Even though I am not carribean and don't listen to that much carribean music, I think my favorite artist at the moment is La Lupe.
La Lupe was a cuban exile, she is such a tragic figure, heart break, cocaine addiction, and religious prosecution. Its sad how she was destroyed, but her music is amazing. Such passion and sexuality for such a conservative society. I am watching some of the videos of her from the mid 60s and early 70s, I just had to share these two.

Even thogh I am hispanic and understand most of the lyrics, her accent is heavy and she uses a lot of her local slang, but the message and feeling gets through.
