At Anime Expo 2008

So I went to the Anime Expo in Los Angeles yesterday and stopped by the nexon booth. They were giving out Mabinogi tote bags (which turned out to be quite helpful for carrying everything) and as I walked up for the first time, they were just finishing their Trivia contest. He said they would ask more questions in 30 minutes, so I went and messed around for a while, then came back; the questions they asked were quite simple: "Who do you go to to advance to warrior?" Advance to Thief?" "Advance to Archer?" (This question, btw, I won a T-shirt and 10k NX on.) Then he asked a question about Mabinogi, and Audition (It was funny because no one could answer them. >_>) and finally started to ask some interesting things:
"What is the newest Continent in MapleStory?" Well, that's Masteria (obviously). The next question was even better:
"What's the name of John Barricade's brother?" I was sort of dumbfounded that they asked this because there's only two places where this is mentioned: Once, during John's NLC quest which a good 90% of us did almost a year ago, and the second in the TCG item description of Subani Ankh. These references to him are also not obvious, and considering the fact that it seems most people flat out ignore everything NPCs have to say, quite rare. I couldn't answer again as I had already answered the earlier question, but I tried to whisper it to my friend. I was a little loud and got caught. :p Still, I waited like 30 seconds before and no one answered. (If you're wondering, my friend later won on the last question, which was asking where you could buy NX cards, but they ran out of shirts. I gave her mine since I didn't plan on wearing it anyway. XD)

What's the significance of this? Well, for one the flash ad that's been popping up everywhere, has a picture of an NPC we all suspect to be Jack Barricade on it. Since the other questions were all so easy, it seems odd why they'd make one be about a random remark made by one NPC two times.

I got lots of pictures but I don't think any were at the nexon booth. Mostly of just people in really cool costumes. If any people want to see those then I'll post them. As a whole it was really fun, even though I could only stay for 5 hours.

I didn't see anyone cosplaying as MapleStory characters, or at least any I could recognize. I did see some people wearing Gaia outfits. They're mostly anime characters and video game characters (Like a group of people playing as the entire cast of Sonic Adventure 2) XD There were two girls at the Nexon booth wearing Mabinogi outfits, but because we don't play that game no one in my group took pics of them.

Cosplay is short for "costume play". It means to dress up and act as a character from an anime/manga/video game/book/etcetera.

Yeah, but there are still people who obstinately refuse to believe that. I'm just piling more evidence on to the stack. Apparently, I missed some of the more interesting questions from previous days (On sleepywood someone said they asked about Holychoras, which is an even more obscure reference!)

Oh yeah, and something else cool is that they were running the MapleStory Anime there (subtitled, not dubbed) all day, so maybe it will be licensed here soon? That's the only way we'll get the Kino pet everyone loves so much.

Uh, he was running around the shops (he may have been working on one of them?) and waving a fan, making big sumo moves. Then that guy with the mallet came out and he was like, grunting over it. It was really weird.

There were two computers with MapleStory there, and they both had demo characters logged in from Guest accounts on them. One was an I/L mage (like level 8x) and the other was a nooby character in HHG1. It was odd because I didn't see any other players, maybe they had them set up to a dedicated server. Either way, no one was spamming Megaphones from the convention.

Well, I can't verify that they were actually at the convention, but a bunch of people with the same format of names (for example ###Class, like 032Priest) were SPAMMING smegas, saying they were at the anime con with guest characters that had free smegas <_<

I watched them for like 10 minutes, they never went into the CS or anything... One of the characters was wandering around in Orbis Tower and the other at HHG, but no one was there. Oh well, either way the convention ends today so it'll be over with soon.

a new years ago there was an awesome guy who went by the name of Man-faye

he was a middle ages hairy, white man who dressed up as faye valentine from cowboy bebop, he was kicked out the first time, but went to court over it and actually they let him keep the costume, as long as the costume covered the nipply parts 90% the time its acceptable, tis goes for alot of cons.

About the laptops: It was a drawing, they asked for Email, full name, and Nexon ID. I guess they'll contact the winners or announce it on the site or something. It wasn't for trivia.

I'm actually out of town right now, across the country from where I really live. I came here to meet someone I've known on Maple for 2 years now :p We went to the convention together with some of her friends (which was still a 4 hour drive). It was a happy coincidence that the convention was going on while I was out here.
