So I just got to 4th and I've been wondering if I should max sudden strike or overswing first. Right now I'm training at lhc and Toss is looking to be ridiculously good. But I also get the feeling that if I'm training on something that can be lifted, toss has little use. So suggestions?

early investment into freeze standing (lvl 6 for 60 sec duration and 50% stance) might also be useful that way while you're spamming toss you don't get KBd out of range. As for sudden strike vs OS. I got OS to lvl 20 and started stance+sudden strike now. I also have lvl 5 final blow so i could pass the mastery book.

10 Sudden Strike + Final Toss > 30 Over Swing + 30 Final Blow
If you're training on something that can be lifted, use Rolling Spin after tossing it to do damage, or whatever low level Over Swing you have to leech health back. Some Freeze Standing may be a good idea for keeping in range with Final Toss. I recommend High Mastery as of now, since I don't actually see a use for training with Overswing. Its only use for me so far is to leech health back faster since it's actually three different skills instead of one and Toss has difficulty hitting a monster that's been lifted.
Rolling Spin theoretically isn't as strong as maxed Overswing, but it's still strong enough compared to the efficiency of using Overswing (1.26s vs 2.04s base speed when using with Final Toss). Depending on how strong you are, Overswing's Triple Swing can end up overkilling a lot, or Rolling Spin's combo gain can let you Fenrir/Judgement a lot more often.

i leave sudden strike at lvl 1, spamming os+fb is so much easier

I don't find spamming final toss (lol almost said final cross... Tales of the Abyss) all that difficult. Ran into an empty crock map with a ton of crocs and proceeded to rush em and FT the group. So much damage/numbers xD. I'm working on maxing both Sudden Strike and Freeze standing since not being pushed back is stupidly important when spamming FT. I'll end up attacking the air three times(ish) after getting pushed out of range even though I've stopped pushing the buttons almost instantly. Gotta love attacks getting placed in a queue.

Final toss spam is really easy to execute, you just roll you finger over the up and down key while mashing your attack key.

yep and it sometimes uses judgement, i only use toss when it has more than 8 mobs

I just have my hand tilted and press both at the same time. The tilted part makes it so that i always press down first. Then I just spam the hell out of both hands. I need to get it a permanent mp pouch, but I can even hit the mp button and go back to spamming without any break in the spamming due to the attack queue. :3
Edit: Granted after after the combo reaches 400+ I sometimes screw it up and use judgement. But I've been getting better about it.

Is mixing Judgement and Toss not a good idea?

Well, Judgement kinda kills your combo. It's good as a finisher though if you know you're gonna kill stuff when you use it. My friend's Judgement is ridiculous... deals like 400k+ >> Mine's barely at 150k ish. We're the same level. lol.
Anyways, I'd rather keep the combo count+crit rate than use judgement, which takes a bit, can cause mobs to get out of being pinned, and makes you either have to rebuild the counter and waste dps, or use combo up, and waste time since you can't move/attack for a bit.
As a finisher though, go right on ahead.
