Eos
2011-01-07, 10:58 AM
Gauging interest in finding beta testers for feature additions.

Benefits:
Access to the sparkly and spammy content tester subforum Early notice of new features and pending changes The glitz and glamor of secrets

Minimum Requirements:
Be an active member Actually test the features announced in the content tester forum Report any bugs, recommend changes/improvements Not discuss pending changes outside the content testing forum until they're publically announced officially.

If there's sufficient interest Talia will put together an event to recruit and weed down the members.

Hello, i would like to inform that i do not want to be a beta tester.
Not that i wouldn´t like it, but i don´t have that much time and i´m not really someone who posts much anyway.
Hope everything will turn out great though ;D

Fine by me. I've already tested the market stuff out and reported on whatever bugs I found, and I'd have no problem testing whatever other stuff you have planned. overall the market seems much better than when you first implemented it, so I guess that was successful.

Yes, it was stated that if there was too much interest, there would be a contest held to see who would be chosen to test content.

Solarboy
2011-01-07, 10:49 PM
;~; contest?

Of course! There will be criteria to be met in order to be chosen
ie: New users will be chosen.

Now with all seriousness, I hope it's not a REAL contest, more like a "vote for the people who you think deserve to be able to be a tester".

Yeah, what this really needs is some favouritism!

The contest should be...

Read this 7 page essay and find 20 grammatical errors. Then look at these two pictures and circle the differences. Finally, make a video of yourself jumping off a really tall tower. If you survive, you're in.

*thumbs up!*

But really, it shouldn't be too hard and it should be fair to all. Just because one is an active user, it doesn't mean they'll be able to find or report bugs.

Mhm secrets...

OT: I've always wanted to content test something, and while GMST testing would be nice, it's much more time intensive. I'm on this site so much already that testing would be a great thing to look at as well.

You make me giggle Sarah!! Yes, Sarah has a valid point here though, in case you missed her point. This isn't a popularity contest. (if it were, I'd win and that wouldn't be fair lol j/k) We are in need of people who are active and who are capable of finding bugs. It would also be nice to find people who can be constructive about how to make things better/easier/user friendly. So yes, there will be a contest. Just voting for specific people is out of the question.

If people are serious about getting this, I'd imagine that posting a list of glitches/bugs you have reported in the Site Suggestions & Discussion page would be a good indication to whether or not you have the ideal characteristics required for content testing. Rather than going through the effort of creating a test to weed candidates out, you can already choose and select users who have shown to have a knack for these sorts of things. If a test is needed to narrow it down further among those candidates, then by all means, create the test. It just seems that this is the most efficient method. If the content being tested is of a different variety, then I retract my suggestion.

Your theory requires there to have actually been sufficient bugs and issues in productionalized features for an entire population to have been able to report.
Going off submissions like that doesn't tell us who noticed them, only who reported them first.

Beta testing pre-production functionality and features isn't entirely the same. Instead of normal usage showing bugs you're actively trying to break things and record how/why it broke.

Swerve
2011-01-08, 11:10 AM
I thought it would be better to choose individuals who have shown a history of recording/reporting such bugs in the past rather than choosing someone who has no history of such actions. I didn't consider the discrepancy between productionalized and beta. If the difference is quite large, then relying on previous checks would be inappropriate. Thanks for pointing that out Eos.
