Pulled straight from my thread on sleepywood, but since I will probably be hanging around here a bit, I figured I might as well post it here as well.

This will organize everybody's training grounds and newcomer magicians can use this information.

This thread is only meant to serve as a guide to magicians on which training ground members of the magician community have found to be effective for experience, money gain, or both. All that is presented here is the general knowledge that the community has accumulated on what training locations tend to be most effective at the various periods of a character's training life. It is not meant to be a law by which all magicians must follow when they play maple story.

If you wish to do something different from what is listed here, you are free to do so. It is likely that deviating from this guide will give you poorer results in training, but it is also possible that you find something even better than what this reference has to offer.

If a training place is missing or if a new place comes out, you may send me a PM (http://www.southperry.net/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=474) to have it added. It is possible for me to miss things (though I try not to). If you want me to add something, please provide as much information as possible. Posting things such as level, experience rate, skill build, AP distribution and funding information makes it much easier to see the feasibility of a training method for others.

<Disclaimer> Before getting started, I reserve the right to make changes to this information based on my own experience and on people's suggestion. I do not take any credit for "discovering" good training spots, however I do take credit for scavenging for the information and putting them all into one organized thread for the public to use.Update History:

Update 1.0 – Pulled original thread (http://www.sleepywood.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1371781) from sleepywood

Legend
$ -- Easy on your pocket; possibly a good gold mine. Remember: possibly. No promises.
$ -- Heavy spending. This spot is a potion burning furnace.
% -- Awesome experience. Seriously, zomgwtphax0rs kind of experience.
% -- Slow experience, maybe very slow. You should have reasons to train here other than for good exp.

Full attacker party -- partying to the maximum carrying capacity of the map (for instance, a full Dual Ghost Pirate attacker party is 4-5 people). There are usually priests in full attacker parties. Carrying capacity various from map to map.
Party with <specific class> -- This strictly means you party this class with the exception of maybe 1-2 other people in the party for extra killing. "Party with" means that other class and you are always together for each other's skill buffs.
Split map with <specific class> -- Very different than "Party with <specific class>". Split map means you go out on your own, killing in your own spot(s). When eachother's skill buffs runs out, just get together and recast.

Poison Breath against ghost pirates and death teddy is strictly for the later 50's (level 57+). You can sure and try to poison at level 51 and such, but you will be KSed out, have lots of misses and will have a terrible maple experience.

Comments: Fire Arrow against ghost pirates and death teddy is strictly for the later 60's (level 67+). You can sure and try to poison at level 61 and such, but you will be KSed out, have lots of misses and will have a terrible maple experience. Also, Fire Arrow will be slow and very tedious at zombies now that the map is nerfed. It will be even more slow and more tedious at grupins and white pangs. In short: This is the hell levels for fire/poison wizards. Hang in there.

Comments: FP and priest parting at grims requires a priest strong enough (probably above level 100) to solo the bottem and middle platform. The FP goes around misting the entire top lap of the map. They meet in the center to rebuff.

In oder to make fast experience in a party, the fire/poison mage must keep the entire map poisoned while the other attacker(s) clean up the black squids to keep the lethal squid constantly spawning. Okay so you also see that sharks during this time are awesome for money and awesome experience. Looks like a win-win situation eh? Don't be fooled. With great rewards, there are great risks as well. Sharks are very dangerous to those who have never poisoned sharks before. Any fire/poison mage dies a good number of times before mastering sharks. Some even say that sharks isn't for everyone and some people may never master sharks.

Also, Red-Nose Pirate Den 2 is only for for FP who have a level 28+ explosion. Its very very slow experience, but FP should be 2-3 hit killing Captains and Krus at this level so its incredibly fun, not to mention decent money.

Apparently the Peak of the Big Nest map can be triple channeled. If you choose to do this, make sure you aren't being greedy and let don't crowd out others when training. 2 channels should be more than enough.

Party with various attackersComments:It may be a little early for most priests to split Grim Phantom watches at this level. Another attacker at Grim Phantom Watches could mean a DK, Crusader, Hermit, White Knight, F/P Mage, or Priest. It doesn't really matter as long as both of you kill fast enough to meet up before holy symbol runs out. If you can't, stick with partying instead of splitting.

Here's the deal with Dreamy Ghost (also known as Himes): Share. Sharing isn't caring but it does cut down on grinding time. The game programmers didn't give Holy Symbol to priests just so priests can go solo crap.

Another attacker at Grim Phantom Watches could mean a DK, Crusader, Hermit, White Knight, F/P Mage, or Priest. It doesn't really matter as long as both of you kill fast enough to meet up before holy symbol runs out.

Here's the deal with Dreamy Ghost (also known as Himes): Share. Sharing isn't caring but it does cut down on grinding time. The game programmers didn't give Holy Symbol to priests just so priests can go solo crap.

What about "Hidden Street: Falling Down" that's located to the left of kerning city with the mass Octopus and Blue mushrooms?

Personally, around level 20+, it's a great way to continuously attack and grind as a magician.

I cant stress it enough and you didnt mention it so I'll ask: Did you ask the thread starter for permission to pull it from over there? As much as guides like these are useful, it should be done with permission. I understand that the original author of this thread is banned on SW but he now posts here so perhaps its good to ask him just out of respect (as I think he probably wont mind).

Okay, here's my data.

Level 17: 2 hit octo, 4-5 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 90int, 12 magic claw. [%]
Level 18: 2 hit octo, 3 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 95int, 15 magic claw. [%]
Level 19: 1 hit octo, 2 hit blue mushroom with 6luk, 100int, 18 magic claw. [%]

All I use is the beginner wand.

Personally, at level 17, it's FREAKING worth it X_x (as a lukless). You might use alot of pots, but if you know how to work the map...you can guarantee being safe almost 82% of the time.

There is 1 absolutely safe spot on the map (bottom right) and you could continuously snipe octos.
There is one spot at the top platform where you can be safe as long as you hit the blue mushroom that roam there. If you hit them, they won't jump up to attack you.
Bottom platform again, if you notice, the blue mushroom do NOT pass a certain point. All you do is stand a little back and snipe away :3. Watch out for any spawning octos.

Either way...you NEVER run out of spawn.
It took like 5 - 10 minutes or something for the top spawn to stop. But then you jump down to the safe platform at the bottom side and boom....you snips like 30 octos for free.

The spawn NEVER stops for you X_x.
Having LOTS of mp pots is a must. Once you pop, the fun don't stop.
HP pots are necessary. I used about 100 red pots within 2 levels. They are mainly needed while moving from the bottom to the top.

This spot deserves the blue %.
If it's "zOMG WTF" for levels 17 - 19, you could imagine at level 20+.

What is listed in this reference isn't actually where the best locations to train are. Of course, all the best known locations are listed, but there are also several alternatives listed for times such as 2x exp when you aren't able to find a map in the best locations.

I just have a suggestion on some places to train during the late 20s and early 30s. Meercats (http://global.hidden-street.net/monsters/mons3.php#meercat) and Kiyos (http://global.hidden-street.net/monsters/mons3.php#kiyo) from the couple of maps north of Ariant seem to be pretty good training. They have pretty good spawn rates and the HP to EXP ratios are very nice. They could be a good alternative to Teddies training in Ludi.

For 40-50 Fire poison, I found Fire arrowing Nightmares in Vanity Room to be decent XP

I highly suggest MP eater here since Nightmares have a TON of MP. (2000MP actually) I spent literally 0 MP pots training there from level 40-48 because MP eater was sufficient.

From my impression of ariant, almost all of the monsters are good at some point between the 2x and 3x level ranges. The problem now is to pick the ones that would be considered the best in the area, mainly because listing all of them will clutter up the thread too much.

um...which vanity room? the haunted house is annoying because with each map name, there are actually 4 different maps, each with varying monsters/spawn etc. as for mp eater, having mp eater or not is more of a build decision rather than a training ground decision. any f/p mage that wishes to have poison in the second job will have to drop mp eater. however, since mp eater has no actual influence on experience rates, it isn't something that is mentioned here.

I'm unsure of which one it is, but there's 4 nightmares in the one I'm talking about.
Max MP eater isn't essential for nightmares. I did fine on 1 mp eater, actually. Since MP eater has an influence on money, it is relevant.

$ -- Easy on your pocket; possibly a good gold mine. Remember: possibly. No promises.

No MP pots spent means Nightmares are a potential money making spot.
With proper teleporting, HP pot use could be minimized too.

Another thing you should probably consider is the fact that mp eater saves you mesos regardless of where you are training. If I were to seriously follow that logic, MP eater would be listed in virtually every high level training ground (and definitely every cleric and priest training ground) because of that fact.

mp eater is pretty much the only reason why clerics never run out of mp when they are heal training anywhere, so as far as the thread is concerned, it isn't something that should be listed to prevent the excessive redundancy.

I'm not entirely sure of the specifics because it was a place suggested to me by several other people to be listed here. My impression is that the training methods of i/l mages and clerics are quite different, which would result in the different level range. I would guess that clerics mob the zlupins together and then kill many at once whereas a higher level i/l wizard is able to kill quickly and not need to mob them. zlupins isn't listed for higher level clerics because it is simply more efficient for them to train elsewhere.

An I/L could probably OHKO Zombie Lupins at that level with Thunderbolt, while a Cleric still takes many hits with Heal to kill a mob. Thus, an I/L could still get good exp there.

This actually reminded me of another thing that is peculiar about heal. It has no mastery, so the only way to get somewhat consistent damage is by attacking many monsters repeatedly over time. taking anywhere between 1 and 3 hits to kill a monster won't ever be good for training because it is simply to inconsistent to be effective. in general, clerics will always mob masses of monsters together in order to maximize their damage.

Nice, nice.

For clerics, you might wanna add B2 and B3 (the jump quest areas). An obvious downside is that you have to jump the quest for every 98 minutes or less of training, but I've measured up to 50%/hour in B3 at level 46 with bad equips (262 total magic).

Edit: Hmm, I lied. I was only getting around 35%/hour when I tried it out just now.
Maybe it was 50% a run, since the time limit on the map is 98 minutes.

That would make it around 25%/hour depending how fast you finish the jump quest... meh

you may want to compare the jump quest maps with whatever other maps have the same monsters. if the jump quest maps yield more experience, then it is worth mentioning. if it tends to be slower, then its not really worth doing the jq for, especially when wraiths/jr wraith maps tend to be empty already.

Russt

Yeah, I'll compare them. The normal Wraith map seemed slow for me, though.

Alright.
Wraiths at Line 1 Area 4 are about 30%/hour for me with my bad-ish equips.
Wraiths at B3 are about 35%/hour for me. Depending on how good you are at JQs though, that could be brought down to 25% or less including the time spent jumping.
Differences
- B3 is a smaller map; less movement required
- Can't teleport in it, and speed/jump bonuses are negated
- Harder to see drops (mostly applies to equips/rarer drops)
- Easier to loot etc drops, since they're mostly on one platform
- Basically 0% chance of running into anyone in B3
- But that's a very small chance in Line 1 Area 4 anyway
- Free ores (for whatever that's worth)
- Less often 5-mobbing

IMO, after comparing, it's only worth it if you can jump the quest reliably in <15 mins.
Btw, I timed myself jumping it, just for measurement purposes:
Stage 1 - about 3 mins
Stage 2 - about 12 mins (I HATE this stage)
Stage 3 - about 5 mins
So ~20 mins total in my case, to get 98 minutes in the B3 area.

The Exp here is simply amazing as the FemaleRabbits give 32 exp and the males give 34 it could quite possible be one of the best training spots at this level if your willing to make the trip to ariant.

around level 23ish you should begin 1 hitting both female and male giving amazing exp per 10 min i was getting around 40%/10 min.
Potion costs go down alot after u begin to 1hit 100% making these maps Cost Freindly and Great EXP

It seems like the maps deserve to be included, but it would help if you could give some comparative rates as well. Ariant has given me a pretty big headache since its level range is so low that people don't even have enough time to compare locations before leveling.

The thing with poison weakness is that poison training is mainly centered around the poison effect killing off the monster while you go poison other monsters. In general, poison weakness doesn't really mean anything.

While it is true that the monsters are fire weak as well as have a decent exp/hp ratio, I find the spawn to be a bit questionable. there is a mix of extras with leaders on the map. the extras have a very nice exp/hp ratio, but the leaders are much higher level and have far worse ratios. My guess is that by the time you can effectively kill the leaders, the extras will be too low leveled for good exp rates. if the extras are good for exp, then the leaders will slow down an f/p magician's training by being too high of a level.

What about the updated Master Chronos map?
um....what about it? o_O

Oh! i forgot about the hideout. :f7:

The hideout has bains, which are somewhat nice for i/l mages. idk how good it is for f/p mages. i doubt that you would be training on bains or in the parlor, where anego spawns. that leaves the parking lot (which is too big to train on in my opinion) and the Finance of Flaming Raccoon, which may be doable using Fire Arrow. Something to note here is that by the time you can train on these, most F/P mages have moved on to using poison to train (around the 7x levels).

This is just what I see from looking at the monster/map data and personal observations on the spawn. If you think that it would be worth trying (or have experience that says that it is actually good) then I'd be happy to add it onto the reference.

since red wyverns were "good" enough to be a training spot all the way to 15x as i blindly suggested many months ago, blizzard at harps might as well be also; it's faster and more money. though anywhere besides newties for an i/l is comes down to how much you like the training place because it's so slow compared to newts.

i did most of my late 13x at harps because newties just are trashed with level 8x people who only uses 2 monsters out of the whole map designed for 4th job training.

I'm a lvl 48 Cleric, and I've found the area past the GPQ area to be pretty good training. I can't stand the Wraith/zLupin maps, so I train here. There's rarely other people, and the map is easy to navigate. I'm currently training on the second map past the gPQ area (Skele and MummyDogs, with the occasional skeleton spawn), and I get 3-5% per speed pill. I haven't had a chance to figure out the %/hr, I usually don't train that long.

For the record, as far as I can tell, much of PF is terrible for Mages. Bishops can smash Elder Wraiths, but aside from Bigfoot for f/ps, the rest is either too weak or Immune/ Resistant to magic. (Take the Guardians, they are the best thing to train on, but they have resistance to everything. I/Ls and F/Ps MAY be able to use Ice/Fire Demon -> Summon, and Bishops can't do so, but they can CERTAINLY leech off of anyone there.)

Ever since i took over this guide, i was aware that himes is a possible place for clerics to train as low as 65. however, the problem with including it in this guide is that unless the player is already well connected/gets extremely lucky, then it would be nearly impossible for a cleric or low level priest to actually be able to train there.

in general, i don't include unusual leeching methods in this guide because the guide is stuff that is recommended for the majority of magicians rather than for those who can somehow manage to get into zakum groups at level 50. it would simply be unreasonable to include bosses as a place to train. (in other words, you don't tell 5x magicians to go train on zakum)

Why not go to wraiths? o_O

Master Chronos is an feasible option for training, but it may be a tad bit slow. Even with the new better map change, it's still not as smooth as you'd probably like as compared to the wraith map.

they should be good, but watch out for bigfoot spawning.

and as for posion, 28 is all you need because you don't actually need to do damage with the attack itself. 28 will give you enough poison percentage and duration for a poisoned monster to go down to 1 hp.

Leprechauns are hot sands exp at level 53 (11% an hour on 1x exp, lol) but i made 900k in 40 minutes.

The bad thing is, sometimes a HH will spawn.

Note i'm an i/l mage and it's 1 lit to break their bag form, then another 4 to kill them.

Also also note, if you get 30 lucky charms, you can get another 100k and 50k exp, so it turns out to be decent exp anyways, or if you're greedy, sell them for like 100k each since they drop barely ever.

and after 40 minutes of training in my map, i got 41 of em.

I'll post the map name later, right now i can't remember what it's called.

squids. if you have a good control of your character, and are pretty gutsy, gobies. if you're even more gusty, then himes. also depending on level, you can split newties. the archer takes the sniping spot. the i/l takes the top right spot where ice strike will be hitting the most things and somewhat safe. the i/l would need to be around 10x. the higher, the better.

Perhaps you can add Hoodoos/Voodoos to the 50-60 range for Clerics.
I started at 54 and mostly everyone I talked to started at 50-52.

It's about 8-10 hit kills but since you can mob all 4 the experience is better than Wraiths.

Monster Carnival. I really don't think any of the Orbis or El Nath monsters are good for 3x, except maybe junior kitties. Monster Carnival is free experience because you don't need potions, and lots of people will invite you just because you're a Cleric.

Whenever you can kill the kitties easily, I'd suggest training on the ones that potentially drop the Flaming Feather. You'll need one for a quest at level 45 (Manji's Ragged Gladius) and if you get an extra one they sell quite fast. Jr. Lioners also drop mithril ore, which is another good money-maker these days due to Horntail runners always needing plates. :f2:

DTs suck. Someone should notify the Training Reference Guide monitor.

Wolf spiders > everything for mid 7x till mid 8x.

In terms of both exp and mesos. Not to mention the slim chances of ilbis.

The above was in response to me asking what people thought about Death Teddies for training these days. Of the three replies, nobody thought they are still a good idea.

They still have a "%" indicator, however, while Birks do not. Why?

Birks: Weak to ice, 32,000 HP, 1420 EXP
DTs: Not ice-weak, 32,000 HP, 1300 EXP

Birks have better EXP:HP ratio and come in mobs just as big as Death Teddies.

Also, I think they are easier to deal with than Wolf Spiders due to both the map layout and the fact that they don't jump. (There's also the glitch with WS that makes you not able to hit them sometimes.)

So do DTs still deserve a better label than Birks or WS?

(I've spent a lot of time there, because often I don't really want to spend the extra time going all the way to NLC, especially at times of day when I might have to fight for a channel.)

EchoFaith
2008-09-20, 09:45 PM
ah yes, how times change. honestly, the time for dts to acknowledge as outdated was probably months ago.

only problem is that all i really do is post what people say. since most of my experience has been long outdated, the training reference is quite reliant on more current input from people who are around those levels.

what i get out of your post is:
1)DTs should not have a blue % sign anymore

what i'm not sure about is:
1)if ws deserve a blue %
2)if birks deserve a blue %

generally, training grounds are added without any labels because not enough information is around to really prove that they are that much better (or worse) than the other options listed. so you'll have to tell me if you think WS or Birks deserve any labels ^^

so...

blue % for ws
blue $ for birks?

rassilon
2008-09-22, 04:48 PM
I think WS might be worthy of a blue % past level 8x. I'll go back to them, I'm sure, but at 76-79 it just seemed so slow trying to kill them, I wasn't getting good exp at all. They also have only 350 MP, so we can't leech much mana from them, and their invulnerability glitch means we (or I, at least) get hit more than we'd like to in certain areas of the map, which means more potions used. They could possibly be worthy of a blue $ because they do tend to drop good mesos and the mythical Ilbi, but I don't think you really make a huge profit there if you don't find stars.

WS have no ranged attack, but their ability to just ignore you is a pain if you land in a mob. Birks do have one, of course, and it's strong but not a 1HKO. If they're frozen, however, not a problem. :) I think this map is better for mixed class training in parties, for example with my Hermit buddy we go through them pretty quickly, and having them frozen really helps her a lot. WS might be better for classes that can split the map, such as two I/L or party with a warrior that can kill them in 1-2 hits.

I should do some information-gathering here. If I grind on each of these for 30 minutes and track EXP and mesos earned, I'll have a better idea than just "how it feels" and know which one is faster/better. I'm level 80 at the moment and I don't have any godly equipment. I'll get back to you with the results in a day or two.

I almost forgot to mention, I should do the same with the Firebrand & Stormbreaker cave in Crimsonwood. I've spent a lot of time there lately; the exp seems good and you basically use zero mana potions because Firebrands have 5000 MP in their first form, 10,000 in the second form, and give a total of 3260 EXP if you kill both forms. Stormbreakers have 5000 MP and give 1650 EXP. This means if you have MP Eater at any level you should be keeping your mana bar full every time you AoE a group of them. Firebrands are weak to ice (duh!) so even though they are level 90 they are easy to take down using Ice Strike.

rassilon
2008-09-26, 10:19 AM
All right, I spent some time measuring EXP and pure meso gain in 30-minute sessions, and here's what I found.

Character info: Level 80, Magic = 517 with Meditation, 28 points in Ice Strike & 3 in Elemental Amplification.

|Exp Gained|Mesos Gained|%Exp/hr|Meso/hr
Birks (Crossroads)|334,872|69,135|19.04|138,270
Harps (Sky Nest II)|326,449|93,370|18.56|186,740
Red Kentaurus (Area of Red Kent.)|392,000|72,125|22.29|144,250
Wolf Spiders (Wolf Spider Cavern)|305,596|148,782|17.37|297,564
Firebrands & Stormbreakers (Cavern of Fear)|406,920|45,948|23.14|91,896

Meso measurements are just from what I picked up, and do not include selling any drops. I have a pet that's equipped for easier looting.

From this, we see that (for me, anyway) hunting Firebrands and Stormbreakers in the Cavern of Fear exceeds all others in terms of EXP per hour. Wolf Spiders are the clear winner for looting mesos. Both have some potentially profitable drops, as well.

The paltry mesos from FB+SB could be offset by the fact that it's very cheap to train there. They all have huge mana levels, so even if MP Eater isn't maxed (mine is) you'll be draining lots of MP from them, basically only needing HP potions. I used two Mana Bulls between getting there and training there for 30 minutes, and 17 pizzas. At any other training spot mentioned here, I was taking enough damage that MP potions had to be used as well.

was written based on that fact. but i find it interesting that you would've only gotten 17% an hour. i didnt think the gap between luk and lukless to be so huge.

i didnt time my time at spiders exactly. from memory, i remember during the 2x exp events i would be able to get one level up in that 2 hours of 2x. thats 0 to 100%.

It's quite possible that you were more familiar with the best way of "working" the spider map; what I have been doing is going to one side, clearing the top "leg" moving toward the center, repeating for the next leg down, then going to the bottom and cleaning out the mob that has formed by then. Next, I repeat for the other side. I'm usually solo, but if partied I would probably have the other person (assuming not an I/L) stay up in the legs, and I'd stick to the bottom with the huge mobs. I haven't spent much time there, and I would totally not be surprised if there's a better way to solo WS. :f2:

As for LUK vs. LUKless, my points are probably screwed up somehow. I think I have 73 base LUK. I can use a Dark Ritual (borrowed) as long as I don't take off my Z-helm, and I'm still wearing my 7x clothing. I haven't added LUK since 70, though, and will probably reset some later depending on what I decide for "end-game" equipment.

Now he found out at 18x that blizzard at gobis is good meso and decent exp. (not as good as harps in terms of exp but better for mesos). I've heard that he got 5 60% overall INT scrolls in 4 hrs of 2x. That is better than the ilbi drop rate. ~worth 100m total in bera + mesos from the fish.

It's an awesome money spot. Pretty fun too. I've tried. High level spots need more variety. I hope you add that :(

If you have cold beam, you could try heading to birks. If not, you'll just have to stick with MP3 or ghost ship for another couple of levels. Once you get to 74/75 I think birks start to be better experience than MP3. I think it mostly depends on how strong you are and whether or not you can find a good party at MP3.

I got max brace at 13 tele and im lvl 44, im still at rotting skeles cause i can 1hit them for 148 exp. While its still good exp..the problem is im still using claw. Its not to bad cause im on galicia so its 120% or so an hour. And I didn't find the poison spots listed to be any good tbh. Guess ill just wait till 50 to do twisted jesters.

Just a heads up to future f/p's

I've seen a couple of crazy clerics training there at lvl 48 with some misses. But I would recommend between lvl 50 and 55. :f6:
