View Full Version : Death Teddies vs. Birks for I/L?

Hi!

OK, I've been training at Birks & Dual Birks for a few levels with my Hermit buddy who's in her low 80s, and now that we have less than 5 levels between us the experience is very good. (Edit: I'm 78 as of this writing.) My Ice Strike is good enough now that it's also fast training solo. The map is never crowded (in fact there's almost never anyone else there) and it's easy to cycle through, looping the top two levels 2-3 times, then clearing the bottom.

However, I was looking at the training reference and I noticed Death Teddies are listed with a "%" indicator, meaning training on them should be quite fast. I'd be prepared to burn some potions there if I could get quick experience, but I spent 10-15 minutes there last week and it seemed incredibly slow.

They aren't weak to ice, although they do freeze, and give 120 less EXP than Birks, with the same HP. Both monsters are level 85, but with their ice weakness Birks are easier to kill, for more EXP each.

So, does anyone know why DTs have a "great EXP" indicator while Birks don't? Is there some trick to navigating the map that makes them better, or what am I missing?

well the DTs map is a little mobbier than the birks map. If I was an ice mage I would go to birks though. The exp should be around the same, but birks have much better drops.

It might be because before leafre came out, I think that was the place to go for I/L mages at that level...so it's kind of an old tradition and maybe thats why they put it like that? =X Personally, I think it should be updated so that birks bare the blue % sign as well.

Well, obviously since birks are better exp for you, go there. Red kents might also be good.

DTs suck. Someone should notify the Training Reference Guide monitor.

Wolf spiders > everything for mid 7x till mid 8x.

In terms of both exp and mesos. Not to mention the slim chances of ilbis.

Before leafre came out i trained on DT's from 75-80 (I didnt like WS and i kept dieing)

To speed things up i made some priest buddies and they spammed heal while I icestriked which was pretty good EXP

dude birks totally blow monkey chuncks, as do DT's go 1 or 2 maps over to Harps, theyre amazing exp almost into the 9X's i stayed there for 20 lvls (went @ 74) your liek always hitting full mobs, you also have a chance for some nice drops (steeleys which i found 3 of in my 20 lvls) only thing is that you need to watch out with the Weakness that the Red ones cast, try not to get hit by them at all, will make u unable to jump thus lowering your killing Rate, but srsly try it

Hm, Weakness isn't as bad as Seal, and I always carry a bunch of all-cures anyway. I'll definitely give Harps a try while I'm doing my EXP measurements!

I spent a good 20 lvls at Red Kents (76-96) -- was really good exp from about 76-90 but definitely a huge pot burner even after figuring out the map -- atleast give it a shot if you are doing %/hr trials

I wasn't a fan of harps due to the weakness but bring some cures and it should be decent for exp and good for mesos-- really easy map to navigate -- might be hard to find a map during peak hours though as its a favored place of 100- leechers

As far as the guides go -- i think they need to be re-evaluated -- ludi has become extinct as far as training goes imo -- leafre is vastly superior for all 70+ training

OK, various events this week have led to me not being able to have this finished yet (I thought it would only take me a day), but I've managed to do two 30-minute trials so far.

Character info: Level 80, Magic = 517 with Meditation, 28 points in Ice Strike & 3 in Elemental Amplification.

|Exp Gained|Mesos Gained|%Exp/hr|Meso/hr
Birks (Crossroads)|334,872|69,135|19.04|138,270
Harps (Sky Nest II)|326,449|93,370|18.56|186,740
Red Kentaurus (Area of Red Kent.)|392,000|72,125|22.29|144,250
Wolf Spiders (Wolf Spider Cavern)|305,596|148,782|17.37|297,564
Firebrands & Stormbreakers (Cave of Fear)|813,840|45,948|23.14|91,896

Meso gain is pure mesos looted and does not include sales of any drops. I have a well-equipped pet, so almost everything that drops gets picked up.

I will update the next time I'm able to do another test! :f2:

Edit: Added WS & Red Kent info.
