as completely different. Here's what I was thinking:

Leafre
What is this place? Most of us know it as 4th Job Advancement area. That's exactly what it is. 4th job is level 120, this can only cater to the small group of people that actually were 120+. It took me 1 and a half years to reach 120. That's a long time for most people, this area wasn't meant for the whole community of Maple. This is probably the main reason we didn't get Leafre and 4th job until January of this year.

Pirates
What exactly is this? It's a brand new freaking class. This can cater to everyone that plays MapleStory. EVERYONE. It's not just for level 100+ people to train on, or another level 20-30 Party quest. This gets the people that have been playing Maple for the past 2-3 years excited that we're getting something such as a new class. Also, for new users, that's just 1 more class to chose from. As far as I see it, Nexon has NO REASON to delay an update such as this. You do not need to be a certain level to do this, or any sort of experience playing the Game. It's simply a new adventure into another class. Amazing.

That's simply my idea, in general, on the whole Pirate release. And I think it's pretty good. But, by no means is this the end of everything. We've always wondered, as a community: "Is this a hint?", as we stare at the things posted on the Nexon website and within their forums.

May 28th-
The first thing that could be considered a hint would be this:
http://msfile.nexon.net/Uploaded/Img/common/post/20080528/080528_bug_01.jpg
Oh, look. A Pirate NPC. And yeah, isn't that the Bird from the Gunslinger job? It definitely is.

June 20th-
The day of the patch, this was posted and not many thought of it. I did though:
http://msfile.nexon.net/Uploaded/Img/common/post/20080620/080619_summer_01.jpg
Hay!! Look! It's the 4th job, Captain summon. Also, as Isaac said, it's a Map Object in Nautilus port. Hm, could this be another hint?

June 26th-
And finally, the most recent:
http://msfile.nexon.net/Uploaded/Img/common/post/20080625/080625_cashshop_01.jpg
That happens to be the dock for the entrance of Nautilus port.

Added:
June 20th-
Okay, lets take a look at this since I forgot:
http://msfile.nexon.net/Uploaded/Img/common/post/20080620/080619_update05.gif
If you look carefully, you can see that Pirate, Viper and Captain at added into the Job selection window. Really, could this be a mistake? Or another hint(lol). Who knows, but it's just something to add onto the growing speculation.

Wonderful, 3 different event ads with Pirate related Sprites in them. What could this mean? Most of use used this defense, as did I when the first Ad was posted on May 28th:

"Nexon has access to multitudes of sprites and pictures from Slimes to a Fork on a Stick. Why not use them if it fits the theme of the event? Right, the Telescope the NPC is using definitely fits into the theme"

Alright, I said the same thing when this was released, and 5 million threads poped up speculating the release of Pirates, so many of us brushed this off. But, I was thinking. Pirates have been released for awhile, why just start using the Sprites/Objects now? Then I thought legal reason. Yeah, that sounds completely reasonable. So, I brushed off this first thing like I said.

Then, what do you know. June 20th we get another event ad, and it has the Octopus in it. Sweet, another hint? I'm not sure, It does fit the theme quite well. But still. Maybe another hint, right?

Fine, we get the most recent event ad, which is June 26th's. Alright! Cool, some Nautilus map tiles from the entrance. Kick ass, another hint! This had me convinced, maybe they were hinting to the -close- Pirate release they had in store for us.

Now, some of you are probably thinking, "Well, they're just sprites/objects, and that's it. They did just pick something that went along well with the theme". Alright, cool.

But picture this. You're working for Nexon, to make these ads, and each ad has a set list of guidelines. Right? Sounds reasonable. Well say one of the guidelines was to use some Pirate-Related sprites. Okay, this whole theory of hints becomes plausible. At least, my whole opinion on the thing.
--------------------------------------------------

Anyways, if you sat around to read all of this, it's my take on Pirates. And I think it's a pretty darn good one. Now, I invite you all to give me your opinions. Agree and give me some sweet opinions or refute what I have and explain your ideas. I'm really interested in seeing what others think about this subject. Including yours, Fiel. Also, if I missed anything, feel free to add whatever you had in mind, I'll update my first post. :3

Thanks for your time

-Looks up- Wow, I typed a lot.

EDIT: Added a event ad that I forgot - Party search Shows Pirate jobs, thanks to Trinity for the reminder

--------------------------------------------------

Could we receive Pirates before Magatia? Sure, We don't really need it.

Magatia, Nautilus, and Elin Forest all have a common theme in that they deal with an enigmatic character in Ossyria's past, the Black Magician. The Black Magician ruled Ossyria from Magatia, is being hunted down by the Pirates of the Nautilus, and is responsible for poisoning the Elin Forest during the first expedition to Victoria Island.

However, you don't discover the tale of the Black Magician in Magatia until a very high level for that town (and by this I mean 60-80 area, I don't know exactly when.) The main quests dealing with the Black Magician in Nautilus port are low level (level 20 something), so a character going through the game for the first time would do the Nautilus quests first anyway. For a reasonably high level player, they would encounter the storyline in the order of Magatia >Nautilus>Elin, while a player who started after all this content was released would encounter it in the order Nautilus > Elin >Magatia. Because of this, while the towns are related, either one can be released first without impacting the tale conveyed in the stories.

Well well well, lookie here. The two Pirate Characters. I really don't have much to say at this point. This is the 5th ad they've posted on their Website with Pirate-related Sprites or Pictures. I can seriously believe we will be getting them sooner than we think. Lets just hope for the sake of everything, that I'm right. x_x

It seems like Nexon America has some kind of infatuation with riddles and giving clues. NXJoeW used to try and give us hints and clues all the time about amoria and NLC. Don't forget though, that they had showa "clues" showing up like 5 months before showa actually showed up.

I expect Pirates either this Christmas, next summer, or on some date that relates to Pirates. :/
To get the data in 56-57 patch, and to have them installed in 58 or 59 would be a new record for Nexon, which seems unlikely.

I think we'll get them before the end of this year. Possibly in August or whenever school starts, it'll be a perfect way to get kids' attention.

What I would like is if Nexon first released the equipment/weapons before the class. Maybe a patch earlier.

The thing is, we're most likely getting a huge NLC update next patch. If we look at what we got last patch, it was a HUGE one. Then to be getting something Masteria Related next would also be huge. So, if July's Patch is going to be Masteria, and some of us think we're getting it at Patch .60, or before. That leaves:

August - Pirates/Filler Patch Or
September - Pirates

The thing I see wrong with is is they're releasing a TON of stuff, all in a 4 month time frame (A lot of UI updates, Masteria and Pirates). I mean, maybe that's the direction they're going in now, because they have been stepping up to the plate. I mean, it all seems completely plausible.

Then there's the fact that we have 3 more months of updates left, October, November and December. All major holiday months, so we could just get crappy recycled events. And maybe even something like Coka Cola Land for December?

Who knows, anything is possible. To tired to keep posting, my brain is running on E. x_x

I personally think that the Pirate job will come out in December for Maple's Holiday gift...

I'm probably off here, but here's another thing I'm taking seriously when considering the release of pirates.

"So, we're proud to welcome you to the first expansion in the Chronicles of Masteria, Crimsonwood Keep. The symbol you're looking at up there is the official seal. This should give a few indications as well..."

After looking at the seal for a while I noticed it gave the weapons for a few of our ms classes... including what looks like, in the center of the emblem, a knuckle. So, my guess is maybe nexon mixed it up a bit and put pirates in C-wood Keep.

Before:
http://i38.tinypic.com/2u4rju9.jpg

After: (excuse my pro ms paint skills plox)
http://i33.tinypic.com/r9pz7a.jpg

Also, after seeing the Q&A with nxprose, I'm either thinking that gunslingers will be replaced by a ninja class (anyone else notice that only infighter jobs *were* in and soon taken out of the party search function?), or that the majority of enemies will be ninja-related.

Just something that I saw and thought was interesting... only speculation still. =(

I'm expecting pirates for the second part of summer update. My friend thinks that we're gonna need to wait until October since MapleSEA is just getting it. Thing is, it isnt based on releases. As far as i know (and am concerned) they use the same language in SEA. I'm not really sure. The only difference I've seen is that they have "Ribgol Sword" and "Lozenge Dagger" as opposed to our "Stonetooh Sword" and "Diamond Dagger" :f2: Also I dont think they'll mess with the guns like they did for Showa. :f3:

That would be ideal in my eyes, however ChinaMS and TaiwanMS have proven that it's not necessary. I hope we get the pre-release events that they got before pirates are released in GMS.

Oh, and that map that looks like the entrance to Nautilus, it was also used as the Summer Fishing Event area in KMS. Not surprising it would be used for summer purposes in GMS too.

A friend of mine came up with something interesting the other day. Quote from another forum:

Perhaps we need to be more subtle...

Seeing as how Showa was initially scheduled to be launched on Showa Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Showa_Day)...

Someone should ask, "Do you have anything special planned for September 19th?"
That is, Talk Like A Pirate Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_Like_A_Pirate_Day).

That is when I personally suspect they plan to release Pirates.

Wow that post totally led me to Pastafarianism, and I spent like an hour on Wikipedia x.x

I doubt Nexon would really pay much attention to such a...minor, barely celebrated holiday, but I'm ok with a September release date. Honestly, I don't see them cramming Pirates into a Holiday event, so if it's not at the end of the summer/slightly afterward, then I'm not expecting them till '09.

Well, the whole thing on Pirates being released in .60 as a Landmark patch looks to me like out of the question. It's to close. Our next patch is obviously Crimsonwood Keep, and I can bet $20 we'll get a bug patch, either before or after it to fix some issues. Although, It's still possible, but not probable.

Towards the CK Logo, as much as people might think it's a Knuckle, it's not. At least, this is what I assume. If you look at a scarab (Level 70 Claw) It's similar to it, being as there's a pointed blade on top of it. If you look at this, it's more like the end of a Trident on top of it. Almost the same concept, just tweaked a little bit.

Loose, that's a pretty cool concept the only thing is, Sept. 19th is a Friday. Patches are almost always Wednesday nights going into Thursday morning. Although, it could happen. I would love to see them released in September. Seems like the perfect time.

Anyways, does anyone have any information about Pirates being released before Magatia? Weren't there certain quests retaining to Magatia that had to deal with Pirates? What did they do to change this? Any info is nice.

.60 patch is impossible cause it's a NLC patch. i would assume Mostly for December Holidays because Nexon tends to put a lot of focus on the Holiday patches...

Oh, that doesn't necessarily mean we won't get a dagger. I think they were just trying to design a really cool Logo for CK, and just picked a weapon to represent each class. Lol, Imagine them trying to fit 1 of each weapon into a logo. It'd be super cluttered. Anyways, each weapon could have some sort of backstory to it, for example maybe they were the weapons of choice of the groups in Crimsonwood.

I've been believing that it was a Knuckle, because I thought the spikes were a bit too long for a claw. Then, I remembered the Craven and Dragon "Sleve".

I've been seeing it as a knuckle as well and the bottom part being a dagger, but i guess we'll just have to see.

I laughed at Whats pirates? "A brand new freaking class!"

Uhm I would estimate...

End of november/december-ish..

Or beginning of January...

They kicked this January off with 4th, now they'll kick 2009 off with pirates<3

Good hints though never spotted em out except the party hp thing.

My guess is in 3 patches (hopefully).

v. 0.59: Masteria expansion (Crimsonwood Keep, Ninja Clan Area)
v. 0.60: fixing some bugs and adding Cash Shop stuff
v. 0.61: Pirates and Nautilus Port :f2:

3 patches just in time for Talk Like a Pirate Day too!

I think we'll get them before the end of this year. Possibly in August or whenever school starts, it'll be a perfect way to get kids' attention.

What I would like is if Nexon first released the equipment/weapons before the class. Maybe a patch earlier.

That would be LOLLER--awesome.
Seeing people horde Items and scrolls.
Using the Scroll skill to make +7 30ed items before the class even comes out.

It would be really nice if Nexon released the Pirate Equips and Scrolls at least a patch before. I sure as hell wouldn't like to spend 20m on Level 70 equips just because they're rare.

Nexon teases more!

but then i look into the new cs items after the server check, and the stoplight hat is a clear hint to masteria expansions. >.<

That's cause, NXProse already told us we were getting Crimsonwood Keep next patch, but it's possible we can get Pirates as an End of Summer BASH!

Added the new Ad into the first post. Guys, I think we'll be getting them soon. Otherwise, Nexon is being an asshole and just poking fun at how badly we want them. T_T

Yeah I know, but I'm pretty sure we're getting Masteria expansion first though (I hope so too).

Nice evidence you got there, I hope we get pirates by the end of this year. I'm guessing it would be released after the halloween patch.

I would like it to come during the summer. Because of school. Only reason why theyd like it to come out during school is so people dont rush it.

hmm, with the logo they didnt put any daggers D: makes me sad:f4:
They did, look at the blade coming out of the wristband. It would be mean to leave out thieves:f4:

What if they did release Pirates during Halloween patch?

Then they could put *new* pirate Cash shop items for a low low price of 5k nx so everyone can be a pirate too?

Ionno, dress up as a pirate would be nice to have with a release of pirates? 0_o

Pirates are not involved in Crimsonwood. Period. It's a claw, that's the end of the discussion. I can see why you might think it looks knuckle-ish, but it's a claw.
