I'm not sure if this is the best place for it, but it's the most fitting place I can think of to put this. And I don't know very much about politics at all (or how to properly use the word "exemption", I bet), so... bear with me.

A bill was recently introduced that is now a "top priority" in Congress. (http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3/text) It is known as H.R.3., or the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act". It is, at least on the surface, meant to restrict the use of government funding to pay for abortions.

There are many problems with this bill. (http://motherjones.com/politics/2011/01/republican-plan-redefine-rape-abortion) The most important, however, have to do with what situations are counted as exemptions from it. Most laws related to restricting government funding paying for abortions include exemptions for pregnancies that result from rape and/or incest as well as pregnancies that endanger the life of the mother. This bill seeks to limit what's actually considered rape or incest. In a pathetic attempt to save money, this bill states that a pregnancy resulting from rape is only an exemption if the rape was deemed "forcible". Not only does this remove the exemption from people who were drugged, drunk, coerced, etc., but in many states there is no such thing as "forcible rape", just "rape" in general. Additionally, pregnancies resulting from incest will not count if the mother is over 18.

Now, as you can see from the title, I'm posting this for a reason. There is currently a campaign on Twitter that is trying to drive up awareness of how horrible this is using the #DearJohn hashtag (http://tigerbeatdown.com/2011/01/29/dearjohn-for-when-boehner-decides-your-rape-just-wasnt-enough/). Please, if you have a Twitter account, support the hell out of the people running this campaign. Even if you're pro-life but believe in exceptions for rape victims, this relates to you. Please spread the word if you can; this needs to get out.

Thank you. :f4:
