What's the minimum to not lag in Horntail?
Today, I tried going, and dced within the first preliminary head. The screen froze for like 5 minutes as I tried desperately to get on to the rope.
I have 1.4 GB of RAM. :f4:

ram seems fine, I went with a gig and lived pretty much lag-free.
what's your processor speed, internet speed, and graphics card size?

IDK how to check processor speed...
My internet speed is 100 Mbps
Um...
when I click System Properties:
System:
Microsoft windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Computer:
AMD Semprom (tm) 2400+
1.66 GHz, 1.43 GB of RAM

Processor is quite crappy, which is the most likely cause of disconnect. Where did you check your internet speed?Windows shows network speed (ie ethernet or wireless and is generally 100 Mbps, but your internet is not).

What's wrong with my processor? What would a good processor be?

Do this:
http://www.speedtest.net/
and then tell us your i-net speed. What is says up there is network speed, not i-net.

^ is right, sorry.
Since you're using XP... go to Start>Run>enter 'dxdiag'
Go to the "Display" tab and tell us what "Approx. Total Memory" says (graphics card size)
Your processor shouldn't be the issue, I have a 1.8 (and am the one who posted earlier about a gig of ram).

I don't know. I don't want to download that though cuz I tried and it took an effing long time. I'm going to assume that your link is malicious. Any other ways to determine internet speed?
BTW, after downloading that, then uninstalling it, I noticed mscorsvw.exe running. Someone please explain to me what this is, and why it's there. I tried googling it, but everything says it's a natural process and to wait it out. However, if it is, I have never seen it before in my life.
This better not be a virus. :f7:
That speedtest link is fine, Harrison, I do it all the time.
Your CPU is better than mine, your RAM is a little worse though, but I don't think it's so much worse to cause you to lag like you did. o_o Weird.

What did you need to download? Just click on the golden pyramid when they come up. Easy. Other members can affirm that that link is perfectly fine, another one did actually.
Just reading through this thread has assured me that I can never Horntail on this computer. :f5:

What the pineapple did you download? :f6: Speedtest.net uses a flash application to send and receive a small amount of data to your computer, measuring the time it took.
No one has mentioned the amount of memory his graphics card has (64 MB). My XP desktop also has 64 MB and has bad graphics lag if I've had Maple open for a while (over an hour?) and I minimize Maple. (I have been able to Zak on it, though). My Vista laptop has 880 MB of graphics memory, and it has little problem with Maple. (I've left FM shop open overnight and have been able to quickly minimize Maple in the morning.) I think this is most likely the problem.
I have had issues with my graphics card failing, but that's related to the series of laptop I have. :f3:

Yeah. the 64 MB is, frankly, a piece of shit <_< I'm surprised you can zak on it without major lag issues. If you ever update the comp you have with intentions for Maple or heavy-graphics games, do that first. A 128 gave me a bit of lag, my 512/128 dual monitors combo now is virtually lagfree.

I clicked the green button (Free Scan), and it brought me to this page:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/campaigns/adv/sp/Speedtest/leader/
Clicking free performance scan brings up a popup that tells me to download speedupmypc.exe
I saved that to my desktop and attempted to download it, and it basically screwed up my computer.

LoL. You were there that day... if my RAM was better than yours, why did I lag like crazy shyt? :f4:

Your internet is better than mine. Mine is only 1.5mbps down and 256kbps up. Probably, your only problem is your lack of a fast processor. Good processors are 3.0ghz and higher.

I doubt it's the processor <_< think you guys are ignoring the graphics card.

have you tried to run again? maybe that very first run was just an unlucky run and caused you to dc for whatever reason; because everyone already said that your processor, internet speed, and memory is enough. you can also try doing the basic boss procedure of restarting, close all unnecessary programs, and turn down picture quality to lowest.

That was my first run ever.
I had all programs off including explorer.exe
Nothing except the following:
alg.exe
csrss.exe
ctfmon.exe
lsass.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
svchost.exe (x4)
System
System Idle Process
wdfmgr.exe
winlogon.exe
Basically, only the essential programs that I can't stop.
I had my quality turned down to the LOWEST. I had my sound, bgm, HP/MP pot warnings, and monster HP on, but I doubt that's the problem.
And they said my processor speed wasn't enough... although I don't know anymore. >.>

How do you check what kind of graphics card you have?

We already know what type of Graphics Card you're using. You're using a lame little SiS Chip which is basically integrated graphics. In other words, your graphics card stinks.
I'd invest in a decent Graphics Card for a start. It'll cost you around $70 for a decent one, and remember that Maplestory isn't the only thing you're getting the Graphics Card for. With a good Graphics Card, you'll be able to play a lot of games better, so you'll be ready whenever you decide to quit Maple.
I just searched Newegg, and found this little jewel (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130378). It's probably the best graphics card you can get without spending a lot of money. You'll even be able to get DirectX 10 on that. And 512MB memory? Sign me up for that.
Oh, and I have a question for you. Are you able to handle the lag in the Channel 1 Free Market?

Oh, and I have a question for you. Are you able to handle the lag in the Channel 1 Free Market?
Yes. I can handle everything except for Zakum (I get lag spikes, but nothing too serious). And obviously, I can't handle Horntail.
BTW, I can't get a graphics card that is worth that much. I'm still a kid with no allowance. My only option for making money is to save the $3 that my parents give me every day for lunch.
So the graphics card and the processors the only problem?

I think the graphics card is more to blame than the processor.
About what you downloaded, would it be possible for you to do a System Restore to before you downloaded it? That may help get rid that weird process. (I think the liutilities.com website may have been an ad. :f6:)

Then I'd lose everything I did from yesterday to today.
The only weird process is mscorsvw.exe
Someone with experience please tell me how to stop it from running. Thanks.

It's nothing to worry about (the process, that is). I'm 99% sure it's your graphics card if you lag at Zak and HT, the two biggest graphics-related issues in maple. CH1 FME is a processor/internet thing, I think, because it's retrieving all the text boxes/char names/movement.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127241 <-might be a better buy, it's only thirty bucks but it's a lot more than what you've got, not quite the above link though. If your parents won't lend you thirty bucks, you're just gonna have to stop HT/Zak for a bit.
And by lag spikes, is it the kind of lag where you can move around but can't see anyone else moving/anyone else doing damage or is the kind of lag where your screen freezes? The former is usually internet issues, the latter is processor/graphics card.

Ooo, 30 bucks is within my wallet. xD
Thanks!
And it's the latter. The screen freezes for a few seconds, and then all of a sudden, it either refreshes, or it starts showing players attacking in super fast speed and then sinks back into the original speed.
