Hey all. I'm kind of at my last straw with these issues, as I have done all that I possibly can to fix them, and still there's a major problem.
My computer is a Toshiba laptop, with a Duo core processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and connects to the internet via a D-Link Router that connects through a Motorola cable modem. Our ISP is Comcast, so we SHOULD have the fastest internet service out there, as they claim. However for the past two years we've been having severe internet problems, where our modem will connect to the internet, but for only 5 minutes at a time. It is completely random whether or not the modem will disconnect from the internet, and it's unknown why it does so.
To fix this problem, I tried to address anything and everything that might go wrong. My laptop personally is quite clean, with fully operational wireless connectivity and enough RAM to experience no lag at Zakum, no matter what point in the battle I'm at. However today at Horntail, after preparing my household network for the battle by making sure my laptop was the only one using the internet at the time, I was in the middle of the 1st prelim head when I disconnected. The entire battle had gone fine: we got in, I wasn't lagging at all, and my game was running perfectly 100%. Then for no apparent reason the communication between my computer and the internet ceased; the connection status showed 5 bar signal strength, proving that the issue was not in the router. All 4 lights on the modem even showed that the network was connected to the internet. Yet for some strange reason, connection ceased between my computer and the internet, and 10 seconds later I received the "Unable to connect to game server" pop up on the MS login screen.
*************************
I'm at a loss for what to do. We'll call Comcast, power cycle the modem, they say the connection looks fine from where they are, and then 30 seconds later it'll crash, and when we call them again they're like "oh yea the modem's not connected. Have you tried power cycling?" It's clearly NOT fucking power cycling.
Modem's fine; just bought a new one YESTERDAY. Router is proven to be fine. My computer is fine and clean. Yet SOMEHOW the network modem continues to disconnect, and no one knows what to do. Does anyone have ANY idea what may be causing such connection issues?
P.S.: The ONLY idea I have is that, when a technician came to the house a year ago with the problem, they said the wiring throughout the house was 20 years old, and wasn't as thick as the wires are now for internet. Plus the wires were stretched all throughout the house, rather than being right at the computer. Is it possible, those of you who understand wiring better than I do, that 20 year old, thin wires could cause such connection issues?
Thanks for your help; sorry for the wall of text!
