You should now see the Market tab on your screen, assuming you're a registered user and not a stinky lurker dwelling on the fringe of society (Join us, we bathe!).

The Market tab is experimental. It may have issues, it may hiccup and eat your family. It may regurgitate small children and myriad woodland critters. Use at your own use risk. Reasonable attempts will be made to fix anything it does but if it goes on a murderous rampage, steals your credit card and buys a yacht and then sails away to Aruba without me you may have to settle for a "Sorry".
Because of #1 features/options may appear/disappear or cease functioning sporadically while being worked on.
I've had to rewrite a lot of it because I suspect the author was a lemur on crack. The bits I was able to test now work. No earthly idea if the most basic function, charging $$$, actually works because it violates the TOS to charge money to myself but the test api seemed OK. If you buy karma, get charged, but don't see any points PM me.

Now on to the important stuff - Operating the bloody thing.

Two flavors of points, Karma and SPP (Southperry Points, duh). The first you buy, the second you will be able to earn through various in forum events and activities slated to begin in 2011 (FYI some of those events will come with a choice of SPP or NX).
To charge karma click on the very large "Purchase some Karma (http://www.southperry.net/market_convert.php)" link on the "Your Information" section. Do not close the browser window before Paypal finishes sending you back to Southperry or you will NOT get credit for your purchase
To see how much you've purchased in the past click on the numeric indicator of your current karma in "Your Information" section.
To see your purchase history click on the numeric indicator of your total purchases in the "Your Information" section.
To donate Karma (not, SPP) to another user you may use the "Other users" category.
For items that a refund is available on you may click the Yes on the item screen where it says "Item Refundable: Yes" to initiate a refund. This may lose you some of the points you spent as a forfeit. Time limit to request a refund is 24 hours. This is the only way to turn off a purchased feature at this time and it may not quite work. Some features will appear to still be active for a while after refunding due to caching. Others may just outright ignore the fact you got a refund and continue working anyway. Needs more testing.

That said, knock yourselves out.

Nope. For right now your existing donor package is what you've already spent. The colored title is just a default feature of being in the Donator class you're in.

No stealing refers to taking points from other users.
Its an idiotic 'user a spends x points for y chance to steal z points from user b' and it's disabled because it's idiotic, hence Fiel will always be in the #1 position, being user #1.

...Which brings me to my next point. Is there any way you can make the refund 100%? I mean, with the SouthPerry Points, I can see there being a refund rate of being 50%, but with the paid-for points, it seems weird to have it less than 100% - especially if you screw up like I did. lol

Yes I know. Trying to make the two work together is what resulted in everything breaking. I gave up caring about that feature since it's not being paid for.
Later i'll introduce a 100$ 'turn off everyone elses mods' options and only let it be bought by three people via a bidding system.

Missingthepoint

If you could just...refund 100% of your money you spent, then there would be almost no reason for you to continue to charge.

For example:
You could just refund your color change once a day, and change it back.

Not the best analogy. That's what the 24 hour limit is for, and most stores allow you a refund within 24 hours or 1 week or whatever. Though, you may have a hard time if it's opened already, and you'll certainly not be getting your money back if there's physical evidence of you breaking it, but the point is you're usually granted a refund within a short period of time.

Having a 24 hour limit AND only 50% refund seems a bit excessive to me, but at the same time I don't feel it's an issue that needs too much looking into. Especially when it can be abused by constant refunds every 23 hours. I'd suggest a system where the 24 hour refund period restricts the actual value of the points rather than the purchase itself, but that'd obviously be quite a lot of unnecessary work. What I mean is, you spend 1k points, and those 1k points can be refunded within 24 hours. You can make however many purchases you want with those 1k points for 24 hours, and test stuff out, but by the end of 24 hours those points stay wherever you placed them.

Don't worry. Mine is most likely going to be gone soon. I THOUGHT I would have a Dark Red background with a normal red text, which looks awesome, by the way (you can put your mouse over my name and it'll show what it should look like), but it made the text blue instead... So, I tried returning it, but it only gave me 50% back, which wasn't enough to change it to another color. Eventually, I'll be back to pure red. :S

I gave everyone who had some a little boost due to the refund issues and adjusted the refund rates based on donor status similar to the way the discounts work.

Because you've never donated on this system and you wouldn't have any point balance because for all intents and purposes it was already spent on your current level of donator status.

No one was credited with points for having already been a donor. When it's more stable and works right active donors may receive some spending points.

It would make more sense to implement the ability to "preview". It can't be that difficult and it would make the market system much less intimidating, considering users have no idea what their names/titles will look like until after they buy it. If they don't like it, all they can do is refund it and still end up losing some of their money.

I'd rather have a small border around the characters/letters in my username (in which I can control the thickness), rather than a glow effect. Is it even possible to implement that?

Haven't read the entire thread, or anywhere else on the forum, but have usertitle colours/avatar sizes which were bought beforehand been deleted? I paid $5 for my usertitle colour and now it's gone. Do I get it refunded via Karma, or my usertitle colour re-done. Or is it just... gone?

Not that I'm aware of but then I'm also not entirely clear on what you mean.

Not touching that sort of thing until it's actually stable and working as it should. Think of it as being in beta right now.

Like making the outlines around the words a bit thicker? So instead of seeing a black glow around the word "Khoi", it's just a slight black outline. Hoping this is a better explanation, haha. Kinda rushed what I wanted to state last time.

Not the way it's currently designed. Each glow tag right now requires it's own css element so creating one for every possible width of glow would be nightmarishly annoying.
Even the glow tag couldn't be made to support it easily because as soon as you move into multiple parameters on a bbcode tag you start getting into complex parsing and overrides and exceptions that start to get annoying to code.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up a bit. I was never sure if that was even possible, actually learning CSS atm, and I haven't even found a way to make the glow-effect on words yet, haha. Thanks!

You wouldn't really have to make a new class for each possible width of glow. The current glow is pretty much neutral, not too big nor too small, so can stay like that. You'd just have to make 1 new class for the "border" text and place it as a separate option from glow in the market or something.

I haven't worked with CSS in a while, but if you need me to, I can see if I can remember the correct values for making a solid pixel border (probably about 2 pixels thick) over titles rather than a glow.

That is, if you're not opposed to the idea. I don't really mind, just giving my input on it.

Edit:

{text-shadow: -2px 0 black, 0 2px black, 2px 0 black, 0 -2px black}

Something like that, maybe. I haven't tested those values, but I think that's the general idea from what I remember. Kinda like glows, but you're offsetting them by 2 pixels.

The glow itself is a text shadow. You can't overlay two separate text shadows one to control the size and one to control the color. You need a single text shadow that specifies both or the innermost wins.

Yeah, I know you can't have two separate shadows. It's either glow or border, but you can't have both simultaneously.

How's the code for the glow look? I'm imagining it's something like:

{text-shadow: 0 0 0.2em #(color), 0 0 0.2em #(color)}

Right?

Yup.

Thanks. For outlined font, all you'd need to do is edit the values of the text shadow into something similar to what I did in an earlier post. Just make sure to put a notice that you can only pick either glow or outline, since you can't have both of them simultaneously.

Also, how do you refund, or is there no way to refund free items because there's "no reason to"?

On the market page, see where it says whether the item is refundable or not? "Yes" links to the refund page.

Or at least, for us normal users it does, but I see no reason for it to be any different for you guys.

Another boost has been given to everyone who's participated to thank for your help in testing.

Personalized username modifications from previous regimes are in the process of being restored, unless you've already set one via the new system.

Still on the todo list - Enabling the background color options for username/usertitle/thread title/postbody, making SPP actually work. Other things I may have repressed.

Of the text, not the actual postbody itself. Yet.

Like a permanent/automatic version of this.

Although in retrospect making it the whole postbody would probably be the less painful option in this case, since the intersection of postbody plus bg plus glow plus text color could potentially kill and maim.

For real Eos, I know it's nice and all to generate revenue for Southperry through this Market thing, but it seems like you're thinking "Well, it worked for Sleepywood, so it'll definitely work here."

Many of us left Sleepywood because of the post backround/color garbage. Username coloring/glowing is already pushing it for some. Can we keep Southperry simple like it has been for over two years? Pretty please?

I'm sorry, but that just looks horrible. It's not just the color selecting or anything, the table color change alone just completely clashes with the forum layout.

Also, Eos, I take it you're not up for my suggestion of including an outline rather than glow? I don't think it'd take too much work. I really think solid outlines would look better than fuzz.

Then again, outlines made in CSS usually look pretty meh, but I've never tried making them before. They probably look better at 2 or 3 px thick.
