I just installed StarCraft, along with the expansion, on my computer with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit. Installation went fine and the game starts up without any errors, but the problem begins after the loading screen. Once I get to the menu, I get a bunch of blinking and random black lines on the left side of my screen, along with a much more dense collection of black lines in a small square in the top left corner of my monitor. I have StarCraft fully patched and my video drivers are updated. I tried running in multiple compatibility modes, but running in XP SP2 did not fix it and StarCraft wouldn't even run with anything lower. I also tried running it as an administrator, again trying different compatibility modes, but it did nothing. I also tried selecting the other options such as Run in 256 colors and Run in 640x480, but neither of them fixed it.
There is something strange about it, though. I turned on scaling with a fixed aspect ratio so that games without widescreen settings, such as MapleStory, would not be stretched, but StarCraft stretches across my whole monitor regardless of this setting. I even tried turning off scaling, but StarCraft continues to take up the whole screen. It could just be that StarCraft is too old to run on this hardware and this operating system without flaws, but I have heard of others playing StarCraft on Vista with no problem, so there must be a solution.
