View Full Version : Welcome Our New Event Coordinator
As some of you are aware, I've mentioned the plan to have various events beginning next year.
I'm pleased to present step one of that plan and introduce you to our new Community Event Coordinator (http://www.southperry.net/showgroups.php), TaliaNCo.
Tals will be setting up, hosting and announcing the winners of various events throughout 2011 based on the modest budget she's been given, as well as be the point of contact for players who want to contribute to special events in some way, be it ideas, designs or otherwise.
Please give her a warm welcome and show her your excitement and interest.
Who is that? O__o
Nonetheless, welcome! :D I hope you have a nice run as the event coordinator and not get annoyed and pissed off at the impotence of a lot of us.

Why the hell would you give it to Talia, and not a long-time member of Southperry, or at least someone people not from Mardia could recognize.
Why the hell would you give it to Talia, and not a long-time member of Southperry, or at least someone people not from Mardia could recognize.
Because I "gave" it to the person most trustworthy, qualified and capable of coordinating events, working with a budget and getting it done who I know personally.
It's a job, not a popularity contest, so who knows her doesn't mean a damn thing. You all know who she is now and you can judge for yourselves how she does.
It saves me the trouble of picking someone "everyone" knows and letting them deal with all the judgmental baggage having an identity here brings.

Thank you Eos, and everyone else.
Let me first start by saying that I know I haven't been a completely active member of this community. I know some people on here due to playing Maplestory, and others I recognize merely due to their activity here on Southperry. I lurk and read a lot more than I post or contribute. Even though I lead a very busy life, this is something that I absolutely LOVE doing. I've done it in the past on another website I used to go to for years and had lots of fun doing it. I am really looking forward to finally making a worthy contribution to this website.
Now I know we have a large mix of people in our community. Some still actively play Maplestory, some merely come to check out the updates and extractions and others have moved on to different things but continue to come here to stay in touch with friends they've made. Since this is mainly a Maplestory fansite, most events will probably be Maplestory related. However, I like the idea of throwing in some different and completely off topic things, that way people who don't have much of an interest in Maple any longer might have an interest in playing along. :)
That being said, I absolutely welcome you all to share your interests and ideas with me. I would love to have more of an idea of what interests all of you, even if it's not Maple related. The point here is, I want everyone to have fun and have a fair chance at winning things. Eos has given me a fairly generous budget, all things considered. I think once we get the ball rolling here, you'll all understand what we're trying to accomplish.
Please feel free to PM me with questions or concerns. I will reply to you as quickly and honestly as I can. Thank you again!

I believe that when someone is picked as staff of a forum, they should be picked from that forum. The members have gained time to actually know them and respect them, and therefore will be more likely to get along with them. And I know you'll probably say "but they don't need to get along with them", but I feel that they should.
However, an "event organizer" is obviously a bit different than a normal member of the staff, and I think you of all people wouldn't choose someone you know for this if you didn't think they were fit for the job. So... here's hoping you picked well?

Just want to clear the air on one thing here. For the most part, my only "job" here will be to coordinate events. Having the "moderator" title merely gives me other viewing options that I will require in order to do things properly. However, I know Eos will expect me to also use some common sense here and if I see inappropriate things I should also handle them properly. The fact that underneath my username it states "moderator" doesn't mean I'll start getting click happy with my new found powers lol.

That is the most bulls'hit cop out excuse a Forum Owner/Admin can use and that is coming from someone who has been the owner/admin of many forums. Sometimes people will be idiots and that is the best way to shut them up, but 95% of the time no one should use that excuse.

No, it's her having been unable to maintain a stupid little crap thread virtually no one cared about that it's original owner also couldn't be bothered to maintain but expected other people to pick up for him.
People have lives Rick. They prioritize. Worthless crap no one will care about is what gets cut first when push comes to shove on finding time. Get over it.
I, as an impartial Green bystander, say that both sides should cool down, and Ricks posts should stop being deleted. People should be allowed their opinions regardless of if they're mean or not. And I bet that if we all calm down and just let Rick post, he won't seem like such a plantain.

Pretty sure you saying that won't change a thing, dual. The thread's been made, the persons qualifications are being put into question by using past examples as evidence, those remarks are removed and more negative comments ensue.
Sure having negative words here isn't fun, but then again having negative actions resulting from censorship isn't much better. but, eos' site, his rules, right?
Sorry but deleting Rick's posts is pretty low.
Rick was previously a moderator because he was mature, sensible, and real. Why would he criticize your appointing of this new moderator in any other way? Is he not being "happy" enough? Does he need to be?
Edit: Oh my, it would seem that many touchy posts were made since 3:56 when I first started typing up this post. I still feel that Rick doesn't deserve the hate and that he should be allowed to express his views on all of this regardless of how "angsty" or clueless you think he might be.
Oh, and Talia, I'm not sure if Eos had already told you but new moderators are required to participate in this thread. (http://www.southperry.net/showthread.php?t=17067&page=35):3

Rick is being a pissy little school girl and hasn't demonstrated a lick of maturity since his little harry-whipping incident where he stepped down. Now he's trying to throw up sour grapes over absolutely trivial crap as if she had the fate of the whole damn world hanging in the balance and went on vacation.
His posts were deleted because they have no legitimate bearing on this. They're not even remotely similar, and it's just Rick throwing another hissy fit trying to tear someone else down over his own sour grapes.
Sure seems Madperry up in here. Why can't we have Funperry anymore...
And Eos, I don't get why you're getting so mad over this. So far you've called Rick a lot of names, and that's kinda mean. :(
What's the matter Eos, losing your cool? You have appointed someone, who is personally favourable to you, who has previously shown me she is untrustworthy, and I am expressing an opinion. Personally I thought Rick was a pretty cool mod, and this situation does not in any way lower my opinions of him. I don't know why everyone is so mad up in here. I kinda feel bad for the new mod, because both of you have gone a bit out of line and now you've turned her welcoming thread into a hate-filled thread with insults flying everywhere.
tl;dr: Everyone go away and have some cookies.
The only reason I'm even going to say this:
Even Isaac had made a post regarding her inactivity. (http://www.southperry.net/showthread.php?t=11557&p=211235&viewfull=1#post211235)
Do I think Rick is right? Partially. That a person's qualifications are being put into question is something I agree with, but hey that can only be quelled with her actions.
Does his comments being removed seem right? Partially. Yeah it's not fun seeing a negative view on things, but calling someone a "pissy little school girl" and an "angsty college student," while preaching about responsibility and telling someone to "Grow the hell up." does nothing to resolve the issue.

You're not expressing an opinion, you're being an ass, purposefully, knowingly and intentionally, with former mod experience behind you to know exactly what you're doing so you have no excuses for your behavior.
You're being petty, immature, childish and if you're demonstrating for everyone anything about my poor judgment it's how mistaken I was when I recommended you for moderator.

To be honest Eos, Rick has a point. Talia not updating a thread often due to real life makes sense, but he's saying that she never did it. I'm not saying that she HAS NO RESPONSIBILITY WHATSOEVER or something like that, but she does have to prove herself a bit more now.
I see no reason why his original post had to be deleted. You seem fine insulting him over it now instead.

Rick,
I didn't see your posts because they were deleted. I am aware of your concerns though, and why. I could sit here and post every excuse as to why I had to leave that thread, but I'm sure it wouldn't do much good. Excuses are excuses and everyone has them. As Eos stated, yes, I have 4 children that consume a lot of my time. I also have two jobs now....one full time and one part time. And yes, our house we've rented for years was foreclosed on and we were unsure what would happen with that. (amont many, many other things that I will not go into) I did have to prioritize and Southperry just didn't make it to the top of my list. Considering my busy life, when I played Maple, it was MY relaxation time, MY enjoyment and MY time to escape real life....even for just a little while. I really don't play Maple any longer due to many reasons, but I enjoy doing something that I enjoy during my "ME" time. This is something I enjoy doing and I did it for a very long time before I ever started playing Maple. I'm looking forward to doing something again to consume my brain with other thoughts. It helps keep me just a little sane. ;)
If you don't like me, or the fact that I've been given this privilege that's fine. You're entitlted to your opinion. I promise I won't lose any sleep over it. Though hopefully you'll change your mind at a later time and I hope you participate as much in the events as you have in this thread.

Delete your own posts and go about your business then. Replying with things like "Grow the hell up" isn't going to solve anything. I'm amazed you can't keep it civil, being the admin you are.
Both of you are being unreasonable. Going "BAT SHE A BAD MOD" won't do anything, Rick, and "YOU TAKE THAT BACK COKSUCKERBICH" isn't any better, Eos.

Thank you Talia. I'm glad that you're levelheaded. I for one think this whole thing could have been avoided if the posts were left from the start, and Eos allowed you to say this. Welcome to Southperry, hope it won't catch on fire like this much while you're here.

I look forward to TaliaNCo's events. Hopefully that cake is not a lie. There is nothing we can do to change the past. Might as well be looking at the present or how things will play out in the future. If the thread in question is the only mistake that has been presented for why TaliaNCo shouldn't have this position, then that means she still performed suitably in all other cases. I'm sure that if we look through some of the threads that we have made, there are at least one or two that we cringe and regret writing in the first place.

There. Thankyou for replying to my question. I'm not going to sit here and write a detailed essay on why your reasons aren't good enough (which is not my belief, by the way) because, contrary to Eos' beliefs, my goal is not to sit here, piss and moan about everything on Southperry, and tear you down piece by piece to destroy you. I was seeking a simple explanation, and now I have it. Welcome to the forums.

But anyway, it'll be nice to see some variety in here for once! May I suggest a forum skin contest? Getting tired of looking at BLUE! Maybe...GRAY.
I mentioned this earlier, but blue is nice because our eyes have the best color discrimination in the blue range, so there are a lot of different shades.
Also, rather than have an official set of skins you could have people post Stylish (http://userstyles.org/) user styles. Of course, there would be no inherent incentive to doing so beyond looking at your own skin, but one could certainly hold a contest to see whose Stylish skin gets the most votes. And then you don't have to subject everyone to that anyway, since all entries are instantly usable skins anyway (as long as you're using Chrome or Firefox, or are willing to mess with user scripts in Safari or Opera).
Edit: Oh, I don't think I've said this yet. Welcome, Talia!

If you have absolutely no wish to participate in moderation, you shouldn't be dabbling into its waters. In the event that you (even with the most reasonable excuse in this world and the next) choose to retain the smallest portion of authority, the truth remains that YOU chose to do it, or that Eos had such plans, or whatever it may suggest to each doubtful mind.
After all, with your main role having nothing to do with giving out punishment, it's only fair that you save yourself some time and us some trouble.

Don't think I've worked with vBulletin before (I think I've have modded for one before, but that was years ago).
I'm fairly sure this could be done rather easily with user permission adjustment. Create a new usergroup and grant it permission to post threads in site announcements. But why would Eos go through that trouble? Even if her primary purpose on the team isn't to dish out infractions, Eos doesn't mind if there's a time where nobody else is on to handle it and she steps in.

While I don't really have an opinion on whether this person moderates or not, but Eosian could have created an off-shoot group of either Super Mods or Admins and given her access to post in Site Announcements, there isn't really a need to place her into the Super Mod usergroup when he could have whipped up a custom group with everything she needed to do her job besides to save time. I just want a simple Y/N answer and we all move on. If you don't do moderation, both sides get less pomegranate to deal with, if you do, you must have your reasons and I'll hate you for it and you won't care. I believe I gave Rick the answer he was looking for. As for your concerns about me dishing out infractions, I discuss virtually everything with Eos. Also, infracting people is really not even on my mind. Right now I have one focus and I'm doing just that......focusing on the task at hand. I also suppose that if people would just behave, considering they know the rules, infractions wouldn't be a concern anyhow. Infractions do exist though and they exist for a reason. I guess I really don't see the issue here. It's like getting a speeding ticket. You know what you did, that it was wrong, you sign the ticket, pay the fine and still hop in your car and move along. It eventually expires off your record as long as you learned your lesson the first time and don't do it again. I can promise you that I am level headed and if I ever infracted anyone I'm sure there would be a dang good reason for it. I won't be browsing around the forums looking to hand out infractions though.

Infractions are never the issue. Your possession (or the jump to it) of moderator's powers in conjunction with your informal relationship with the site's extreme authority is. I don't question whether it's right or wrong, I'm questioning whether or not you want to and will do it.
It doesn't seem necessary anyhow, since you're already sounding like one, though I could be jumping the gun.

If people are being abusive in her threads she needs to be capable of dealing with it, not stuck waiting for a "real" mod to come along and help her.
Likewise if she needs to close a thread, move a thread, delete a thread, post an announcement, reopen a thread or anything else to do her job.
She'd be the equivalent of a local moderator except she needs more freedom than that, so she's the same level as everyone else because I can trust her to behave herself and stay focused.

Welcome =)
My reaction to this thread:
1. Huh, I remember seeing Talia somewhere, was it Nexon forums? Or was it a different GM....
2. God, people hate Talia. She seems pretty chill.
3. LULZ MARK AND PUBLIC HAIR.
4. ...never saw Rick and Eos get that mad before.
5. Glad for resolved argument?
6. Welcome to Southperry, the land of chinchillas, pineapples, and Ponystars.
