This was my first try at a serious video. Apparently this is the video that won the event, since many of my guildmates received 10k Maple Points after last night's SC. Ironically, I didn't receive anything since my Maple account was created before I moved back to the States, and the competition is closed for people outside the US and Canada. Oh well.

That was a really good video, I liked the footage of Zakum and the beginning and end of the video and the quotes were a nice touch too.

That was a great video. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something that's really unique about this video. It's really inspirational and I felt a deep connection between the members of the guild.

Also, I loved the font. :f2:

Well, Scanian Everest = Bellocan Everest (I should know, I was one of the founders in both guilds), but the Everest of Bera is a totally different guild even though we all share the same emblem.

Fei's there, in the screenshot at the end of the video :f3:

Thanks. I thought most of the words in the video were corny as hell.

What was the IGN of the leader of Everest in Scania? Does he play Bellocan?

I used to know him a long time ago, all that I remember was that he was a DK.

Everest leader in Scania was showie, a DK. He got banned along with 2 friends (they're both play Bellocan now) for NX charging.

Leader of Everest Bellocan joined Everest Scania after showie got banned so she doesn't know him.

While I most certainley think your video was a great entry, it unfortunatley did not follow the entry rules (as far as my knowledge goes).

There was no sponsor slate at the end. On top, the music was not from the MapleGlobal client.

I congratulate you, but it is quite dissappointing to those who did follow the rules down to a T, but did not win, to be outwon by someone who did NOT follow the rules.

Please feel free to point me out as wrong, but I am quite sure I am not. I read those rules a few hundred times. ;)

Anyways, Congrats.

That would've meant none of the entrants would've won.

I gotta say.
I dont usually watch the full maple videos.
But yours was UNBELIEVABLY good!
I really liked it, keep up the good work.
You deserved those maplepoints, ALL OF THEM!

Incorrect. There is one entry that is elgible for winning, and only one. Look carefully :)

Sigh, you did this when I won and you're doing it again. Stop being such a prick about it: His videos is better than yours in EVERY aspect.

I got you mixed up with someone else, sorry >_<

I will once again quote this:

Contest Submissions that do not meet the following "Content Guidelines" are subject to disqualification, in Sponsor's discretion:

LEARN TO READ. YOU HAVE NO SAY IN WHO GETS DISQUALIFIED AND WHO SHOULD WIN. Why? BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT THE SPONSOR. Let the sponsor make the decision (which they did... and oh right... they chose this video over yours) and respect their choice. Besides, the fact that you have "the only video that followed the rules" and still didnt win... that just proves how much your video sucked or how much better this video was than yours.

I went overboard. I thought it was the same kid trying to cause trouble again and I got slightly angry (at that kid, not at you) and decided to put it super bluntly. In other words, its up to nexon to decide what should be disqualified or not. Let them do their job and just sit back and watch because we're not the one interpreting the rules; they are.

And if you want to go by the book so much, I'll post this:

All judging and selection of Entrants will be based on the following judging criteria: (i) creativity, (ii) originality, and (iii) storytelling all directed to the theme of the Contest Submission.

Your Video

Creativity: People have made boss videos for years. Yours adds nothing new to it.

Originality: See above. Videos of people fighting multiple bosses have been an idea used in countless other boss videos already. Nothing original here.

Storytelling: There's no storyline. Its merely you and your guild going around killing bosses, which has no storyline.

It doesnt matter how many rules you followed... yours couldn't have won because your video didnt fare well in all aspects of judging.

Though rules are important, they certainly arent everything. Maybe next time, instead of just reading the rules, read HOW they're judging too *F3*.

Once again, sorry for my bluntness in replying. I know the damage has been done but... yeah. =X I hold nothing against you... its just that I merely confused you and someone else who posted in the same manner (regretably)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've meant to leave a comment on the thread starter's video in a while but never found the time to do so so I'll do it now.

When I watched the video roughly a week (or half a week) ago, I was impressed. Indeed this is a "guild boss hunting" video, but you made it so much more. You built a whole story into it, in which boss hunting wasnt the objective of the video. The objective became the telling of a story of growth and improvement and your footage portrayed that well.

The storyline was nicely constructed and the quotes thrown in there fit perfectly and added to this storyline and the video about "conquering the impossible' with boss footage to reinforce that was creatively done. The transitions were nicely done from scene to scene and synced with the music nicely.

However, there were a few things I felt could be improved:

1. The music transitions werent exactly smooth. I felt the Elin forest music to the Crimsonwood music could've been done at a slightly different point (perhaps when zakum spawned or something else?). It just didnt feel as if there was a smooth transition point there.
2. I know they're useful and an essential part of every mapler's experience but in terms of videos, I'd say close the hp mark and chat boxes or at least edit them completely out of the footage. Its not a big thing, but it makes the viewing pleasure more enjoyable.
3. Personally I felt that the 3rd job advancement scene was a bit out of place, but that's just me and the chat there was a bit... strange? It certainly didnt add to what the video was trying to portray to the audience. I understand that you're taking scenes and sticking it into a video but it doesnt change the fact it was a bit strange =X

Overall a nice effort. The best video won and from one video winner to another, congratz ^^

I'm sorry, but so did I, and I will stay by my assertion that my entry is not violating any rules. When I made this video the last thing I wanted was for it to be disqualified for some stupid oversight. Let's go.

1. How do you define 'sponsor slate'? I see nothing in the rules that says you need Nexon's logo anywhere in the video. I do acknowledge Nexon as the sponsor of the competition and the copyright holder of all material I used in the video so why is there a problem here?

2. The rules say nothing that says entries must use music from Maple Global. If it took you hundreds of reads through the rules to understand this, you have pretty bad reading comprehension. What it does say is that entries may not use any material owned by a 3rd party. Now tell me, what material in my video is property of a 3rd party? None as far as I can tell. Who owns the tracks Ellin Forest/Pink Been/Castle Boss/Repentence? Nexon does.

I gotta say.

Ugh. All 0 of them :f7:
I'm still bitter at Nexon as they didn't even put my name up on the list of winners.

Thanks Jackk =). In fact, a guildmate of mine brought up both points 1 and 2 when I showed her a draft version of the video.

Music transitions in particular bothered me a lot. I wanted the first loud cymbal to coincide with the appearance of Zakum, but I didn't want to cut off the guitar intro since I thought it was the best part of the song, so I decided to switch music when we were in the altar. Nevertheless, it wasn't the best idea, but I had all flashes and cuts synced up with the music up to that point and it was too troublesome to re-sync everything so I let it go. It's also an issue at the end of the final Zakum scene since the movie just ends as the music was building up and not at the climax. Problem was that I died early on at the last Zak fight and didn't have enough footage. I even had to use the same footage multiple times but it still wasn't enough.

The only scenes I recorded specifically for this video were the low-leveled boss ones (Mano, Stumpy, etc.) and HH. Most scenes were recorded on a whim. I wasn't really into video editing. Nevertheless, I was stupid anyhow and didn't realize that the chatbox and party HP meters were in the way. When I started editing I realized it really was disturbing but I could do nothing about it. I'll keep it in mind for any future video work I do, of course.

Point 3 is actually sort of an in-joke so I understand how you think it's strange, lol. I threw it in since I didn't have a boss for that particular segment of music.

Of course, I appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

I actually derived the story-driven narration style I used from 2 Maple videos I were quite impressed with, Max's Tribute to Archers, and your Maple Anniversary movie.

I am sorry if you misinterpreted my sayings. I didn't talk (or intend to talk) in a rude voice, or intend to bring anyone down, whatsoever. I do feel that you intended to do so, though.

Retalion, I never did any such thing with your video, so please do not say I have. Infact, numerous times I've tried helping you with recieving your prize - so please. I got my 3rd place and did not complain - I was quite happy with it, and openly admit that your video was better. Not once did I ever complain of this, so making things up is useless. I think you must be confusing me with someone else.

Secondly, a sponsor's slate is indeed a confusing definition. However, we still know that there is a specific requirement for the end of the video, whether you understand "sponsor's slate" or not. We also know that sponsor's slate does not mean guild picture, for obvious reasons. To me, by using logic, I can deduce that sponsor's slate means nexon's logo. This is how it was done on the other video contest, and how I believe it was meant to be done this time. Understood?

The music a grey line - there isn't a yes, or a no. It is owned by Nexon Korea, NOT Nexon America Inc., who is identified as the sponsor on the official rules.

Thank you very much retalion for mentioning the section of the rules where Nexon may basically do anything they want -you're right. However, that is the same as the ToS, and, just because they say "we reserve the right to do whatever the hell we want", that does not mean they should, would, or can do it.

Lastly, I am not even the creator of any submissions in the contest - and I am by no means implying that my guild's entry was better OR worse than any other. I am SIMPLY saying that it is my full belief that rules were broken, on the winning entry.

Thanks, I'm trying to save this from becoming a flame war. As I said before, well done regardless.

EDIT: Yeah. Thanks retalion for communicating with me. Guess you mixed me up with someone else =p

Back on topic, I thought it was well done aside for a few things and that the story was well thought out.

Gosh.. Ok I admit the rule about the sponsor slate is worded stupidly:

The Contest Submission must include the Sponsor Slate as the final content.

What they were referring to by 'final content' was the video, not the 'slate'. How do we know this? By reading the sentence after that:

It may be animation, live action or both but must be an audiovisual presentation in an electronic file format compatible with YouTube's and MySpaceTV's posting requirements and in compliance with YouTube's Terms of Use and MySpaceTV's Terms of Use.

It's not that they said 'You must end your entry with a picture of our logo.' I never stated that my 'sponsor slate' was the guild picture, I did it by simply stating Nexon's ownership of intellectual property.

Seeing as how the American branch of Nexon uses whatever material they want from other versions of MS, I don't see how using music from other versions of MS would be a problem. Eventually those tracks will be in gMS too.

Anyways, I'll drop the subject right here, since nothing will change no matter who is right.
