I like 7 by itself, but it'd look weird on the site. Either develop an entire background skin for the site using that as the starting point or try to make the banner colors blend in with the blue gradient we have now.

Pink Bean sets a nice contrast to the blue, plus the odd quirky cuteness of it belies SP's nature.

I had originally planned to submit something like number 7, but when I tried to fix the border it was a little fuzzy & choppy, so I think that's why the designer made the border thick. But anyways, the ones I made still didn't make it haha. I guess it was just too much going on or too colorful ;(

2-6 are the only ones that truly look like they're not out of place, but 2-5 are far too plain and I don't like the text on 6. 7 is nice but doesn't fit in context, 8 just looks like an amateur Basil banner and 1 is the best style for Southperry, but it just doesn't seem to fit right. Ultimately and unfortunately, I'd go with 6.

I sorta like the last one. I can see the effort the artist put on this - building up a theme for the banner.
Of course, there are room for improvement, I would suggest a pirate flag/ ship to make the theme more obvious, a thick lips for Usopp...etc

#8 is my least favorite. I don't get the relationship between Southperry and One Piece. I also don't like how Luffy's head gets chopped off by the end of the banner and how ugly it translates over into the preview of what it would look implemented.

#1 was worth a giggle or two for whoever made it, and I smiled seeing an entry like that up there. Not worth my serious consideration as an entry, but thanks to whoever made it.

Some of these were a little boring, and weren't much better than our logo as is.

I'm split between choosing #3 (although it's one of the "generic ones" I mention, it does at least work), #6, and #7 (which I have the same thoughts about as Felix).

I feel like if a plain text won, it wouldn't be outmatch Mira's. Mira did a very good job.

6, I can see where the love for it is coming from, and it looks great on the forum, but it depends if we'll change the forum as a whole to match 7. If we did, then I certainly think it deserves to win. Otherwise, 6 is the best option.

For the moment, it's simply choosing the best banner out of the ones provided, not necessarily the one that will 100&#37; for sure replace the one we have. 1 i dislike. Icons of the site shouldn't be on the banner. Also i think the blue smudging would look bad on the default skin.

2 3 and 5 i don't like. Much too plain.

4 is cool looking.

6 is too light on color, and PB is a douchebag. Don't understand the obsession with him in almost anything MS related.

7 looks terrible. There is such a thing as too much detail, and i agree with whoever said the lines were too thick.

Even if most of the community is tight and can take a hit from each other, we don't know who submitted what and we don't want to discourage people from trying when other similar events happen. It's fine to say THE LINES ARE A LITTLE TOO THICK and I don't think Talia would disagree, but just saying "7 looks terrible" isn't appropriate, even if you follow it up with your reasoning. Just leave the negativity out of it. Not super difficult.

Expressing extreme distaste in a style is constructive. No feedback is bad feedback. My post overall was still constructive, natural attitude of mine aside. I'm pretty sure if i said "This banner would be better if there weren't random ass people doing random stuff", it wouldn't be any less constructive. You could still take it as being rude because i'm essentially saying the entire point that makes the banner unique is useless, and i could still say it's constructive because no maple characters makes the banner better to look at.

It has also NEVER been said that i acknowledge that the winning banner would absolutely 100&#37; take the place of the current one. I clearly stated that YOU have said otherwise. My point was that bringing that point into the discussion dilutes the motivation of those who do want the banner changed and who take this topic seriously, thus should not be CONSTANTLY POINTED OUT.

Putting down pieces of work in a line up is kind of necessary to pick a winner. People still respect the authors for doing work, but a winner has to be chosen.

If you agree, but don't think the reasoning should be posted or whatever, then people voting will be blinded. When i came into this thread i couldn't put my thumb on what i thought was wrong with #7, but after reading the comments i found out it was because of the lines. If people hadn't posted that criticism i would have had a much harder time figuring out what would look best on the site.

No, it's being opinionated.
Being constructive is providing ways they can improve, not just stating it's something you outright despise regardless.
No one can do anything about your tastes - They're not an actionable complaint. The lines being too thick, the colors being too dark, all the submissions that didn't think to use transparency and wouldn't work on any background except one that matched them - Those are actionable constructive complaints they can take and come back to next go around as ways to improve.

#1 was most enjoyable to me. I don't think SouthPerry should be srsbsns anyways, and with the way Fiel did things in terms on censoring, I felt that #1 fits that theme rather well. Though it wasn't as great as many others, I still thought that it fits SouthPerry as a whole. Not going to comment on the rest of them because:

b) Lazy ; see above

I had said that these submissions do not top the quality and simplicity of the current banner. More than half of the submissions obviously strive for simplicity but are honestly nothing more than a custom font slapped onto a transparent background. The only submission that does not fit this description is #7, and while it's a pretty good looking banner, it just wouldn't look good in place of the current banner assuming it would be used in that same size and would be put in the same place.

No offense to the maker of number 6, the banner is made quite well, but I just hate Pink Bean... It has more to do with Meso Extraction from addicts then from Data Extraction where southperry.net is based on...

IMHO, #1 is beautifully done, and can be used for Southperry anniversary, but it is too in-jokey for regular use. It's one thing to greet unlurkers with "welcome to the land of chinchillas and pineapples", it's quite another to do it to every random visitor.

#8... well, we have lots of people with similar stuff in their siggies or avatars, so we can't pretend that sort of thing is too low-brow, too "basil" for Southperry. However, it does look more like a Nexon annoucement/ad header than a header for a "renegade website".

The plain text ones... They're all nice, but if we're going plain-text, might as well stick to the current banner. I don't see the point in change for change's sake. But I don't see any harm in rotating the lot of them every month or so for variety, either.

The Bean... yeah, I don't like it either (the bean, not the banner. Banner's fine, for what it's trying to do). Nexon use it too much.

#7... I really like the concept, and the execution looks fine standalone, but jarring on the page.
I do think something of that sort could work to be better than our current banner. Something to show we specialize in information.
How about: Show a monster in X-Ray or possibly HUD-style "target info display". Not Bean, please. I'd go with Orange Mushroom. What does a mushroom's X-Ray show? Maybe a Maple Leaf, then, though that's no monster.
(I totally lack any artistic ability, so anyone who feels like taking this idea is welcome to it)

Sorry, but im....not to thrilled about any of them :c\ Design wise, the current one beats these imo.

Agreed. I'll vote anyways though:

1 - I love the chinchilla with a monocle. For some reason, the banner as a whole just doesn't appeal to me. The font also seems too...basic.
2 - Nice and simple.
3 - The best one, IMO. Good job on adding the shadow to make it stand out.
4 - 2nd place, if I could choose one. It might have looked a bit better if it was a gradient instead of a solid line through the middle of the text, but nice job nonetheless.
5 - Interesting font design, but it doesn't really appeal to me. s:
6 - I lol'd at Pink Bean. Otherwise, I didn't care for it.
7 - I could see this being expanded as a banner ad and put on websites (southperry banner ad on sleepywood, anyone? :cool:), but as being the banner for the forum, it's just too loud with too many colors.
8 - I like the gradient effect. Having the random maplers makes me dislike it though. I prefer a banner with no maplers at all.
