I just bought an HP Pavilion dv5-1003nr laptop and so far i'm kind of disappointed. I wanted a knew laptop because my old HP pavilion wasn't capable of doing all the things I wanted it to do (MS + fraps + MSN messenger + internet explorer at the same time =D). So I got this hp with 4G ram, AMD Turion x2 processor, ATI Radion HD 3200 graphics card, with 256 mb dedicated video memory, and all other kindsa crazy crap.

I can't believe the friggin scroller on my mousepad doesnt work. The one that lets you scroll through the page like a mouse roller. The worste part is, it doesnt even seem any different than my old laptop. Hell........ it seems like my old one was friggin faster... to bad I sold it for $300 today =*(

Well is there anyway to get the scroller to work? I tried going into control panel and I can't seem to find it.

Edit: Wow......... even MSN messenger won't fkin install on this piece of crap..

The mouse probably does work, but you're not used to it. I took forever to work mine -_-.

Was your old computer XP and this computer Vista? Vista could be draining your RAM (even with 4 gigs =O) and could be the problem for your msn messenger misinstallation.

Other than that, I have no clue.

It's the mouse, it took me 3 mouses to get the scroller to work, the scrollers get screwed up a lot of the time for some reason.

I'm on a laptop and i'm not using a mouse. The scroller on my laptop doesnt work. The one that you use your finger to move the pointer and to scroll up and down through the page.

Anyway, So this laptop isnt as slow as I thought.......... I finally got MS up and running, and holy shiet.... I can go into windows mode and freely go through google chrome and MSN messenger without any lag at all =D

Oh then theres probably something under the pad that's glitching it or it's just a error with the laptop.

Take it to the geeksquad :D

Since when did Chrome work with Maplestory? I heard of numerous instances in the Chrome thread that it didn't work.

If MS is running ,I can't use chrome at the same time. I like the simplicity of chrome though. So when MS isn't running, I use chrome instead of IE.

I meant IE in my last post lol. Google chrome stops working after a few mins on MS, and I have to switch back to IE.

Your laptop's specifications seems fine.. 4 GB RAM is really decent, same for almost everything else. Odd to know that your scroller doesn't work, it should automatically work as soon as you use it. o_O

If all else fails, buy a USB-mouse (or wireless), should only be from 10 - 20 dollars if you go to the right places (check online!).

I shouldn't have to buy a mouse because my scroller doesn't work on my brand new laptop. I'm taking it over to the geek squad 2morrow to have them look at it. It's probably something simple like it got accidentally uninstalled or something. I hope =(

True, however, if you've used a USB-mouse vs a scroller, you'll realize that using the USB-mouse makes your life so much easier, and it's much easier to navigate, and it's only about 15 dollars. -shrugs- I've used both, and as a computer networker.. I prefer the USB-mouse. xP

lol

1. never take your stuff back to geeksquad, they skeem

2. Why should he avoid the problem of a problematic touch pad? He paid for it, why should he settle for something else.

3. Vista isn't some monster that fawkin "drains" you ram. 4Gigs is way more than sufficient. The people complaining about Vista are the ones who bought their crappy machines at staples where they're specifications meets the minimum requirements. I have Vista on my machine and it runs without any problems.

4. The touch pad just takes time to get used to, make sure you are always on the side of the touch pad, and sometimes they require you to sorta drag your finger on it for it to scroll.

5. You can also try to uninstall some of the HP bloatware that came installed with the machine to get better performance.

6. If you still want to get a new laptop, I recommend getting the Toshiba Quosimo G50 for F50.

And if you're really stumped on that laptop with any other issues, visit the HP online tech support. -- Notice the word with big red bolded letters. Over the years of having an HP machine, their online tech support has been quite helpful and knowledgeable about your problem. It's just... the same cannot be said for their phone support staff.

Seriously, their phone support staff is about as dumb as demanding an answer out of an automated answering machine (or something like that). It also takes like 30 minutes to connect to their phone staff. Let's just say, at least your wall doesn't say frustratingly dumb things like "disconnect the ethernet cable -- don't worry, you won't dc from the internet." or "restart your modem, check if your modem is x ft from wall" any and everytime you have an issue. I really suggest you not waste your precious time with these guys.
