Just to clarify, the blue smudging in the background wasn't to be implemented on the forum itself. I have one with no blue smudging, but sent that to simulate the background colour. Since i made that banner without getting the background as a reference, and just to test, had to put some blue color at the backgorund.
Couldn't clarify before because i would reveal that i made that, which was sorta agains't the rules. :o
Tought that site icons could fit the banner itself, but comparing to those, i tend to prefer plain text.
Getting to 3rd place was much better than i expected, waiting to see the winners in context someday now.
Congrats to the winners! :)

Grats you two.
In all honesty, I don't like either
waiting to see the winners in context someday now.
It's already been said a half dozen times none of the submissions were good enough to replace what we have so you shouldn't hold your breath.

I read that already, Eos. I'm not blind.
They weren't good enough to replace, and i said that i was hoping to see those in context. Altough i do know they won't replace the current logo.
It isn't that hard to understand what i wanted to say.
Your english may be failing you then, because "in context" for a banner made to be a specific site's banner would be on the site in the place I've said they're not going to be.
It's not that hard to understand how nonsensical your statement was in those terms.

I still don't get why #18 wasn't accepted.
It was the best one that approached the quality of the current one.

RULES
File size of submitted logo should NOT exceed 60k.
Dimensions should be approximately 105 high and between 385 and 700 wide.

Then again:
Say I design a logo as a sketch on paper and scan it in as an entry.
If its good enough, would there be a possibility for redesigning it digitally?
I'd really like to participate, but I lack the clarity digital paintings bring.
I won't leave anything out as an option. Just because it's not digital doesn't mean it can't be a beautiful piece of work. I didn't post anything in the rules stating it HAD to be done using photoshop or the like. :) Bring it on!!! I'm sure we can figure something out.
That would imply that submission format need not be final intended format (although I suppose a scanned drawing could still be cropped and resized to fit the given requirements).
Not arguing it was wrong to disqualify those submissions since they technically did violate the letter of the rule, just that I think they still fit the spirit of this contest.

Answered your own question there didn't you?

Answered your own question there didn't you?
I didn't ask a question.
I didn't ask a question.
You certainly implied one but your point was irrelevant regardless; The number had to be brought down and the people who failed to meet guidelines were the easiest to throw out.
That is how a contest works after all. Despite what the American entitlement-complex tries to accomplish not everyone can be the winner.

Congratulations to the winners.
Some pretty good designs submitted, I really liked the one without background, Kirov. I think it suits the site better.
It's already been said a half dozen times none of the submissions were good enough to replace what we have so you shouldn't hold your breath.
Shame. I see a couple that look tons better than the current banner.
OH WELL.

That is how a contest works after all. Despite what the American entitlement-complex tries to accomplish not everyone can be the winner.I'm failing to see where a question was even remotely implied within his post. I don't think he said anywhere about people winning, only that their entries shouldn't have been dismissed sheerly on the basis of file size. It could have been resized to fit the parameters somehow, and I'm sure we'd all like to have seen them, especially in the context that a winner has already been decided. No harm in seeing them now.

The only purpose is not dismissing someone from the first round would be to give them a chance to win.
If they couldn't be bothered to keep to the rules they didn't deserve the opportunity to win.
The contest was to submit an actual banner, not a screen shot of the banner you couldve or would've submitted in use. That made those unable to be tested in the same manner as other submissions, therefore they were disqualified in favor of people who did as instructed. All the colored backgrounds were also summarily discarded too since they stood out like sore thumbs on any background but the default and could therefore not stand on their own merits against more flexible ones.
I'm sure we'd all like to have seen them, especially in the context that a winner has already been decided.
Everyone was told from the beginning that all submissions would be seen at the end even if they were disqualified early. They're visible now in this very thread you're not contributing to.
Nothing was lost, No one was treated unfairly; This entire side conversation is absurd and without any points of merit.
thanks for the constructive criticism. i was going by the same motto as the current sp logo and spent 5-10 minutes perfecting it.

Really? None of them? There's a good half dozen there that look far better than the default one.
in my humble opinion, i believe the logo just needs a typeface change with the current style and a removal of ".net".

Wouldn't it be sensible to host another voting to the public to whether they'd prefer to having the current (or the normal, not winter, one), or having the winner's up?
You need to acknowledge that the forum has an opinion on what looks best and what feels right for the forum, instead of your own opinion.
You need to acknowledge that the forum has an opinion on what looks best and what feels right for the forum, instead of your own opinion.
I acknowledge that the vocal 3% of active users have an opinion.
I also don't care; I'm driving this cart, your opinion on the route is irrelevant when you don't even know the destination.
Letting you have your say isn't the same thing as running the site by vote. This is not a democracy; I don't need to do the latter to permit you the former and I maintain full right to discard anything that I do not agree with. Fiel had this same policy so it should not be new.
Grats Kirov and God.
But Mira still beat both of you =P.

Also, by reading all of the other posts, a lot of people really didn't approve of ANY of them replacing the default banner. This was all suppose to be for FUN and I think most people are losing sight of that fact. The negativity that has transpired through this entire event has been totally uncalled for. (not directing that at you, so please don't take it the wrong way) It just really makes me kind of sad that the majority here don't seem to get the concept of good, old fashioned fun. Eos and I are really trying to make the community here feel that they are able to earn a little bit back for whatever it is they contribute to the site. (whether it be monetary, support or information they help provide) I think if everyone relaxes just a little bit, contests in the future will be a lot more fun than this one turned out to be. Contests aren't going to be a place to be argumentative or negative. Let's give credit where credit is due here. How many other fan sites offer any sort of reward or recognition for choosing to be a part of their community? Not a single one that I can think of. Believe it or not, Eos and Fiel work hard to keep this site going as smoothly as it does. They also work hard to make improvements where need be. (even though Fiel technically no longer owns the site, he certainly keeps contributing in a major way so he will get recognition for this also)
So let's give it a rest ladies and gentlemen and welcome some new thoughts and ideas. Also........LEARN TO HAVE SOME FUN!!!!!!

Then i see no point on asking the forum's opinion regarding those banners. It's interesting how you pointed that you don't give a shit about anyone's opinion, but ask theirs regardless.
Also, it shouldn't be hard, to try not to answer in such a rude, ironic, arrogant, and extremely annoying form, you just brought up a lot of unnecessary discussions in this thread, Russt had a point, didn't even ask a question, and was answered in a ridiculous way.
Irrelevant. It's interesting on how you can actually break up and argument only calling it irrelevant regardless of even analyzing it's context.
.
Myles also asked a question in a polite way, and it's a question of common sense, to answer in a decent way, since you don't really need to threat anyone as a complete junk, when you're actually talking to a person out there. You don't need to run the site by vote, like you said. But now, it is contradictory to ask opinions by voting, and then coming up with the argument it's not a democracy, that votes are irrelevant, and that you don't care about any opinions about that.
Really, it was enough unnecessary to bring up such discussions in a thread that was just created to congratulate the winners.
.
Whatever, who speaks what he wants, has sometimes to hear what he doesn't.
Call this irrelevant, because surely it is.
.
Regardless, i still prefer the current logo at all. Mira really has done an amazing job.
Then i see no point on asking the forum's opinion regarding those banners.
Because it was a contest. To see which banner was liked best. Plain and simple. If a banner happened to get my fancy it could've been the new one, possibly regardless of public opinion, possibly in accord with it.
It was pure and simple a way to to try to find something that might have been better, and to reward people for trying.
Everything else people tried to make it, it was not.
Looking forward to the next event.

*cough* I'm pretty sure those are Christmas lights and not "winter" lights.
Good job to everyone who made a banner. You -could- show the name of the artist next to the submission.
Also number 21 with Shanks was cool.
