View Full Version : GM's, Talk Like a Pirate day = Pirates?

As some of you have seen already, a GM is bera? (could be broa not sure) said that national talk like a pirate day is sept. 19th. i KNOW this is a real holiday and there is a link for it somewhere, but why would a GM talk about it? I am not taking sides or anything but some people think that pirates are coming out on the 19th.
if you want an SS just go to basil or sleepy, they each have a thread on it already

I dont know, my bet is that Pirates won't come. It's known that ''Talk Like A Pirate''-day is on the 19th of September.
Don't think it's Broa, didn't a GM say they will be no more events here?

As I said in the other topic on this subject:
Not happening. We need to get Magatia before we can get Pirates, and even if Nexon has been improving lately (despite those pineappleing bans), they aren't going to give us Magatia and Pirates in the same patch.

It's like the "Ice Golem card = Coke Town" argument. We will get both (if Coke agrees), but not soon.

February 2nd - Groundhog Day.
osht, new groundhog boss coming out!!
I think making a connection like that is a bit too much of a stretch rather than assuming a GM is alluding to anything. In fact, I don't think a GM has ever talked about new content being released. 4th job came out all of a sudden and no GM hinted that it'd come on the release day; only the official site did.
As I said in the other topic on this subject:
Not true.

This reminds me of how a GM (or someone similar) said something along the lines of "time for me to take a showa!" and everyone got all excited about Shouwa coming to gMS, but then it didn't come for months and months.. There's a possible vague connection, but it most likely means nothing.

Not true.
Yes, because stating 'not true' means that you're right. Care to back it up with any facts?
And if anybody's curious, IIRC, at least one Pirate skill comes from Magatia, which means that it needs to come first for obvious reasons.

Both TaiwanMS and ChinaMS got Pirates before Magatia.

Look it up for yourself. I just recall hearing about it and it's something to think about; unlike your always-helpful "not true".
Both TaiwanMS and ChinaMS got Pirates before Magatia.
I stand corrected. Out of curiosity, did they have all of their skills and fourth jobs, then?

Someone was probably talking like a pirate or people were spazzing about them and they said that. Big woop. GMs have *MAJOR SHOCK* personalities too. Looks like they get to show em more since they're holding more events and being more existing to us nowadays. :s
I don't think anything will happen, except Nexon might release something announcing that pirates are coming on x day. I doubt that though as well.
Lol "Pirates come out the 19th!" I think that's reading too much into things.

Mid to late September isn't out of line with when other versions are getting Pirates. I'm actually surprised MSEA hasn't had one of their typical magazine interviews telling everyone that MSEA is getting this new class very soon. Maybe we'll actually have a turn to get the more desired content first.
And Nexon has in the past proven they're interested in releasing content on tangentially relevant days. Showa was originally scheduled to come out on a day called "Showa Day".
We still need yet to here an official announcement on Pirates though. I'll be optimistic in the meantime.

Doesn't nexon have some sort of pattern they follow anyway? They USUALLY do patches 1 month after the previous one (unless it was some awkward bug fixing). So having a patch in the middle of the month won't be too Nexon like. I still stick with my decision that Pirates are coming in the holiday months, if anything in January like 4th job. It makes sense to have the pirates come out on your talk like a pirate day, but it just doesn't seem likely.
But we may never know... You never can tell with Nexon. One day it's play as normal, then BAM we have some new stuff (or lol u gets glitch =P).

I'm partially skeptical about it coming out on the 19th. What i'm expecting though is them announcing their release on the 19th, not the actual patch.
Regardless, they're going to need tespia for this if they aren't stupid. As it stands, it's WAY too late for tespia to come out.

I know I said this a bunch at Sleepywood, but some of you here apparently missed it.
So I'm going to say it again, here.
TESTING CLIENT/SERVER IS/WAS A PUBLIC RELATIONS MOVE, NOT A MEANS TO HAVE BETTER QUALITY CONTROL.
They didn't put the test server up so that they can fix bugs that were reported. Hell, I can tell you that there were hundreds, potentially thousands of unique bugs/glitches/typos identified, yet I can say with confidence that one could count the amount of fixes they made on one hand. Even after the patch data goes live in the official server, they still only fixed the bigger bugs, leaving some other pumpernickelty ones, particularly ones which have been known to exist for ages.
So then, why would they have players test content if not so that they could fix bugs? Because having a contest to play content early under the guise of beta testing gears up people and builds interest in otherwise uninteresting material. To be blunt, most people didn't even care about bug fixing, and this is particularly obvious when you take notice of how many people care that bugs reported during testing phase WERE NOT FIXED WHEN IT WENT LIVE IN OFFICIAL. But they just wanted people interested. Giving an exclusive contest to let players test content early, with a promise that they'll fix reported bugs... that's a big morale boost. I gotta tell you, I was hyped when this pumpernickel happened because I thought for once we'd actually be able to get new pumpernickel without it being riddled with bugs, and I actually figured with the fewer amounts of reports (compared to the flooding torrent they get from the thousands of regular players in the official version), they'd actually be able to identify and correct longstanding problems.
So again, tespia is for public relations, not for testing. New content being released directly onto the official version is not any more detrimental to the overall health of the game than if it had languished for a week on a beta world. Even if the new content is riddled with bugs, those bugs would still be present when the content hits official, and the bugs would probably only be fixed in the next official content patch after that if the bugs are particularly game breaking.
As a specific point of reference in regards to Pirates, this is new, massive content, and regardless of what you think, they may well go with the "omg new pumpernickel big surprise no one gets to test it" like they did with the Masteria expansion we all recently enjoyed. After all, like has been conjectured more than a few times, we could be potentially the first version with English Pirates, and that is a much bigger deal than feeding Korean quest dialogs through Google Translate and slapping it in the new quests for Ariant.

No one enjoyed the big foot exploits and bannings which were CLEARLY PART OF A MAJOR GLITCHED THAT NEXON MISSED WHEN TESTING FOR CONTENT THEMSELVES.

Isn't this like your....fourth time saying this?
Well, Nexon did fix the disconnecting bug during third term, but other than that, the test server is probably to get everyone hyped up, like you said.
They'd probably threw in the MaplePoints to think they're actually fixing the glitches, lol.
I also notice one thing. They have no/little time to fix the glitches.
Week of testing starts.
Week of testing ends.
Patch begins one minute later after week of testing ends.
Unless you count the time the server is down, Nexon could barely fix the glitches.

Totally agreed.
I noticed in the several Tespia rounds that NEXON never or almost never fixed the reported bugs, just the major ones.
Yeah, probably what you're saying is right: Tespia is only for public relations.
I'm wondering when the next Tespia round will be..
Look, they didn't let us test Masteria content because it was the first time ever MapleStory got that content. But maybe with Pirates, they will let us test the patch..
I doubt it, but who knows.. usually the patch comes after 3 weeks of Server Checks / after 1 month from the last patch, doesn't it?
And Tespia submissions are opened one week before the patch. Then they open Tespia and close it the day of the GMS patch. Now, shouldn't this week be the new patch? If yes, then we won't have Tespia again.
It's not sure they will do a patch, tho. NEXON doesn't always make patches after 1 month. Sometimes they delay them, like they did with the Crimsonwood Keep's one. They did like 4-5 Server Maintenances before the patch, when they usually do 3 (if I'm not wrong).

Yeah, it's probably when they'll make the official announcement or something, not the actual release. But it has to be something about pirates. As humorous as GM's are, I doubt they'd randomly mention this. =_= Knowing Nexon, they'd rather build up hype than try and surprise us. Just look at the countdowns and whatnot in other versions.
