Hello there, I'm sure most of you don't know me; I am Throes, an epic failure of an animation major (art school beat the creativity and desire out of me) and I'm hoping to get back into the habit of drawing on a regular basis (though I have since changed my major to nursing; just like a stereotypical filipino would.) My brother recently got a scanner, and I have a lot of free time during my lectures so I figured I would share my drawings with the rest of the (semi-inactive) inhabitants of the Open Canvas section here at southperry.net. Hooray!

Fuzzbuns actually took it while they left it alone in his room. The rest of the story is about them chasing Fuzzbuns all over the world trying to get it back. Hijinks throughout.

The ones in the notebook, fabulous!

The coloring on the others is good, especially the hair on the second colored one. The only thing I don't really like is that, to me, the forehead is a bit too big.

Nonetheless, they're all awesome and keep 'em coming.

These drawings are really good! Very good coloring work on the hair for both of the colored drawings. I have to say, I thought the ones on the notebook were computer generated; it's kind of hard to believe that someone drew that with pencil.

Nobody seems to complain about Mapleboobs when they look at Loose's drawings. :cool: And yes, I think some of my lines were off when I brought the second drawing into Photoshop. It's all good though, I'm just looking for practice at this point. :glitter:

A few overalls for females do. Level 15/35 Warriors and Level 35 Thief (like you said) are the most noticable. There are a few others you could argue do too.

Great drawings, somewhat prefer the ones in the notebook.

I'll be honest with you. In my quest to find the best and most epic music and eye candy (excluding pron, I think it's disgusting, even at age 19), I've seen quite a bit, so my bar is pretty high (and my artistic endeavor can almost never satisfy it >.<). Your first drawing is quite nice, and I liked it. The sad angel sketch also was decent. The rest of it didn't strike much of a chord, either because they're just colored versions or they're... well...

Good luck xD Each post can have unlimited pictures, and 200k characters. To put that into perspective, my Paladin guide submitted for the event hits over 400k characters upon v1.00!

If you can succeed in your goal, then that will be a very impressive feat.

Yarly. Music is a lot like that (I play the Piano and used to play the Violin). Practice makes perfect!

If it's any consolation to you, the image URLs count towards the character count I believe, but the BBCodes don't.

I would be especially interested in seeing the evolution of an artist too xD

I really like the first and last image, the facial expressions and poses are kick ass. The only drawing I didn't really like was the Dragon one. At first, it looked like a lobster monster thing and the hair of the girl riding it looks too plain.

Haven't updated the thread for almost two months now, and I blame finals + holidays + lack of inspiration + a whole month of quality time with my fiance.

Classes are starting up again though, so I'll most likely be doodling again during my lectures (anatomy lectures make me cry from boredom.) Expect more frequent updates. Hopefully. :eek:

Yeah, I struggled with getting the perspective to look right on her legs. But overall I think it's one of my favorites in this thread. :chin:

And yes, for the most part I draw with pencil. If I'm taking notes in class and happen to have a pen though, I'll draw with that too.

[edit:] All the drawings in the nostalgia spoiler were drawn with pencil, then inked afterwards. I'd do that more often if I had a decent inking pen. >__>

It's just cleaning up the drawing then tracing very carefully with the pen. I literally haven't used them in years, so I was pleasantly surprised that the ink hadn't dried out.

As for the hair, um... here's what I did. (Because I'm bored and don't want to go to sleep yet... and done crudely in Photoshop lol.)

Teehee, so I've gotten caught up training a new gunslinger, so I haven't been working on my little project at all this week. Apologies.

Here's a pencil test of my current progress; I still have to change a lot of details (the right arm looks off to me) but so far, it feels really good to be animating again, even something as simple as this. And no, I did not trace anything. The final animation is hopefully going to move a lot smoother once I stick it in flash. :glitter:

The right shoulder / upper arm looks odd. I don't know how to describe it. It should connect a bit lower to the shoulder right? Since we're looking at the character head on.
The left arm looks like its missing something. Maybe a bit off in perspective?
The bottom gun in her left hand is tilted ->, so the right barrels should be more covered than the left ones
The upper gun and her hand look 2D
Her hair accessory looks a bit 2D
I'm not too certain about shading, but shouldn't there be a shadow for her arm / the gun on her shirt / torso / stomach area? Also, I think the little hole / tear in her shirt should be reflected in the shading under it, assuming the light is coming from the top left.

Straps connecting to the pants aren't exactly well-placed. Looks like one is a tad left over her vagina. Either that, or the bellybutton is misplaced.
Gun pointing towards us looks, eh, destroyed. Points slightly to the right for us, while the rest of the gun points straightforward:

Just some things I noticed in the coloring of bang coulai:
- One of the guns has no shading. As well as the straps from the pants.
- Try to make the shading in metal objects have a bigger difference in luminosity.
- Add a lighter tone of shading to the hair, so it ends up with three shades, like the goggles.
- In the hair shading, try doing spikes instead of bumps.

On sassy coulai:
- Nothing. It's outstanding!
- Well, maybe some shading on the shoes. : P

That's it, I don't know if anyone can understand what I just typed, though. : |

So I took that dream with Manda chasing me with a fish to mean that I should get working on this. Opeth PMed me a request for Manda's birthday (that was what like... three weeks ago? :goggle:) so here it is. Got lots of practice with my new tablet!

Thanks a lot for the drawing, Throws. It came out really good. I wasn't expecting the add in of Buttons or the Cat in the Hat reference at all, really nice touch, haha.

Just got around to viewing this thread. Goddamn this stuff's so neat and tidy looking, how do you finish it off like that? All the stuff I do is messy as hell, maybe I should make the effort to clean it up a little but even then it doesn't look right lol.

Some of it just unintentionally gets cleaned up when I scan my drawings, since the lighter pencil strokes don't get picked up. Otherwise it's just erasing the lines I don't like or tracing a drawing in pen and erasing all the pencil marks. Nothing special really.

Just a super old version of Photoshop (CS... the original one.) Though I know my stuff would look much cleaner using a vector based program, Photoshop is where my comfort zone begins and ends.

Got a copy of CS4 from my brother-in-law so I think I'll start using that from now on. Don't think it'll make much of a difference in my art though. =P

Shuma is one of the DLC characters for Marvel vs Capcom 3, from the Marvel universe. Not too many people play him in tournaments because he isn't one of the top tier characters, but I think he is just super awesome. I mean really, how can you not love a tentacle monster? :poast:

Question! Do you use a curve tool to do your lineart or do you draw it all by hand(/tablet)? :o

I do my lines by hand (on SAI) but it's annoying getting them to look clean. :I

I use the freeform pen tool in Photoshop. So I guess both? I draw the lines by hand and Photoshop straightens them out/makes them pretty for me. It's very nice.
