I think that if I take the time to go out and vote, I'll be going for Mr. Barr.
But realistically, I might better just go for McCain. I just don't like socialism, and McCain in there is the best shot of it not getting through. Voting for Barr would be a waste of my time; there's no way his 10% or less popular vote will even net him a single electoral college vote, and I gotta say, 0 is a lot less than 270.

I think that if I take the time to go out and vote, I'll be going for Mr. Barr.
Bob Barr is a stand-in candidate, and, IMHO, does not have strong libertarian leanings. I'd avoid him.
I'm waiting for the debates to finalize my opinion, but I do prefer McCain at the moment.

And what do you mean "stand-in"?
Thunda
2008-08-29, 04:35 AM
Meaning, he's the candidate because they have no one better to run. Much like Alan Keyes in the 2004 Senate race for the seat that Obama currently holds.

"Because they have no one better to run" sounds like the reason every candidate ever is in the position they are.

I meant it in a different way, so I'll rephrase.
The only reason he's the candidate is because they have no one better to run, even though he's not a good representative of the party itself.

The world is living longer because of better diet, health, ect.
McCain was born in the 30s, long before most of those advancements existed. Only thing that will make him live longer is newer medicine. :]

I'm pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro-universal health care, pro-pull out of Iraq, pro-fix this economy, and for once the democrats actually have a candiate that makes sense (unlike Kerry in '04, or even Gore in '00 to some extent). I don't buy into all the "McCain is just Bush all over again", I'm well aware of the differences.
I just think that having a very educated and well-spoken president is more important then a war hero. We need to be making peace now, not war. Obama really looks like a near-perfect president in my eyes, not to mention I hardly agree with anything McCain offers (short of homeland sequrity). So I might have to give up marksmenship (.22) until I'm 21, its worth it to have a house and a job.

Reasons not to vote for McCain: 1. Old age - might not last long?
2. Tax cuts to big (oil) companies.
3. Extended war in Iraq/Middle East.
4. Always jumps the gun and thinks war is the answer.
5. Voted for middle class tax raises.
Many etc.
Reasons to: 1. Has a stable voting record.
2. Wants to throw aliens out of the country.
3. ...?
I dunno, if you're a war mongreling high-class citizen, why not!?
Sometimes people confuse me, why WOULDN'T you be pro-middle class, pro-peace, pro-universal health care, and pro-gay marriage? All of that either helps or is -neutral- towards the middle class. That only applies to just about EVERYONE here.

Anyone high in society can get medical help if needed. Besides, his VP would be cool as the real president anyway.
2. Tax cuts to big (oil) companies.
Good, them having less money means they charge less.
3. Extended war in Iraq/Middle East.
No. Obama wanted it over March 08. He wants it over March 09. The amount of productivity in the past 5 months has pretty much DOUBLED the amount in the past 4-5 years.
4. Always jumps the gun and thinks war is the answer.

5. Voted for middle class tax raises.
Obama voted for ALL tax cuts. Middle > Middle + upper + lower.

Since when are people in government supposed to directly change their view due to one person who's close to them? That's called bias.

If he did support it, even if he legitimately wanted it (for reasons other then his own children) he would get bashed by everybody for playing favorites and people would hate his administration more.
Katie
2008-08-29, 08:42 PM
I understand what you are saying. It's just kind of messed up that you can't support gay marriage because your party doesn't want it or people with think you are biased or whatnot.
Considering a large amount of people in the '04 elections voted for Bush because of his stance on "moral issues" (aka, his gay bashing), it's not surprising Bush/Cheney didn't support gays despite the sexuality of Cheney's daughter.
Just my five cents. Personally, I don't care who wins the American election, because, while the winner will affect global economies in some way, I don't give a rat's ass about the economy, so it doesn't affect me down in New Zealand. Plus, I have New Zealand's own general election to consider.

ok you guys talking about socialism know nothing about obamas health care plan
he plans to make health care cheaper, not make it universal.
universal health care has two draw backs.
1. its socialism, down right and simple, and 2. huge tax increases.
what most people dont know is that McCains tax plan ends up giving us a deficit worse than Obamas plan,50% worse. Obama and McCain both want tax cuts, but Obama only wants it for people making under $250k, roughly 96% of the population, where as McCain wants 100% of the population given tax cuts, and, amongst the people, corporations will get tax cuts as well.
Thus leading to our economy even worse because our government wont have even more money.
1. Old age - might not last long?
Anyone high in society can get medical help if needed. Besides, his VP would be cool as the real president anyway.
2. Tax cuts to big (oil) companies.

Sorry but you're a fool.
1. His VP choice is horrible, sorry, she just is. Republicans say Obama has no experience, yet their VP is a 2 year govenor of alaska
2. Supply and Demand, just because the high ranking officers of oil companies have more money in their pockets, doesnt mean our gas gets cheaper, thats a fucking no brainer
3. Obama never wanted to invade iraq to BEGIN with. Although I believe we should stay in Iraq until its stabalized, us staying there is costing us billions per month and has ruined our economy, Iraq needs to get on the ball.
4. No real answer for this one.
5. BOTH JOHN MCCAIN AND BARACK OBAMA WANT TO "RENEW" THE BUSH TAX CUTS, THE ONLY DIFFERENCES IS IN THE % OF THE BREAK AND THE FACT OBAMA'S PLAN ONLY REACHES PEOPLE WHO MAKE $250,000 A YEAR OR LESS, WHICH IS 96% OF THE POPULATION, WHERE AS MCCAIN WANTS IT FOR EVERYONE, INCLUDING COMPANIES THAT HAVE SENT JOBS OVERSEAS!!

Damn. That sounded so damn smart.
Schrodinger, you really do need to calm down. Expecting everyone to such a high degree of intellectual capacity for every single post on a Maplestory forum is simply unreasonable. Please try to stay on topic and try not to flame others for what you think is dumb logic even if the logic may be dumb. Learn to accept that others thoughts and opinions are different from yours, and please stay calm.

1. Medical help doesn't make you invincible. That's how people die from heart attacks everyday. Also, his VP is even more ridiculous than him. Talk about close-minded.
2. The price has more to do with where we get our oil, not how much the gov't charges them in taxes. Also, if we were using alternative fuel sources nobody should be bitching - it's all cheaper than gas.
3. What are you talking about? His platform has been opposition since Bush wanted to go in, go read the platform >_>; McCain has promised to stay in Iraq, Obama to withdraw. Either way, the entirety of troops can't be fully withdrawn until 2013.
4. Uh, yes, like Iraq.
5. Exactly. But to pay for the things we need, we eliminate bullshit programs from the federal budget to cover the tax cuts. Who likes to pay taxes anyway?

You've already admitted you're uninformed about the election, and it clearly shows in most, if not all, of your political statements. What I don't understand is why you attempt to start and participate in intellectual discussions when you've already demonstrated that they are out of your league. My parents arent planning to turn 70. Both of their life insurance policies expire when they are 65, which gives them enough time to pay off both our houses and croak (so to speak), the rest is left to me and my siblings. They are both doctors & their jobs cover any insurance they have. Our family believes in "what's yours is yours, and what's mine is mine" :l

So they are killing themselves at 65? And because you are "rich" that makes you better than everyone else? I don't think so. If that's how you are growing up, you have ALOT to learn about this world. It's not all about rainbows and ponies. And trust me, when they stop working, the insurance goes away. But wait, they are rich and vote for McCain so they get whatever they want.
How about you be poor for a bit and see what it's like. It's not very fun. But wait, you get whatever you want. Why help the poor out a little. I mean pineapple, they are nothing but white trash hillbillies living on welfare right?
You know what's not fair? Is how because you are rich you get what you want. You know what sucks is when I have 2 handicapped children and can't get them what they need because I don't make enough or I'm not in the "correct tax bracket" or I'm not a doctor making a million fucking dollars. lol. I'm sorry. But this is a touchy subject for me. I come from a very wealthy family and both of my parents were let go of their 6 figure salary jobs and make ALOT less. I have alot going on with my children and that prevents me from supplying the things they need to lead a happy healthy life.

what obama says is true, mccain is more of the same. even if i'm living in an island that more than half of the people i meet online do not know, bush's idiotic antics still affect the whole world.
my favorite George W. Bush quote: "is our children learning?"
My favorite Obama qoute: ""... .. The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person who, uh, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know there's a reaction that's been been bred into our experiences that don't go away and that sometimes come out in the wrong way and that's just the nature of race in our society."
Basically called all white people racist.

but it also helps those lazy low lifes who think they can get away with living totally off of what the government offers them and not do any work for themselves (WHICH I DONT SUPPORT AT ALL)
Some careers take time, time to study and prepare for. And in that time, those that need help are lazy low lifes?
Success comes in due time.

I'm not even gonna touch this. This was just.... ridiculous. I don't think you honestly understand ANYTHING about this subject. So, I guess I am a lazy low life because I get gov't help for my "Mentally retarded" kids. Awesome.
Think whatever you want maybe you should read my post with less fury because no where in it did I call out you and your family. I've nothing against you or your kids and god bless them?
Im out since this thread is just about how being a democrat is good and being a republican is selfish and bad.

Its not about "calling out my family" It's about everyone else in this country that are having problems and because they are poor and need a little bit of help they get screwed over. Not everyone is perfect. Not everyone can go to college, not everyone is rich. Some people just need help and that's ok. I don't think people should "shun" those that can't afford their BMWs or their 8 year degrees or their penthouses in Manhattan.

How about lowering Middle and under class taxes, and raising upper class's past what Bush lowered.
People save up for a decade to buy a house while corrupt politicians have over five, and plenty to spare. Tax the rich, feed the poor. <_<
Now how is this fair to the hard working upper class citizen, who worked their butt off, whether in high school, college, working up the corporate ladder, or putting in the countless hours for their own company to succeed, or all of them.
Are we all aware of how taxes work? Well there are things called deductibles, which can be a base of 8.5k if your single or you can total up each deductible expense (house interest, kids, marriage, job related, etc). All lower-class pay hardly anything after all the deductions. Middle-class pay slightly more depending on what side of the spectrum, we'll say 20%. And then Upper-class, who in many cases are forced to pay an 'alternative minimum tax'. Which is they arent allowed any deductions, even if they have accumulated over 100k deductions per say. They will pay 50% of their incomes to the government, after working the 100+ hr weeks to get where they are.
You know what sucks is when I have 2 handicapped children and can't get them what they need because I don't make enough or I'm not in the "correct tax bracket" or I'm not a doctor making a million pineappleing dollars. Oh wait, that won't happen because you don't live in the real world.
Unfortunately your choices landed you there, and you get to live with the uneasiness of having 2 children you cant or can barely support. Her parents went through 8 yrs of college a piece to get where they are, and then at least 3 yrs of residency, making hardly anything. And you were having reckless sex, popping out babies, there is no one to blame but you.

Tax the rich, who make enough money per person to run several orphanages, or tax the people who are just getting by.
Doesn't matter if they 'earned' it, just keeping it for the sake of keeping it is selfish.

Explain to me how it's her fault she has handicapped children?
She never complained about the children, but how they were handicapped. (unless I misread)

First of all you don't know me son. So don't go around talking to me like you pineappleing know ANYTHING about me. You don't. So here's an idea. Go get a pineappleing clue catcher and get a grip on the real pineappleing world. I'm not a bitch but now I am. This was inappropriate and uncalled for. I am BUSTING my ass for my children. Don't talk down to me and don't treat me like a piece of pumpernickel. I wasn't having "Reckless sex and popping out babies". BTW. I can fucking support them. But if you knew anything about life, some things people just can't afford.
Fiel/Isaac give me my warnings now please.

Thats pretty funny, actually. Anyone can go to college. There is countless government grants if your from a lower than average family income, or you can move out yourself work your entry level job and get those grants. If grants dont cover it all, take out a loan, and worry about the majority of it later. I work full-time, part-time, and go to college full-time. Thats a good 100+ hrs a week (for the 3mnths college is in session, then just about 60 hrs). Your mistake was getting knocked-up before planning for all repercussions and obviously not working hard enough. So before you say all 'rich people' have it easy, consider the hard work that goes into maintaining such success.

FYI, she is at a near to her degree. So you shouldn't be blabbing out pumpernickel about studying and having things hard, because I can darn well tell you she works her ass off.

They dont have the chance to give money to charity etc, b/c its taken by the government to help those that can help themselves. Welfare cases, theres no reason unless you are mentally disadvantaged that you cant make enough to survive on your own.
Umm... well she chose to have the unprotected sex that made those two children.

Hey guess what. I've been going to college for years for Nursing, I have 2 jobs. You don't know pumpernickel about my kids so shut up about me "getting knocked up". You're an asshole. I bust my ass for my kids and my family. So it's my fault because my PLANNED children have handicaps? Real intelligent.
MY CHILDREN WERE FUCKING PLANNED. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?

Look, okay.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Handicapped children need a lot of money (a wheelchair for my niece cost £1000, because she's young), Katie has 2 handicapped children, so that's a lot of money and time.
You have no fucking idea how much of an arsehole you're being.
'getting knocked-up before planning for all repercussions'. wtf. srsly, wtf. Who thinks they're going to get a handicapped child, nevermind 2?
When my niece was diagnosed handicapped, it ruined my family. We were all sick from fear about what was happening, and we didn't know what to do. My brother + his girlfriend are going through rough patches because their daughter takes up a lot of their money and time.
They had another baby, so she can look after her sister when they get older.
Not everyone has the willpower to "work" 100+ hours a week, like you. Not everyone has the fucking time with 2 handicapped children.
arsehole.
No matter how correct you think you are, Stevens, it goes to say that what you're doing is uncalled for. Hindsight is always 20/20, but you don't need to remind her of that. She's venting about the current situation that she's in and she wants the greener grass. There's nothing wrong with that. Everyone wants greener grass.
Your argument here is not going to help her but just piss her off. This is the definition of trolling, I'm sure you understand. Either accept the current situation that she's in and offer your condolences or leave the topic. Telling her how much of a screwup her life is doesn't help anyone because she already knows her life isn't so great.

So you're basically saying that the people doing poorly in school and working fast-food jobs are more deserving of money than those going to college for 4+ years and working triple digit work weeks? The poor are able to get money, but if they choose not to, they shouldn't be rewarded for it. What's the point of spending so much time improving the economy and society by working so much if the majority of the money will just go towards those sitting at home, choosing everyday other priorities?
Wow, don't you dare talk to her like that. That is completely uncalled for.
How is that uncalled for? She's saying that the poor deserve more money solely because she is biased because of the position she is in. She's blaming the government for her poor decisions. People work their asses off on their jobs and then you have thirty year old women living in their parents' house, spending the majority of her time on a MapleStory forum, rather than caring for her kids herself or getting a job. It's sick. She has no one to blame but herself.

Dude, get a grip. Stop talking pumpernickel about her having children. It's none of your business, get your nose out of people's lives and grow up.
How unfortunate, you chose to go to school but still didn't learn manners. What a pity.
Edit: Above poster, holy shit. Get the pinapple out of her life and stop making judgements. Why are you on a MapleStory forum then? Go study. Hypocrite.
iiMarik, please try to remain civil about this. Don't jump on his case. Let him be.
